Plot Line

Exposition-Poppy and Ragweed danced on Bannock Hill

Rising action-While dancing Ragweed gets eaten by Mr.Ocax on Bannock Hill

Rising action-There are too many mice at Grey House so there is not enough food

Climax-The battle between Mr.Ocax and Poppy begins

Falling action-Poppy kills Ocax so now they can move to New House

Falling action-Poppy gets the salt lick for Ereth

Resolution-The mice are free from Ocax and everything is back to normal

Rising action-Poppy can’t get the salt for Ereth because it’s too high

Mr.OcaxMr.Ocax is a mean owl who calls himself the ruler of Dim Wood. He acts tough but he’s really just a scaredy-owl. He eats Poppy’s friend Ragweed.

PoppyPoppy is the main character of the story. She is very brave and mostly smart but sometimes clumsy. She battles Mr.Ocax at the end of the book and wins.

LungwortLungwort is Poppy’s dad. He is very strict and very mean. He is the head mouse at their den.

RagweedRagweed is an adventurous but very careless Golden mouse who gets eaten by Mr.Ocax the owl because of that carelessness.

ErethEreth is a grumpy but helpful porcupine who makes a deal with Poppy which was if he protects her she has to give him salt.

Problem Solution

Mr.Ocax attacked Poppy and Ragweed Poppy kills Mr.Ocax

Poppy can’t get the salt lick for Ereth Ocax smashes into the salt lick, knocking it down

There are to many mice at Grey House They have to move to New House

The theme that I think I identified was don’t always listen to someone. I think this because when Poppy listened to Mr.Ocax she got attacked for a second time. Another example is that when Lungwort and Mr.Ocax both tell Poppy to watch out for porcupines because they’ll eat mice. My personal inference is when I was hiding from people I was playing with. I heard someone tell me come out it’s safe. I knew it was my teammate so I came out. He shot me with his Nerf gun. He had tricked me. Mr.Ocax tricked Poppy just like I had been tricked.

reflections

I thought this book was ok. I didn’t really like the parts with Lungwort because he was so strict. If it was longer I’d probably like it better. I would like to know what happens next to the mice at Gray House. Where do they go? I liked most of the characters but I wish there was more of Ragweed. I would recommend this to older children not younger ones because they may not understand it and it has a lot of violence like when Mr.Ocax died or when Ragweed died. Young children may not get what Ereth’s saying. I think older children would get it more.
