Global macro-economic conditions have remained challenging in 2017, and the outlook for 2018 lacks clarity due to questions about wide-ranging topics such as monetary policies, geo-political instability, among others. Global petrochemical industry participants are making plans for the next few years, yet have concerns about:
• expectations that the US Federal Reserve will increase interest rates; • commodity market price volatility; • downward correction in crude oil in spite of the efforts made by OPEC to extend production limit agreements; • turmoil in world financial markets accompanied by deleveraging in China.
The polyamide 6 industry in China has continued to see fast expansion throughout the chain during 2017. With upstream expansion far outpacing downstream growth, what changes will be made to create stability and profitability in the value chain. For example, are there new developments for differentiated nylon filament and staple which could help alleviate the current oversupply of conventional products. Will production of adiponitrile in China increase, and in turn significantly drive the nylon 66 industry?
Demand for polyamide in engineering plastics and films has been growing rapidly, and with the price of polyamide polymers becoming more affordable, will derivative products gain more market share?
