something about me

Ever since I was a child I had a passion for

technology and for how things work. I was de-

termined to be an inventor. After high school

I was eager to start my academic education

in industrial design engineering.

During my education I realized the responsi-

bilities of an industrial designer when design-

ing products for the people on this planet. My

mission is to design meaningful products that

significantly improve our lives without com-

promising the environment.

I love connecting with people from different

parts of the world to experience more than

what the Dutch culture has to offer and to

broaden my horizon. I believe there is a lot to

learn from the diversity in cultures and that

it is increasingly important for designers to

have an extremely open mind to be able to be

creative and innovative.

agricultural machinery

This concept add-on for all terrain vehicles was designed for

Schuurman BV as my final bachelor project. It enables usage of

agricultural machinery such as log splitters, mowers and mini bal-

ers. The torque provided by a gasoline engine is converted in hy-

draulic pressure and torque similar to a mini tractor.

Design brief Design an innovative

product to increase

the functionality of all

terrain vehicles in the

context of agriculture.

SolutionWith this power take-off system

an all terrain vehicle will acquire

the same functionality as a mini

tractor.

Design brief Design a stairlift for elderly that

reduces the stigma of being for

old and dependent people.

SolutionThe stairlift is a platform

with a seat that can be

leaned on. The steer is

tilted slightly forward

to move forward.

This stairlift is the result of an advanced concept design course

commissioned by ThyssenKrupp Accessibility. The aim of this final

concept was to reduce the stigma by giving the product a luxu-

rious appearance. The sketches below show an idea generation

session that lead to the final concept.

Design brief Design a device that

prevents ankle buck-

ling during ice skating.

SolutionAn ankle stabilizer with a car-

bon fiber shell. The product

consists of two parts that can

easily be mounted on and off.

This was a group project and my main focus was the translation of

partial solution sketches in to a 3D CAD design. I designed carbon

fiber shell and the mold for it.

A prototype was made and tested using a high speed camera that

was mounted on the ice skate. The trajectory of the ankle was

then measured with and without the ankle stabilizer to see how

much the ankle buckling was reduced. The deviation of the ankle

with the ankle stabilizer is represented by the red line below.

SolutionA modular partitioning system

that is designed for flex offices

In this group project I was also responsible for the translation of

sketches in to a 3D CAD product, stress simulations and renders.

The partitioning system is completely made out of aluminum ex-

trusion profiles and panels. These panels vary from glass, plastic,

steel to even special materials like texteel. This way any kind of

space divider can be created for any type of working environ-

ment with any additional purpose. They have been optimized in

weight so that any person can build or reposition their space di-

vision.

reclining chair system

Design brief

Design an ergonomic reclining chair

mechanism that is adjustable in size

for Well-Fair BV.

SolutionAn ergonomic chair, adjustable in all sig-

nificant dimensions. Biomechanically op-

timized to prevent discomfort induced

by shear forces.

adjustable dimension

upholstered for user testing

The mechanism was designed with a user centered approach; re-

search was done in to the user activities in the recliner. Then the

inclination angles of the seat, backrest and footrest were defined

with a biomechanical model. The backrest was designed so that

when inclining, the shirt pull effect would not occur. After building

a prototype and user testing it was concluded that the theory of

this design was valid.

Demand

Design a 3D human model in SolidWorks

that can be used as a reference in a

control room designs.

The 3D human models are able to change their size and posture

with one mouse-click. The models can sit straight, sit slumped,

stand straight, shake hands and walk. The models give an indica-

tion of the size on the objects in the designed environment and an

impression of how the environment would look like in use.

rapidprototyping

This airplane was modelled in Rhinoceros and 3D printed for an

elective course. A demand was to use as few material as possible

so I demounted the wings and created cavities so they could be

attached after printing. Moving parts where also directly printed

and cavities were left for an alien object (magnets).

surfacemodelling

With surface modelling in SolidWorks or Rhinoceros I can model

organically shaped products. I modelled this BMW as a challenge

and an exercise to see how I would pull it off. (2013)

motionanalysis

This toy airplane was modelled in SolidWorks as an exercise

in modelling, moldflow analysis and motion analysis. There-

fore it contains advanced mates that make the model move

according to the gearwheel ratios.

The propeller was used for the moldflow analysis where an

optimum in temperature, wall thickness and injection location

for injection molding was found.
