Socialism

• Everyone owns a portion of the state, but the state still runs on a limited market economy.

• Hugo Chavez and Tony Blair are socialists.

• Most European Countries are Socialist Democracies

Communism• Everyone owns a portion of the state and there is no

class division. There is no wage labor or private property.

• All forms of communism involve a dissolution of the social classes.

• Josef Stalin, Vladimir Lenin, and Mao Zedong are all communists.

Radicalism

• Radical leftists are people who are generally considered to be so liberal that they are ahead of the curve of social norms.

• Examples of radicals in their time: Enlightenment Thinkers, Abolitionists, and Hippies.

Fascism

• An authoritarian style government that focuses on putting the nation-state above ones self.

• Some characteristics include: an emphasis on military service, limited civil rights, and “super” nationalism.

• Hitler and Mussolini were fascists.

Militarists

• An authoritarian government style that focuses compulsory military service, little to no civil rights, and an eagerness for warfare.

• Notable militarists include Sparta, The Roman Empire, And Japan during WWII

Reactionism

• An ideology that espouses the desire to return to a former way of life that is more conservative.

• Reactionists shun social progressivism in all forms.• Notable reactionists include The Ayatollah Khomeini,

The czarists in Soviet Russia, and the Tories after the American Revolution.

• A moderate sits right in the middle of the spectrum borrowing from both sides.

• Most people fall into the moderate category…because it is based on issues

• Notable moderates include John McCain, and Bill Clinton
