Fellowship begins at 7:00; dinner begins at 7:30 pm. HAND - NOTES by Frank Hand Two meetings previous, we changed our dinner hour from 7 to 7:30pm., with the recommendation that we begin gathering at 7. It is evident this is working very well. You that arrive 30 minutes prior to dinner have the added opportunity to get acquainted and compare how-goz-it with your fellow Porsche pushers. Too, being first through the gate, you're in excellent position to take advantage of extra attractions your fearless leaders may come up with. At our last meeting, a good majority of you (it was evident) enjoyed our free bar treat. Maybe an opportunity may prevail again this Friday. Our crystal ball is reflecting it may be worth your time to be on the scene early. Dare you! Your enthusiasm and interest in our Maverick Region Raffle is sin- cerely appreciated. Thanks to you, our trophy fund is growing. Pat Paulsel, I'm sure you will agree, is doing a wonderful job selecting appropriate loot. As a result of your receptiveness, this endeavor will be continued. Frank Seavey, you know, is the quiet type! It might be well if we take special note of his raffle ticket purchasing technique. To date, Frank is a two-time winner. The month of May, and specifically the 16th, is fast approaching. Those of you that haven't dun-it, pul-eese get those reservations in at

PORSCHE PRATTLE

Don't forget the "SPRING THING" coming up May 16 and 17! DONSPAULDING, our Activities Chairman, has written to local regions aboutthe San Marcos weekend, so be prepared to show any visitors how MR canenjoy! .... Speaking of DON, we hear that "Ribbit", his newly-paintedand much-cherished 356C, decided to strike out on its own and rolled downa hill into someone's front yard .... FRANK SEAVEY has special talentswhen it comes to winning MR raffle goodies like coco mats and a modelPorsche. What's the deal, FRANK? .... Thanks to JOE JURAN for a finetalk on SCCA at last month's meeting .... And thanks "mucho" to theinstigators of the FREE (yes, FREE!) open bar at the April meeting ....We observed that CHERYL BARKER liked the gar goodies as much as the winefrom the March meeting; but, then, CHERYL wasn't alone .... Congrats,ROGER! Seems we can't compose a "Porsche Prattle" without includingyour name somewhere .... All wives who dread those race weekends shouldtake a tip from COLLEEN STOREY. She makes the best of a "bad" (pardonme) situation when husband JOHN takes off for the races by participatingin timing and scoring for race activities .... Watch out for ANNA CLAYTONat the next meeting. She's a terror with her dinner fork! (Just ask ourfearless "Slipstream" Editor!) .... MR greets LEIGHTON M. WEBB of Weather-ford as a new member. He drives a '63 356B green coupe and is an aircraftengineer .... A special welcome, also, to CHARLEEN and DAVID HAYES, Theyare driving a '70 red 911 T. Most of you had an opportunity to meetthem at the January meeting. If you don't already know it, DAVID is theSales Manager for Bob Brennand's Porsche-Audi. Again, we are delightedto welcome you to MR .... Congratulations to CHARLES DAVIS for anotheroutstanding showing in the autocross circuit. He drove his 911S to a ClassD win in Equipe Rapide's event last month .... Look for a "GETTING TOKNOW YOU" column in future issues of "Slipstream" .... In closing, Keepin mind two helpful products of interest: "RU-GLIDE", a rubber restor-ation lubricant; and, "VARSITY", a plastic-window cleaner for convert-ible top windows .... Once again, see you at San Marcoe! That shouldprovide us with lots of interesting tid-bits worthy of "Porsche Prattle"write-ups.

356 MOTORING TIPS by Leon Cowan

One Mercedes and three Porsches have demonstrated that the silverbacking on outside mirrors is none too durable. My solution is to breakout the old mirror and have a new one cut at some small glass-mirror firm.(Usually the people in the little neighborhood shops are more helpful thanthe ones in the big company outlets.) Do not try to work out the bevelthat held in the old mirror -- this is futile. Have the new mirror cut sothat it will just fit in the old frame, then ask the glass man to secureit with a generous glob of mirror cement; this is a black substance thatresembles tar or roofing cement. Finally, seal the edge between the newmirror and the frame with bathtub caulk or equivalent. This: usually runsless than a dollar and is about one-tenth the cost of a new factory mirror.

Here are some replacement parts that I have found worthwhile: NiehoffWA-133 for theoil pressure sending switch ($1.05); and, Ideal 535 replacesthe Hella 6130 turn signal flasher unit ($1.50).
