Porosity is defined as a measure of the capacity of reservoir rocks to contain or store fluids. The fluids stored in the pore spaces within the reservoir rocks could be gas, oil, and water.

Porosity Indicates

3

1 -High porosity values indicate high capacities of the reservoir rocks to contain these fluids

2 -Low porosity values indicate low capacities of the reservoir rocks to contain these fluids

Porosity Measurement

Porosity measurement is a method we can use it to measure the pore spaces between the grains of the rocks , by this way we can indicate the

type of the porosity...

Classification of Porosity

Pore Connection:-

1. Absolute porosity: is the ratio between the total pore volume (interconnected pores and isolated ones) and the bulk volume:

2. Effective Porosity: is the ratio between the interconnected pore volume and the bulk volume:

Classification of Porosity

According to their origin-:

1.primary(original):-Developed during the deposition of the rock material.

Rocks with the original porosity are more uniform in their characteristics.

2 .Secondary (induced) :-Developed by some geologic processes subsequent to deposition of the rock.

Methods of measuring porosity

1. Laboratory:- Numerous methods can be used in the laboratory to determine porosity and density.

Methods of measuring porosity

2- logging :-Several logging techniques are available to measure density or porosity

, by using porosity tools:

A-Density Porosity. B-Neutron Porosity. C-Sonic Porosity.
