COMENIUS E.L.O.S: CHRISTMAS RECIPE
♦COOKING ACTIVITY: Capones Navideños.
Students from 5th Grade, Group B have been cooking a typical Christmas sweet from Salamanca. The custom is that on finishing Christmas Eve dinner, we put sugar coated pine nuts, sugar coated almonds, sultanas, dates, figs and walnuts.
Capones (Poor people’s turrón) are made with figs and walnuts. For making this you have to open the figs, shell the walnuts and introduce them into the figs making a ball which you cover with ground sugar.
5th Grade students have organized themselves to prepare this recipe all together. We got together in the school library and there we made our Christmas sweet.

We invite you to make this recipe and try it. It’s delicious!!!
Here is the recipe for cooking ”CAPONES”: INGREDIENTS • Dried figs (2 per person), which are juicy. • Walnuts (2 per person). • Icing sugar.
PREPARATION • A slit at the base of each fig so you can put a finger in and widen the opening enough to introduce a walnut which has previously been opened and cleaned. We place a walnut inside each fig and close it so that it doesn’t move.
• Sprinkle with icing sugar and eaten. In some places these “capones” are called "poor people’s Turron"
