On Friday 18th May a culmination of a six week literacy project researching a country from the Cornish Diaspora (destinations of Cornish tin miners around the world) came to an end at Heartlands.
Pool Academy’s cluster of Primary schools, St.Johns, Illogan, Pencoys, Portreath, Rosemellin, Roskear and Treloweth, involving over 350 students, took part in the event celebrating the Olympic Torch coming into the Duchy that night by recreating an Olympic Torch relay around Heartlands.
The different aspects of the event involved:-
learning about the seven Olympic/Paralympic values of respect, equality, determination, courage, friendship, excellence.
'On your marks, get set, bake’, challenge where giant cookies were decorated with flags and Olympic emblems.
A celebration of the culture of the different countries in the Cornish diaspora with a musical and dancing extravaganza.
A huge art challenge
Pool is one of 125 schools nationwide chosen to be a Get Set Olympic Network School of-fering Olympic opportunities to its neigh-bouring schools.
Treloweth were Peru, Illogan were Brazil , Pencoys were South Africa, Roskear were India and Uganda , Rosemellin were New Zealand , St. Johns were Australia, Portreath were Ukraine and Tregoweth (Curnow) were Mexico.
All our student leaders were fantastic on the day, in-spiring the primary students through their many challenges.
Robbie Simmons and Henry Eddy have been cycling to school from Tehidy on a tandem.
Art Awards students have a Make-up Artist to visit Make-up Artist Neila Dawes, visited Pool Academy on Monday after school to give the Arts Award and Drama students a stage hair and make-up workshop. It was an amazing experience, not only did the students complete two parts of their Arts Award portfolios, but they had lots of fun.
Pictured are Hannah Mead 9SW, Gabbi Casey 8LP, Chloe George 8LP and Cody Lawry 8LAW with four different make up designs of different characters, as well as the whole of the group who took part in the workshop with
Neila Dawes.
