Life and workJan Matejko was born in Krakow in a large family. From an early age

he showed extraordinary artistic talent. He got a scholarship and

studied in Munich. In 1862 he painted one of the greatest painting,

"Stanczyk". Great success came at the age of 26 when he painted

”Kazania Skargi." The money from the exhibition, he gave an

orphanage. For the image "Rejtan" he received the Gold Medal, and

afterpainting the ”Unia Lubelska", he got Legion of Honour in Paris.

He was an honorary member of the Academy of Paris, Berlin,

Vienna and the Rafael Academia in Urbino.

Life and workWit Stwoszis an outstanding representative of late Gothic. The creator of the main altar in St. Mary's Church: The open Altar on the moving wings illustrates six Joys of Mary, from the Annunciation to Pentecost.Wit Stwosz carved in a variety of types of stone. His work was highly evaluated and set further directions of the development of art not only for Krakow and Malopolska but for the whole region: Prussia, Czech Republic, Hungary and Transylvania. The late works of the master are ”Pozdrowienie anielskie" (1518), and the project of the altar „Ołtarz Bramberski” and the figure of St. Roch.

Life and workWojciech Horace Kossak became famous as the creator of works of battle,

magnificent panoramas and numerous portraits (the horse). Hunting scenes and

portraits brought him. The most important paintings by Wojciech Kossak are:

"Panorama Racławicka" (work created together with Jan Styka and assisted by,

among others, Theodore Axentowicz and Vladimir Tetmajer, created in 1893-

1894); panorama "Berezyna" (painted in 1894-1896, in collaboration with Julian

Fałat), "the Charge of the gorge Samosierry" (1907), "Olszynka grochowska"

(1931), "Jan Kiliński leading Russian prisoners through the streets of Warsaw"

Life and workJózef Chełmoński - one of the most recognizable Polish painters. In his paintings he depicted the beauty of nature and the people living on its background. He drew inspiration from the life of residents of Polish and Ukrainian villages. He combined the unique ability to observe the landscape with excellent painting workshop. A significant role in his work played a bond between man and nature. A characteristic feature of his works was showing the overall composition of human life with nature as its background.The most important paintings:Wypłata robocizny” (1869), „Odlot żurawi” (1870), „Podczas deszczu” (1873), „Babie lato” (1875), „Noc księżycowa” (1877), „Koncert żab” (1890), „Kuropatwy na śniegu” (1891), „Bociany” (1900), „Dniestr w nocy” (1906), „Żurawie o poranku” (1913).

Life and workPainter and graphic artist, one of the first Impressionists and Symbolists in

Polish art at the turn of the century. Initiator of the color trend in Polish

painting of the 20s and 30s. The wealth of artistic achievements of Józef

Pankiewicz is not limited to the large number of works that he painted, but it

includes many techniques and styles he represented. The most important

Life and work

One of the greatest and most recognized artists in the history of Polish art. Painter

and illustrator, a leading representative of Young Poland known as the father of

Symbolism in Polish painting of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

Co-founder of the Society of Polish Artists "Art." He contributed to the history of

Polish art as an influential teacher. In the years 1896-1900 and 1910-1921 he

taught at the Academy of Fine Arts. In the period 1912-1914 he served as a rector

of the university. In the years 1899-1911 he also taught painting at the A.

Baraniecki Higher Courses for Women. and from 1908 he taught courses in the M.

Niedzielska. Female School of Fine Arts The work of Jacek Malczewski is one of the

most outstanding authors of Polish modern art.
