And what a success it is! Skiers can now put their skis on down in the valley, passing over 5 kilometers of road outside Grenoble! For ideal skiability, the run was enlarged, reprofiled, and remodeled—while keeping the original layout of this legendary run. Feasibility and environmental impact studies were conducted over a period of three years to protect wildlife. But we didn’t stop there! We created a space that promotes pastoralism. Once again, POMA adapted to the environmental stakes and tight schedule in order to provide this winter’s skiers with a modern and efficient lift—proof of the overwhelming enthusiasm of this Alpine resort.”

NEAR FLAGSTAFF, THE ARIZONA SNOWBOWL RESORT IS LOCATED ON THE SAN FRANCISCO PEAKS IN NORTHERN ARIZONA. To provide excellent service to their guests, the resort just installed a superb 6-seater detachable grip chairlift called the Grand Canyon Express. The lift is the longest in North America at 1,800 meters. This major installation was understandably hailed by being placed on the cover of the US trade magazine Ski Area Management.

CHIMELONG SAFARI PARK IS ONE OF THE LARGEST ANIMAL PARKS IN CHINA. ITS 2,000 ACRES OF PRESERVED NATURE WELCOME OVER EIGHT MILLION VISITORS PER YEAR! To provide the public with sumptuous views of the park and to fly over the wild animals in utter silence, POMA met the challenge of installing a state-of-the-art, 8-passenger detachable grip gondola lift, equipped with DirectDrive technology. This massive installation—with three sections and six stations—has safari-themed cabins

decorated with white tigers, zebras and giraffes. THE POMA AIRTRAM, FLYING OVER EAST RIVER TO CONNECT ROOSEVELT ISLAND TO MANHATTAN, HAS BECOME AN ICON OF THE BIG APPLE AND OF URBAN ROPEWAY TRANSPORTATION.“Entirely renovated by POMA in 2009, the AirTram operates 7 days a week and 18 hours a day,” says Armando Cordova, operations manager, with satisfaction, “POMA and their 24-person team live here in New York and provide daily operational and maintenance assistance for our AirTram. And the results are here: the tram’s availability rate is over 99.25%, and more than 3 million passengers enjoy the trip every year!” What better way to show why this type of transportation is the perfect fit for the urban jungle!

PARTNERING WITH THE PERUVIAN COMPANY ICCGSA, POMA JUST SIGNED A 20-YEAR OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE CONTRACT FOR THE MULTIX 8 KUELAP GONDOLA LIFT BUILT LAST YEAR. Open to the public in March 2017, this 8-passenger gondola lift provides access to a pre-Incan site that the Peruvian government would like to develop to attract more tourists. This spectacular lift is 4 kilometers long and offers its passengers great aerial views of the unspoiled nature below. Kuelap chose to recruit and train a local team, and this is the perfect example of POMA’s commitment to and responsibility in assisting our clients in their choices.Michaël Fauche, POMA services director, explains: “Training, assistance, and proximity to our clients are the pillars of our success. It is important to remember that our urban and tourist installations are operated all year round, without a closing period. They are therefore robust, reliable, and designed to withstand extensive solicitations, just like the Kuelap MULTIX 8.”

LOCATED IN THE HEART OF CAIRO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, THE POMA APM MINIMETRO® HAS BEEN A GREAT SUCCESS SINCE ITS INAUGURATION IN APRIL 2012. “The APM MiniMetro® (Automatic People Mover) is an innovative vehicle that moves along an air cushion,” explains Philippe Letourneur, POMA operations manager in Cairo.“Our APM ensures 24/7 operation between the two airport terminals, a parking, and a shopping center. On site, our operations team is comprised of 20 Egyptians who are all very proud of the measured availability rate of 99.75% since the opening in April 2012. Hats off to them!”

AFTER THEY AWARDED POMA THE CONTRACT TO BUILD THE APM MINIMETRO®, MIAMI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT RENEWED THEIR TRUST BY SIGNING A 15-YEAR CONTRACT TO MAINTAIN AND OPERATE THE INSTALLATION.Inaugurated in June 2016, this APM on wheels connects two terminals at the Miami International Airport. Denis Baud-Lavigne, POMA sales manager, tells us about the Michlifen adventure: “POMA was already here when the resort—nicknamed ‘Little Switzerland’—opened in 1957 with our two surface lifts. This year, we replaced those two surface lifts with two SOLIS retraction surface lifts, providing modernity, comfort and performance to the resort.Michlifen is experiencing a renaissance as it has just obtained FIS approval for one of its runs—the golden ticket to organize high level competitions. Conducted with our partner Hebri-Parc, this operation embodies the dedication of the Morrocan Ministry of Youth and Sports’ regional delegation to boost this attractive site.”

WEST OF TBILISI, MESTIA IS A TYPICAL GEORGIAN VILLAGE WITH ITS MANY TOWERS OF ROCK. The Georgian Government wanted to create a new resort from scratch in the Svaneti region, at the foot of Tetnuldi Mountain—a mountain in the Caucasus at an elevation of 4,000 meters. The region is already busy in summer thanks to Uchgulli village, the highest in Europe. Entirely awarded to POMA, the Mestia ski area has already installed two MULTIX bubble chairlifts, 2 UNIFIX chairlifts, and a SOLIS surface lift. Clément Recorbet, POMA project manager explains: “For this new ski area, our clients chose comfort and performance. The Georgian Government wanted the best, most comfortable, and fastest technology available, and got it all with the detachable grip chairlifts operating at 6 m/sec! Currently all of our installations are open, and it is proving to be a success! ”

JUST LIKE THE CARROZ D’ARACHES, THE FRENCH ALPINE RESORT LES SAISIES JUST OPTED FOR THE SILENT AND ECONOMICAL DIRECT DRIVE TECHNOLOGY INSTALLED ON THE NEW MONT BISANNE CHAIRLIFT. This detachable-grip chairlift replaces a POMA lift installed in 1986. The installation is 2,100 meters long and required only 16 towers instead of the 20 towers on the old line—providing minimal physical and visual impact. Boarding is carried out in utmost comfort, with total fluidity thanks to the carpet and dual-color seats.This MULTIX 6 Direct Drive lift is very fast and provides the numerous skiers of the Espace Diamont area with state-of-the-art technology.

EAST OF SOTCHI, THE ARKHYZ RESORT IN THE REPUBLIC OF KARACHAY-CHERKESSIA—KNOWN FOR ITS MINERAL WATERS AND TELESCOPE—IS DEVELOPING A NEW VERY PROMISING SKI AREA. Since 2011, POMA has participated in the development of this resort and its ski area. After several MULTIX gondola lifts and chairlifts, POMA installed a new 6-seater bubble chairlift.This impressive installation is two kilometers long and connects a new area of the resort to the ski area. Installing this chairlift is totally in line with the resort’s ambition to set Arkhyz as one of the most beautiful resorts in the world, rivalling even the most beautiful alpine resorts.

FLYING 380 METERS OVER ARKANSAS RIVER, THE LEGENDARY ROYAL GORGE AREIAL TRAM STRADDLES THE FAMOUS GRANITE CANYON. FROM ITS INAUGURATION IN 1929, THIS LIFT HAS NOT STOPPED WELCOMING TOURISTS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD. In 2013, a forest fire destroyed this historic attraction.The very next year, LPOA was charged with replacing it with a new, more modern and more efficient lift. Olivier Bertolami, POMA operations and maintenance manager, presents this innovative training tool: “UPILOT®, our 3D control simulator is used to train our operations agents and conductors all over the world, before the installation is even built! Based on the principle of interactivity, learners are evaluated as they pass the training modules that are both interactive and fun. We can therefore qualify an operator who already has some knowledge and train someone who has never seen an aerial ropeway.With UPILOT®, everything is possible! CHINA: THE FIRST OF MANY SUCCESSES

The first UPILOT® session took place in China, at the Chimelong Safari Park. The 18 employees of the operations team participated in the MULTIX conductor training session. We were able to see live and in person the unique power of this tool in training people to be operational as soon as the lift is commissioned. The opening day for the Chimelong line coincided with the Chinese New Year festivities!

What happened? The 25,000 park guests traveled safely in an installation that the conductors only tested on the UPILOT® simulator... and everything went smoothly! In the end, staff training did not postpone the opening for even one minute. For our client, this was a total success! We are currently organizing UPILOT® days all over France. Designed for operators, these sessions aim to present the innovative training tool and talk about what it can do for them.”

Fabien Felli, POMA international sales director, has become a member of the POMA Executive Board. Directed by Fabien Felli and his deputy director, Pierre Ract, the export team is growing with the integration of Mehdi Caillis, POMA Africa’s sales representative. Benjamin Fauchier-Delavigne has joined the Hong Kong office as POMA South Asia’s sales manager. Lastly, Gilles Genoux, based in Seoul for over a year now, is managing POMA Korea. Today, POMA employs over 1,000 people, with over 300 working outside of France. Over 73.8% of turnover is generated in exports.

Marc Bottollier, SEMER CEO, presents this innovative service tool: “HyperView is a remote surveillance program for ropeway installations. It was successfully implemented by ETAC in Algeria in 2016. A proud first! Installed in ETAC’s command center in Algiers, HyperView monitors all aerial ropeway systems in Algeria from one remote location! HyperView monitors the installations in real time to ensure rapid operational decisions and precise, targeted, and efficient communication. Another advantage is the Dematerialized Operations Log or DOL. The DOL guides ETAC operators in performing and recording their periodic tests and edits operational reports using the technical data supplied automatically by the ropeway automatic controllers. In 2017, HyperView will be installed in transportation network command centers in Medellin, Columbia and Kuelap, Peru. To finish off, everyone visiting POMA’s booth at INTERALPIN will have the chance to discover our new HyperView service.”
