2014 Floods Emergency in Serbia
Republic of Serbia has been affected by the catastrophic floods, unprecedented in its history.

Following the session of National Emergency Management HQ (NEMH) Emergency Situation was declared for the whole territory of the Serbia,
on 15 May and lasted until 23 May 2014
40 Municipalities – 9 cities, and – 31 municipalities 1,6 million people were affected Municipality of Obrenovac, near Belgrade, was mostly affected (90% flooded)

Consequences 31,879 people were rescued and evacuated with 180.000 in need of assistance
485 housing units are completely destroyed by the floods and landslides, 16.200 housing damaged
Environment
Economy – mostly affected economic sectors were energy, mining, and agriculture,
Road infrastructure – roads, bridges and railways
Health Sector – 74 health facilities, including health posts and clinics, were affected
Education – total of 35 buildings of educational institutions was severely damaged
Losses mount to 1,5 billion Euros

Republic of Serbia has engaged all available national resources in protection and rescue activities National Emergency Management HQ, coordinated the work of all government ministries and agencies that were involved in the national response to the disaster. Emergency activities - Engaged Forces

International Assistance On 15 of May Government of Serbia has requested international assistance on bilateral level and through the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism • Flood Rescue Teams • Teams with High Capacity Water Pumps • Water Purification Teams Sector for Emergency Management, MoI, was responsible for the coordination and engagement of the international teams in the affected areas Assistance was provided by 14 countries – 22 teams – with 563 members

Helicopters from: Slovenia, Germany, Macedonia, Hungary, Russia, Belarus and the contingent of EULEX
• In cooperation with and coordinated by the Helicopter Unit of the Ministry of Interior and Serbian Army were engaged in rescue operations, delivery of goods (food and water), medicine and transportation of evacuated people, as well as in observation of flooded area by experts from EUCP team, UNDAC team and Serbian experts.

International Assistance Assistance in facilitating and coordination the engagement and stay of international teams in Serbia was provided by EU and UN teams EUCP Team – Team of EU Civil Protection from EU Commission, European Civil Protection Mechanism (17 May 2014)

Donations and humanitarian aid
• As the situation developed further, more humanitarian assistance (food, water, equipment, etc) was provided by Azerbaijan, Belarus, Great Britain, Israel, Japan, Montenegro, Romania, Russian Federation, USA, as well as from the European Commission, OSCE, UN, WFP, and many countries, organizations and other private donors. The received assistance was deployed in the required places accordingly and in cooperation with the Red Cross.

• In coordination with the Ministry of Health, further Water Purification Units (teams) were requested and received from Hungary (billateraly), and Germany were engaged and operational near Belgrade (Obrenovac), and France were engaged Svilajnac and Cuprija.
• German Water purification team were active in Obrenovac till the end of July. These teams stayed the longest due to the situation with water supply. German WP team is staying in Obrenovac until the end of July, while the Hungarian and French team left in the first week of June.
