For temperatures above 85°F(30°C), follow ACI hot weather application guidelines toensure a successful installation.

• Provide for expansion and control joints where specified, including the perimeter of the room, columns, supportsand equipment pedestals. Do not bridge expansion andcontrol joints.

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Surface Preparation1.1 All substrates must be structurally sound, stable

and solid.

1.2 Thoroughly clean surface of any substance that couldinterfere with the bond of the installation material, including dirt, paint, tar, asphalt, wax, oil, grease, latexcompounds, sealers, curing compounds, form releaseagents, laitance, loose toppings, foreign substances andadhesive residue.

1.3 Concrete surfaces must be mechanically profiled andprepared by shot-blasting, sandblasting, water-jetting,scarifying, diamond-grinding or other engineer-approvedmethods (reference ICRI CSP 5 standards for acceptableprofile height).

1.4 Substrate hydrostatic pressure conditions and vaportransmission must not exceed 3 lbs. per 1000 sq. ft. per24 hours (1,36 kg per 92,9 m2 per 24 hours). Use acalcium chloride test (reference ASTM F-1869) prior toapplication.

1.5 Use a calcium carbide test to ensure retained moisture ofthe substrate is less than 2.5%.

1.6 Concrete substrate and ambient room temperature mustbe a minimum of 50°F (10°C) must and not exceed 95°F(35°C) prior to application. Temperatures must bemaintained within this range for a minimum of 72 hoursafter the installation of Novoplan 2.

1.7 Fill in deep areas, holes or cracks with appropriateconcrete restoration materials, especially when installingon a second story floor or above where fluid materialcould leak to a floor below (contact MAPEI TechnicalServices for details).

1.8 Always prime prepared surface with a MAPEI primerprior to the application of Novoplan 2.

1.9 Do not apply primer over standing water.

1.10 Allow Ultraprime L or WE primer to dry completely to asemi-transparent film, with no milky-wet spots, prior tothe installation of Novoplan 2.

1.11 Some mechanically prepared substrates may be moreporous than others. For porous concrete, "doubleprime" the surface with Ultraprime L latex primer. Dilutethe first coat: 1 part Ultraprime L to 3 parts potable water, and the second coat: 1 part Ultraprime L to 1 partpotable water. Additional coats may be required overextremely porous concrete (see Technical Data Sheet fordetails).

Porous concrete can also be subject to "out-gassing",the release of entrapped air from concrete. Out-gassingis visually undetectable and could cause potentialproblems with the installation. Wait 48 hours, after thesubstrate has been properly prepared, prior to applyingthe first coat of primer.

If a project does not permit waiting 48 hours, prime withMAPEI’s Planibond EBA epoxy primer and bondingagent. Prime the properly prepared surface at a 20 wet-mil (0,5 mm) thickness. Novoplan 2 must be placed ontothe Planibond EBA while it is tacky to ensure asuccessful installation (see Technical Data Sheet fordetails).

Out-gassing, as a result of a moisture vaportransmission exceeding 3 lbs. per 1000 sq. ft. per 24hours (1,36 kg per 92,9 m2 per 24 hours), must first betreated by installing a suitable moisture reduction barrier.Apply a small test area to ensure compatibility with themoisture reduction barrier before general installation.Once the barrier is cured, apply a single coat ofUltraprime WE prior to the application of Novoplan 2(see Technical Data Sheet for details).

1.12 Novoplan 2 can be used over engineer-approved woodsub-floors including plywood, parquet and tongue-and-groove wood flooring. Sub-floors must be properlyprepared, bonded and free of dirt and dust. Whenapplying MAPEI underlayments to tongue-and-groovewood flooring, mechanically fasten MapelathTM ordiamond mesh on top of the primed surface (meetingrequirements of ASTM C847) before application.

1.13 To install over properly prepared ceramic tile, vinylasbestos tile (VAT), vinyl composition tile (VCT),cement or epoxy terrazzo, and thin layers of old cutbackadhesive residue, surface must be properly prepared, bonded, free of dirt and dust and primed. Prime byapplying a thin coat of Ultraprime WE (see TechnicalData Sheet for details).

1.14 To install over properly prepared steel decking or metal, surface must meet L/360 deflection requirements. Primethe properly prepared surface at a 20 wet-mil (0,5 mm)thickness. Novoplan 2 must be placed onto thePlanibond EBA while it is wet and tacky to ensure asuccessful installation (see Technical Data Sheet fordetails).

2. Mixing2.1 General Mixing

Using a clean mixing container, pour in the requiredamount of cool, clean potable water. If available water isnot cool, chill water to 70°F (21°C). Add Novoplan 2powder while slowly stirring. Mix water and Novoplan 2powder to a mixing ratio of 5 qt. (4,7 L) water per50 lb. (22,68 kg) bag of Novoplan 2. The mixing ratiomust remain consistent. Do not over water material. Toensure a perfect mix and proper flow, test mixedmaterial using the MAPEI Field Flow Test Kit (contactMAPEI Technical Services for Details).

For best results, use a MAPEI Self-Leveling Tool Kit(contact MAPEI Technical Services for details).

2.2 Barrel Mixing

Using the appropriate mixing ratio above, mix using alow-speed mixer (approx. 1200 rpm) with an "Egg-Beater" mixing paddle. Mix to a homogeneous, lump-free consistency, approximately 3 minutes. Do notovermix. Overmixing or moving the mixer up and downduring the mixing process could cause air-entrapment,which could shorten pot life or cause pin holing duringapplication and curing.

2.3 Pump Mixing

Novoplan 2 can be mechanically mixed, using theappropriate mixing ratio above, with a ContinuousMixer and Pump (with a minimum of 140 ft. [42 m] ofhose) or a Batch Mixer and Pump (with a minimum of110 ft. [33 m] of hose). Mixer and pump must be ingood working condition. Periodic cleaning of pumpingequipment is required as per manufacturer’sinstructions. Be sure to pressure test rotor and stator forproper mixing. Use a mesh screen "sock" at the end ofthe hose to catch any foreign material that could enterthe hopper of the mixer. To ensure a perfect mix andproper flow, test mixed material from the end of thehose using the MAPEI Field Flow Test Kit. Apply to asmall test area before general application to ensure asuccessful installation.

3. Application3.1 Before installation, close all doors and windows to

prevent drafts. Protect areas from direct sunlight.

3.2 Make sure concrete substrate and ambient roomtemperature is at least 50°F (10°C) and below 95°F(35°C) prior to application. Temperatures must bemaintained within this range for a minimum of 72 hoursafter the installation of Novoplan 2. In coolerconditions, use indirect auxiliary heaters to maintainambient and substrate temperatures within the requiredrange. For temperatures above 85°F (30°C), follow ACIhot weather application guidelines to ensure asuccessful installation.

3.3 Application of Novoplan 2 over large areas can be madeeasier and more efficient by using conventional piston,rotor-stator or underlayment-type pumps (contactMAPEI Technical Services for recommendations).

3.4 For best results, work as a team to provide a continuousflow of wet material to avoid air entrapment or creatinga cold joint.

3.5 Set the width of the pour at a distance that is ideal formaintaining a wet-edge throughout placement. Quicklypour or pump Novoplan 2 onto the properly preparedand primed surface in a ribbon pattern. If a wet-edgecannot be maintained, reduce the width of the pour.

3.6 Novoplan 2 has an approximate flow time of 15 minutesat 73°F (23°C), is self-leveling and can be applied fromfeatheredge to 1/2" (12 mm) in a single application. Please note that temperature and humidity will affectworking time, flowability and setting time. Applyenough material to adequately cover all high spots.

3.7 Immediately after placing the Novoplan 2, spread thematerial with a MAPEI Gauge Rake. After achieving thedesired depth, smooth surface with a MAPEI Smootherto obtain an even surface. Do not overwork the materialto avoid air entrapment.

3.8 Novoplan 2 hardens and is ready to accept installationof Ceramic tile and natural stone in 24 hours. Floorcoverings such as carpet, vinyl sheet goods, vinyl tile,VCT, homogenous PVC, rubber and engineered woodplank can be installed 2 – 3 days after application.Protect surface from contaminants until final flooringinstallation is complete.
