Click on Help, then About at Main Screen for exact Version Number --------------- Jan 29, 2018 Version 3.5 B.075 ------------------ Program now labels Port Velocity as either "Corr" (which means corrected for test pressure) or "Obs" '(not corrected). Corrected for test pressure means that if you measure, say, 200 ft/sec port velocity with a 24" water actual Test Pressure, but have requested the test to be run at 28", the program will increase the 200 ft/sec to 216 ft/sec, the best estimate the program can make as what the velocity would be at 28" water. "Obs" velocity means it stays 200 ft/sec. Note: This correction is only done if Test Pressure is greater than 3 units. The program should now be much faster at reading data fromthe SuperFlow Flowcom. However, if the FlowCom communications appears to produce errors, there is a Preference setting which lets you go back to the communications before this change. Click on Preferences, then Operations tab, then set 'Slower FlowCom Readings (more reliable)' to Yes, then click OK to keep change. Program checks that graphics files are .jpg or .jpeg and does not allow anything else. This will eliminate some extra error messages. Program now is less likely to produce incorrect messages that the FlowCom's units for measurements are not matching the program's units. Program now allows you to enter the Calibrations screen if you have a FlowCom to enter the Electronic 'Hot' Probe's calibration numbers.

--------------- Jan 29, 2018 Version 3.5 B.075 ------------------ Program now labels Port Velocity as either "Corr" (which means corrected for test pressure) or "Obs" '(not corrected).

If you have selected the units of English units but mm for all lift and length measurments, the units in the labels in the Test Options screen are now more correct.

Refined the calibrations for the Electronic 'Hot' Probe's readings when using a SuperFlow FlowCom.

--------------- Jan 8, 2018 Version 3.5 B.074 ------------------ Program now saves files originally from the Examples folder to the My-Tests folder, rather than just saying they can not be saved to the Examples folder.

Added option for reading either Hot Port Velocity or Hot Valve Velocity under Port Velocity "Data" in Test Conds.

Calibration screen for Hot Velocity Probe now has 2 places

Page 2: Port Flow Analyzer v3.5

for calibration data, one for the Port Velocity probe and one for the Valve Velocity probe placed on the edge of the valve.

Added fix so if some value in test grid is out of range, it does not produce an error message which prevents the recording screen from opening.

Added a new Recording Switch option in the FlowCom screen to allow a FlowCom Recording Switch to be turned off. It is under "Options", then "Hand/Foot Switch to Record Data", then "FlowCom Switch Type", then "Switch Disabled".

Added fix in several forms so if you click to open some new screen from the main screen, but some value in test grid is out of range producing an error message, it does not corrupt or blank out the data on the screen you wanted to open.

The screen warning that commas are bring used where the program is expecting decimal points "." is now forced to be on top of other screens to make sure the user sees it.

Added check if requesting Hot Velocity Probe and the Hot Velocity Probe calibration(s) are blank, or the Hot Velocity Probe is marked as not being used.

Fixed a bug where if you Set the Preferences for Black Box II reads both + and - pressure, the program was not responding correctly. Also added message to explain this Preference setting better.

You can now open the top test (current test) in the History Log.

Adjusted the scaling of the Hot Probe Valve Velocity graphs to cover the entire range of velocities recorded.

--------------- Sept 13, 2017 Version 3.5 B.073 ------------------ Got rid of button "Command6", which was left over from something tried in 3.5 B.072 but forgot to hide. Files you delete inside the program are now sent to the Recycle Bin so they can be restored if need be.

--------------- June 2, 2017 Version 3.5 B.072 ------------------

Page 3: Port Flow Analyzer v3.5

Refined the organization of Recording Switch features under Options in Electronics Recording screen. Now all switch options are located under the one heading of "Hand/Foot Switch to Record Data".

Now the Switch Enabled option is marked as checked if you are using a switch for the Black Box II or new Mini USB loggers.

Added ability of FlowComs to read electronic velocity probe.

Program now better gives a message when it is not reading the new Mini USB Black Box.

--------------- April 18, 2017 Version 3.5 B.071 ------------------ Added ability to read Mini USB board.

Fixed a bug likely introduced in v3.5 B.063 where the program was no logger correctly implementing the feature to Fine Tune Flow Sensor.

Added "Perf. Trends USB Mini Black Box" to the list of Type of Electronics in Flow Bench Specs.

Updated the list of Pro and Head Porter features text file under Help.

--------------- Jan 24, 2017 Version 3.5 B.068 ------------------ Fixed bug where program could bomb out if you told program you had an automatic valve opener, but did not have it hooked up.

Did some preliminary work for using the new Electronic Velocity Probe.

Head Porter version of program now does a Tumble Analysis report.

Fixed bug where Hot Wire Anemometer sensor would display correctly on the Electronics Recording screen, but not be recorded correctly into spread sheet.

--------------- Sept 28, 2016 Version 3.5 B.067 ------------------ Fixed bug where the Print Option of "Include Test Conditions" for printing reports was not being done correctly.

Added new option in Electronics screen to allow pressure readings from Black Box II to be Filtered (smoothed) for more stable readings.

Page 4: Port Flow Analyzer v3.5

--------------- Sept 11, 2016 Version 3.5 B.066 ------------------ Took the "bug fix" from v3.5 B.066 and applied it to all Black Box II data readings, not just during calibrating. It is doubtful there was a problem other than during calibration, but it does not appear that this fix has any "down side" to apply to all conditions.

--------------- Sept 8, 2016 Version 3.5 B.065 ------------------ Fixed bug where readings taken during a calibration may not be accurate if the computer speed was quite fast.

--------------- July 18, 2016 Version 3.5 B.063 ------------------ Updated the Emailing features to work better in recent changes to Gmail and other email providers.

Updated Preferences Help file with more emailing info.

Program now warns user to set 'Allow Less Secure Apps' to ON for Gmail accounts to be able to send emails.

Did some refinements to feature 'Fine Tuning Flow Sensor'.

Updated the Help File for the 'Fine Tuning Flow Sensor' feature.

--------------- June 14, 2016 Version 3.5 B.062 ------------------ Program is now better at reading Cam Files measured in millimeters.

--------------- Apr 27, 2016 Version 3.5 B.060 ------------------ Fixed bug where if pitot tube reading was negative, the program could bomb out making a graph.

--------------- Feb 18, 2016 Version 3.5 B.059 ------------------ Fixed bug where switching SuperFlow FlowCom motors on and off via the program could produce unexpected results, like program hanging up, or recording additional data.

Page 5: Port Flow Analyzer v3.5

IMPORTANT: Turning motors On is now done via the Ctrl-F6 of just F6 (for SF1020) command. It used to be via the Ctrl-F8 or just F8 (for SF102) command.

Fixed bug where faster computers could have had problems with communications.

--------------- Feb 15, 2016 Version 3.5 B.058 ------------------ Port Velocity is now shown in black font (not gray) if you are recording a single velocity reading at each data point.

Added better explanation of Valve Opener possibly getting 'confused' and claiming it is extended too far. Message says to 'reboot' the valve opener.

If you changed the Data Point number in the FlowCom screen, the screen did not always update to this change.

We've made some changes to the firmware for the USB swirl meter for better data quality when reading Average swirl averaged over either a 5 or 10 sec period. The improvements are in firmware version 3.06 or later. You can now specify a Micro USB Version in the Calibrations screen Under Swirl/Tumble Meter Type.

There is a 'Help' option at that drop down menu also for more explanation.

Program now checks firmware version for the USB Motor Controller and displays it. Certain features are done differently in the program depending on firmware version of the controller.

Now if the program temporarily turns off the motor controller, it is actually just temporary.

There is a new setting in the program's Motor Controller settings screen for "Pressure Changes High/Low?" to better accomodate Superflow benches and their valve which switches manometer pressure.

The 'Tune' procedure for tuning the Motor Controller has had some bugs fixed and now works better.

If you have set the Preference of Auto Checking Com Ports to No, the program does not check other Com Ports. Prior to this, some checking was done if program sensed the program had not recently communicated to the Black Box or Flow Com.

Page 6: Port Flow Analyzer v3.5

If you have a Motor Controller and you Rezero the pressure sensors, the program asks if you want the Motor Controller's pressure sensor to be zero'd out also.

--------------- Oct 19, 2015 Version 3.5 B.057 ------------------ Added option of holding the Shift key while pressing F8 or F9 to advance or back up 2 ports at a time. This way you stay on the same port Type, for example moving from Intake port to another Intake port. Head porter only.

Added Intro Help Message to explain this 'Shift' key option is possible.

--------------- Oct 15, 2015 Version 3.5 B.056 ------------------ Fixed bug introduced in v3.5B to allow USB style SuperFlow FlowComs communicate with 64 bit computers. The bug would occur if you pressed F8 or F9 to move to a different port while testing, the program would lock up.

--------------- Aug 28, 2015 Version 3.5 B.055 ------------------ Program now shows "LPS" for SF1020 flow ranges if Metric.

Program now turns the motors On when you press F1 for starting a test if senses the test pressure is near zero and you have a Flowcom.

If Flowcom looses communications, the program is now faster at recovering communications.

Fixed a bug where the program would not estimate the proper SF1020 range to set if you were using Metric LPS units and the automatic valve opener.

Program now displays the SF1020 full scale CFM or LPS range in the Recording screen.

Program now displays the step number for Valve Lift if using the automatic valve opener. This can be useful for debugging.

Widened the field for displaying Valve Lift for the automaic valve opener.

Program now gives more time for certain steps and some other

Page 7: Port Flow Analyzer v3.5

enhancements to make the automatic valve opener procedure less likely to get hung up.

Program should now be better at finding the "Home" position for the automatic valve opener from the Ctrl-H command.

--------------- Aug 23, 2015 Version 3.5 B.054 ------------------ Program now recommends you choose 'Prompt at Range Change' if you are using the automatic Valve Opener and have a FlowCom on a flowbench that is not the SF1020 bench, which can automatically change ranges itself.

Program now automatically starts up the motors when you press F1 to start a test if you have a FlowCom type flow and the program senses the motors are not running.

Program now changes color of the Flow Reading to red on a FlowCom type bench if it senses it is over 100% to warn it is too high.

Program now waits 5 seconds (instead of 3 seconds) to sense if the the Automatic Valve Opener has found the valve tip when you start a test. FlowCom communications can be slow and may require this extra time.

The program has adjusted the 'Default' settings for the auto valve opener to provide more power, and 'Prompt at Range Change' if you have a FlowCom bench which is not SF1020.

Fixed a nagging "DrawTabsEr Err = " error message which could sometimes occur if you minimized the Port Flow main screen.

Added more debugging messages for when writting the Debugging File.

You can now use shortcut keys Ctrl-F7 to turn the motors Off and Ctrl-F8 to turn the motors On if you have a FlowCom.

--------------- Aug 5, 2015 Version 3.5 B.053 ------------------ Put back command for turning On and Off motors with FlowCom, even if bench is not an SF1020.

--------------- July 8, 2015 Version 3.5 B.052 ------------------ Fixed bug where data recorded in pressure was not converted to velocity when doing certain port velocity maps. This bug was

Page 8: Port Flow Analyzer v3.5

introduced in v3.5 B.008 when it became necessary to split a very large routine in the program into 2 separate routines.

--------------- June 4, 2015 Version 3.5 B.051 ------------------ Increased limits for CFM when doing Test Corrections to adjust flow bench flows to match a certain Calibrated Orifice flow numbers up from 600 to 1300 CFM.

Pitot tube pressures now show the pitot tube pressure or velocity corrected for any change in Test Pressure, just as CFM or LPS flow is corrected. Prior to this, this correction was only applied to the recorded data, not the displayed data.

Added Preference to allow disabling this correction to Port Velocity measurements, under Definitions tab.

Added a 'Correction Info' button in Test Options screen with the Port Velocity details to explain this new Preference and how it will affect your Port Velocity measurements.

--------------- May 6, 2015 Version 3.5 B.050 ------------------ Made it easier to recover program's configuration file should it become corrupted.

--------------- Apr 25, 2015 Version 3.5 B.049 ------------------ When checking to see of SF1020 can switch to a different test pressure, the program now sets 36 units if you are using metric units.

Added error message if program having problem setting test pressure.

When checking to see of SF1020 did switch to a different test pressure, the program now checks to see if it matches the desired result for both units of inches or cm of water.

Added 'Rezero FlowCom' under Options, which explains how to rezero the FlowCom pressure sensors.

Eliminated a possible 'nag' screen where you were warned the Electronics (or FlowCom) screen had been resized but the Preference for resizing 'had not been turned on.

--------------- Feb 7, 2015 Version 3.5 B.046 ------------------

Page 9: Port Flow Analyzer v3.5

Added a Preference under General Operation tab to allow you to specify the flow readings to be recorded to nearest .01%.

Show 'Load from FlowCom Now' button in Flow Bench specs for SF 260, SF450, SF 750.

Fixed bug where some features in the Flow Bench specs screen were not working correctly after you used the 'Load from FlowCom Now' button.

--------------- Jan 28, 2015 Version 3.5 B.045 ------------------ Fixed bug where "Fix" put in for V3.5 B.041 for reporting Port Velocity was applied to too many different test configurations. Bug introduced was program was reporting Pressure even if you asked for Velocity to be reported.

--------------- Dec 30, 2014 Version 3.5 B.044 ------------------ Added option to debug USB Swirl Meter Communications in Recording screen, under Help, then Troubleshoot, then "Write Debugging USB Swirl Meter File".

--------------- Dec 23, 2014 Version 3.5 B.043 ------------------ Made additional changes to the routine which reads the USB Swirl meter to work on more variations in computer speed.

--------------- Dec 19, 2014 Version 3.5 B.042 ------------------ Updated valve opener driver on CD to latest. Seems to fix some communications problems with auto valve opener.

--------------- Dec 6, 2014 Version 3.5 B.041 ------------------ Fixed minor bug where if you changed the Graph Name for the first file in the History Log, it would not stay permanent.

Fixed bug where the USB Swirl readings were not being read immediately (could be delayed) or read correctly.

Fixed bug where if you selected to record a single velocity data point and were using electronics for recording, the recorded data could have conversions applied to it twice (producing incorrect data).

Page 10: Port Flow Analyzer v3.5

--------------- Oct 31, 2014 Version 3.5 B.040 ------------------ Put in message to explain the options for Recording Port Velocity if you selected to do 1 port velocity for all lifts. Message mentions Preference option to change this function.

Repositioned Label and Shape which are used when using the auto valve opener. These had become obstructed with the bar graphs possible with the Head Porter version.

Program now eliminates extra Port Velocity columns if you have selected to do just 1 velocity at all lifts.

Program now forces the Electronics for SF260, SF450 and SF750 benches to FlowCom.

Program no longer asks about Early FlowCom unless you have selected FlowCom as the Electronics.

Fixed bug where CFM results would not be recorded even if they were being displayed in the Electronics screen. Problem seemed to only occur if a temperature needed for the CFM calculation was zero (0).

--------------- Oct 29, 2014 Version 3.5 B.039 ------------------ Program now allows re-entry of Registered Code if the config file becomes corrupt.

Fixed bug introduced in v3.5 B.018 where the Exh Rocker Ratio was not being used correctly to show Gross Valve Lift in the Engine Specs screen. This did not affect the accuracy of the Engine Performance Estimate report.

--------------- Oct 23, 2014 Version 3.5 B.038 ------------------ Fixed some of the menuing problems in the Preferences screen for Emailing.

Fixed bug where newly activated Emailing Preference needed to have choices added.

--------------- Oct 9, 2014 Version 3.5 B.037 ------------------ Increased the upper limit for acceptable flow ranges on the SF750.

Page 11: Port Flow Analyzer v3.5

--------------- Sept 22, 2014 Version 3.5 B.036 ------------------ This version of software now checks to see if the temperature probes in the SF60 bench could be reversed from typical installation. If they are reversed, the software now correctly knows the warmer temperature is for the air flow AFTER the motor.

A Preference lets you switch the function so it operates as it did before this change.

--------------- Sept 17, 2014 Version 3.5 B.035 ------------------ Now if you answer No to 'Try Again?' to try the Black Box II communications not working, the program exits out of the Electronics Screen.

Furthere refined the USB controller logic so it can control better after turning the motors on or off.

Program now checks that the 4 readings taken to be used for Tuning the controller are stable, and recommend the user to take different action.

If the controller logic resets the Integral portion, the program now better follows that up with not again resetting it unless really needed.

--------------- Aug 27, 2014 Version 3.5 B.034 ------------------ Added message if the USB Swirl Meter Com Port has not been set and turn off looking for the swirl meter.

Program now senses if you have clicked on 'Swirl Meter Type' in the calibrations screen and tells you to record swirl, you must also choose 'Swirl' for 'Other Details' to record in the Flow Bench specs screen.

--------------- July 30, 2014 Version 3.5 B.033 ------------------ The change added to v3.5 B.029 to allow manually scale the port velocity graphs so the Max and Min can be within 1 unit of each other was not always saved. Now it is.

The Preference which told the program to ask or not ask about using a VERY early FlowCom (the first 50 or so made before 1998) now has a new choice to force program us assume early FlowCom (and not ask or check). The Preference is now called

Page 12: Port Flow Analyzer v3.5

"Early (pre 1998) FlowCom?" under Gen Operation, cont. tab.

--------------- July 2, 2014 Version 3.5 B.032 ------------------ Changed the weather correction for JKM benches. Prior to this, the correction was done exactly as shown in the JKM instruction manual. Two different users pointed out that the correction was backward, and our analysis confirmst it is. The original JKM correction would have CFM increase if Barometer went higher or Temperature went lower. Now the JKM correction has CFM DECREASE if Barometer goes higher or Temperature goes lower, and this physically makes more sense.

--------------- June 28, 2014 Version 3.5 B.031 ------------------ Program now accurately reads the Black Box II with a Baro sensor only (no temp or humidity sensor).

--------------- June 27, 2014 Version 3.5 B.030 ------------------ Added notes for the Preference of using Weather Corrections when using a JKM bench. There is now a JKM Info button in Preferences for more info and an explanation label.

Added example JKM Bench file as a template.

Added more debugging info for debugging valve opener operation with sf1020 bench.

Program now changes sf1020 ranges by 2 ranges if flow pressure goes above 100% or below 40% if possible.

--------------- June 16, 2014 Version 3.5 B.029 ------------------ Now where program predicts the CFM range to use for SF1020 bench when no CFM ranges are provided, the program only fills in 2 ranges, so there are less bench shut downs for changing ranges.

You can now manually scale the port velocity graphs so the Max and Min can be within 1 unit of each other. This can be useful for recording special valves equipped with pressure taps.

If using Motor Controller and Valve Opener, program will now shut down the bench at the end of the test.

Added several more events to be recorded in the Debugging Log file for debugging SF1020 range changes during automatic testing.

Page 13: Port Flow Analyzer v3.5

--------------- May 22, 2014 Version 3.5 B.027 ------------------ Added Option in the FlowCom screen to display some debugging info when an SF1020 goes through a range change when using the Auto Valve Opener to automate the test.

--------------- April 18, 2014 Version 3.5 B.026 ------------------ Added a "cancel printing" option if problem print page header.

If very long file name and program prints header with small font, the picture files can be drawn larger than the border. Fixed.

Added check so printed data summaries for a graph would not be repeated if a page break occured in middle of printing these summaries.

Fixed bug where the Fine Tuning info about the flow manometer was conflicting with the Com Port for the USB Swirl Meter.

Added simple feature to allow manual tuning of new controller.

Fixed bug where the exhaust direction of the new controller was not updating correctly.

Fixed bug where if no controller is found, the program keeps trying to find it.

--------------- Feb 9, 2014 Version 3.5 B.022 --------------------- Fixed bug where the wrong style of Valve Opener USB Driver could be installed after you answered the question about having a New or Old Valve Opener.

Program now saves an Example file you open to the My-Tests folder as soon as you open it.

Changed Comm1 to Comm1Old in frmCalcData. Added Scomm32.ocx and named this Comm1 as was the name of the old MSComm32.ocx. This should only be for setting up the Voji Controller.

Program now better checks for Com Ports for Black Box II and won't call the Controller port a Black Box II port.

Page 14: Port Flow Analyzer v3.5

Refixed the metric bug found in v3.5 B.012. At some point this 'fix' got lost.

Finished the new 'Troubleshoot Valve Opener' option which runs a different program to check out the operation of the valve opener.

Program now updates the 'Preview' of port velocity graph scales in the Set Scales screen in the Graph screen.

Added Preference under the "Printing/Graphing" tab to force the Port Velocity Maps to all be graphed to the same scale throughout the program.

--------------- Dec 19, 2013 Version 3.5 B.020 --------------------- Improved appearance of printed port velocity map for rectangular ports.
