From the desk of

Father Flores

In last week’s article, I wrote about introducing a different way of viewing catechesis and faith formation. One of the clearest ways to see this change will be in our personnel. Last week, Tim Simunds joined our parish staff. Tim and his wife have four young children, they moved to the area about five years ago and have been members of our parish for about two years. Tim and his wife both share a love of the Lord and of the faith which is the bedrock for anyone who would work in a parish. He is passionate about the faith, and he understands the path we are taking in addressing our current catechetical and faith formation needs. Last week I discussed the general outlook of our faith formation program with its goals of addressing the retention of Catholics, parents as the primary educators of their children in the faith, confronting the ‘transactional’ view of many Catholics, and striving to evangelize in order to catechize. Over the past five decades, Catholics have received a lot of catechesis; many Catholics can speak about the details of the faith concerning its foundation, its history and the way that it works today. Many have even received certificates or degrees in Church studies and the courses to receive these have only grown in recent years. Over the years many young people have attended Catholic grade school, high school and even college. There has been much education but seemingly little effect in the lives of many Catholic people. A large number of people who have received years of catechesis or even a formal Catholic education never learned to know Jesus, to engage with Him, and to fall in love with His Church. We see the results today in the issues listed above. The aim of our formation program is to encourage intimate engagement with Our Lord and His bride, the Church. There are currently many frightening and distressing forces in the world from societal unrest, pandemic and economi-cal worries. These, on top of the stresses and brokenness of everyday lives, can add pressure and unhappiness. The only solution is Jesus. Intimately engaging Jesus and His Church is what will do more than bring stability and peace to our individual lives, it will ultimately be what brings resolution to these ills of society. Our role as followers of Christ is to transform the world, and we cannot do this if we do not know the One with whom we follow and fall in love—His channel of grace which is the Church. Please tune in to “H@me with Fr. Flores” on Tuesday evenings following the 6:00pm Holy Rosary accessible through the parish web page, Facebook or YouTube, for more content and information.

In Jesus and Mary, Fr. Flores

HOLY WATER DISPENSER We are unable to offer holy water in the fonts at the entrances of the Church during the pandemic. We now, therefore, have a large holy water dispenser outside the sacristy in the narthex. Feel free to fill a bottle or container to have at home. It is a beautiful sacra-mental to have. (A limited supply of bottles are available).

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION

Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament is weekly, Thursdays from 9am until

6pm. Please visit the parish website to sign up for a one-hour slot. For those with no access to the internet, please contact Paul Orozco at 208-784-8251. All are encouraged to spend time with the Lord in Adoration, whether or not you have signed up; signing up does, however, help us know Our Lord is never left alone.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS We strongly encourage the wearing of face masks for the protection of all in the Church. Remember please, that masks must be worn by everyone at the 8am Mass; and at all Masses in the section closest to the tabernacle. In addition, we are asking that those desiring to receive Holy Communion on the tongue to please go to the end of Father Flores’ line. We thank you for your patience.

† Be Purposeful †

THE NEW EVANGELIZATION By Wes Miller

Finally, an uplifting news story that’s worth sharing! I don’t know about you, but I’m completely worn out with the never-ending news cycle full of bad news that just can’t help but pull you down. But here’s a news story that you won’t want to miss. Admittedly, it does contain a bit of bad news, but it’s completely overshadowed by the greatest news of all time! Here it goes… The good news… God has made you for greatness and to be forever happy with Him in heaven. The bad news… You are not who you were made to be. Sin has wounded you and has created a break in your relation-ship with God, and as a human being, you cannot fix it on your own. The greatest news ever… God loves you so much that He does not want to leave you wounded. God entered into our brokenness by becoming one of us in Jesus Christ. He then suffered and died for our sins and rose from the dead. Jesus Christ restored your relationship with God and offers you new life in Him and in His Church. Above and beyond this, He also offers you eternal life and complete happiness with Him in heaven. Wow! If that's not good news that's worth sharing, then I don't know what is! The funny thing is that it’s 2000 years old and we’ve all probably heard it at least once before. The sad thing is that we’ve forgotten how to share it with others. This could be why Pope St. John Paul II spoke of the need for a New Evangelization. As Catholics, we need to reclaim our story and share it with a world in desperate need of great news. Evangelization should flow naturally out of our love for God and is something we all are called to. It's as simple as sharing the good news of the gospel and the overwhelming joy of being a friend of Jesus Christ. But, as the saying goes, “you cannot give what you do not have.” No matter where we are in our faith journey, our evangelization efforts will fall flat if they are not firmly rooted in our life of prayer. So I encourage you to spend some time in prayer today, meditating and talking to our Lord about the greatest news ever. Allow this reality to penetrate your heart, and when you do, you’ll have no choice but to share it with others!

To Jesus through Mary and St. Joseph, Wes

July 26, 2020 17th Sunday in Ordinary Time “We know that all things work for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose.” - ROMANS 8:28 Do you really trust God? Do you really believe that God will provide all that you need? Stewardship faith is a challenge for everyone at times. Putting our trust in God, in everything we do, in good times and in bad, means that God’s plan for our lives may be quite different than what we planned. When one door closes, another one opens. Trust in God, His plan is always better.

Vine and Branches” is created to highlight the many works of the lay apostolate, ministries and groups associated with Pope St. Pius X. The Catechism of the Catholic Church beautifully portrays our being planted by the “Heavenly Cultivator” with the Church being a cultivated field, the

tillage of God. In this field is Christ as our true vine, who gives life and fruitfulness to His branches—the lay apostolate. This lovely image

helps us remember that It is He “without whom we can do nothing.” (CCC 755)
