POPULAR GAMES IN INDIA

India is home to a diverse population playing many different sports across the country. Cricket is the most popular sport. Football is a popular sport in same of the Indian states. The country has won eight Olympic gold medals in field of hockey. Kabadi is an indigenous sport is popular in rural India. The other popular being badminton, tennis, table tennis, hockey etc….

FOOTBALLFootball is a family of team sports that involve, to varying degrees, kicking a ball with the foot to score a goal. Sports commonly called ‘football’ in certain places include: association football ;gridiron football ; Australian rules football; rugby football; and Gaelic football. These different variations of football are known as football codes. In 1888, the football league was founded in England, becoming the first of many professional football competitions.

HOCKEYHockey is a family of sports in which two teams play against each other by trying to maneuver a ball or a puck into the opponent’s goal using a hockey stick. In many areas, one sport is generally referred to simply as “hockey”. The belief that hockey was mentioned in a 1363 proclamation by king Edward 3rd of England is based on modern translation of the proclamation, which was originally in Latin and explicitly forbade the games “PilamMnualem, Pedivam, Bacularem, Gallorum Pugnam”.

VOLLEYBALL

Volleyball is a team sport in which two teams of six players are separated by a net. Each team tried to score points by grounding a ball on the other team’s court under organized rules. It has been a part of the official program me of the summer Olympic Games since 1964. A number of techniques have evolved in volleyball, including spiking and blocking as well as passing, setting, and specialized player positions and offensive and defensive structures.

CRICKET

Cricket is a bat- and- ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a cricket field, at the centre of which is a rectangular 22- yard long pitch with a wicket at each end. One team bats, attempting to score as many runs as possible, whilst their opponents field. Each phase of play is called an innings. After either ten batsman have been dismissed or a fixed number of overs have been completed, the innings ends and the two teams then swap roles. The winning team is the one that scores the most runs including any extras gained, during their innings.

CHESS

Chess is a two-player strategy board game played on a chessboard, a checkered gameboard with 64 squares arranged in an eight-by-eight grid. Chess is played by millions of people worldwide, both amateurs and professionls. Chess is believed to have originated in India, some time before the 7th century, being derived from the Indian game of chaturanga. Chaturanga is also the likely ancestors of the eastern strategy games xiangqi, janggi and shogi.

KABADI

Kabadi is a team sport, played mostly in south Asia. The word ‘kabadi’ is derived from a Hindi word that means ‘holding your breath’, which is the activity that underlines all games of kabadi. It is most often played in shorts in villages and in track suits in tournaments. Kabadi was one of the demonstration games at Asiad 82. the kabadi federation of India was founded in 1950 and it compiled a standard set of rules. The armature kabadi federation of India was founded in 1973.

BASKETBALL

Basketball is a non-contact team sport played on a rectangular court by two teams of five players each. The objective is to shoot a ball through a hoop 18 inches in diameter and 10 feet high that is mounted to a backboard at each end of the court. The game was invented in 1891 by dr. James Naismith, who would be the first basketball coach of the most successful programs in the game’s history.

BADMINTON

Badminton is a racquet sport played using racquets to hit a shuttlecock across a net. Although it may be played with larger teams, the most common forms of the game are “singles” and “doubles”. Badminton is often played as a casual outdoor activity in a yard or on a beach; formal games are played on a rectangular indoor court. Points are scored by striking the shuttlecock with the racquet and landing it within the opposing side’s half of the court. The game developed in British India.

TABLE TENNIS

Table tennis, also known as ping pong, is a sport in which two or four players hit a lightweight ball back and forth across a table using a small bat. The game takes place on a hard table divided by a net. Table tennis is governed by the worldwide organization international table tennis federation founded in 1926. the table tennis official rules are specified in the ITTF handbook. Table tennis has been an Olympic sport since 1988, with several categories.

TENNISTennis is a racket sport that can be played individually against a single opponent or between two team of two players each . Each player uses a tennis racket that is strung with cord to strike a hollow rubber ball covered with felt over or around a net and into the opponent’s court. The object of the game is to play the ball in such a way that the opponent is not able to play a valid return. The player who is unable to return the ball will not gain a point, while the opposite player will. Tennis is an Olympic sport and is played at all levels of society and at all ages.
