This portfolio is a collection of substances. Substance of inspiration, substance of creation that fed my work and continuously builds and strenghten my work in architecture. This substance is in perpetual motion. The idea is to continue to draw from this material and transform it. So I decided to put down some things for them to later be amended, amplified, used. This is a matter that will serve me in this process of professionalization. My portfolio therefore presents urban projects, architecture projects, art, as well as references that can account for my inspirations. I like to start a project in an instinctive. Tapping into the resources to inspire and identify the main ideas. Distorting, exaggerating, experimenting, collecting are actions that allow the development of the substance. Then I like to work the material and do something out of it. Working with model is quite essential to this point of view. It’s slow to ripen and yet fast enough to edit. This has a very rough side which also enables to assert my positions. The assertion in a project is something important since it is the main thrust of the project. This raw material is then reworked by a set of knowledge that enables elegant project. This idea of working substances induces that nothing is guaranteed and that the range of possibilities stays wide open.

Substance used to describe the subject that persists below modes and features. We can still define the substance as invariable about the change, the qualities of a thing, shape, colour, resis-tance; can change without the substance that supports ceases to exist.

Re(Tessin)er la plaine (redraw the plain) is my graduation project done with 2 other col-laborators, project on which we’ve been working for almost a year. This project was first a proposal from the tutors asking us to think the new Città Ticino and the diffuse city. The project was run in collaboration with the University of Mendrisio in Ticino, supervised by Michele Arnaboldi. What is interesting about this work is that it takes place over a relatively long period, close from the time of an actual consultation. Having this long time makes it possible to form a relatively rich substance. Another very positive point in this graduation project is the team-work which gives a very interesting dynamic in the process of the project. This tensioning is permanent since it generates discussing, negotiating, choices that are made collectively. Our project in the plain of Magadino in Ticino questions the future of the «Città Ticino.» What answer to the “Città diffusa”? What form does the metropolis take? We’ve highlighted the figure of the archipelago, composed of solids and voids. Solids being urban parts or «islands» and voids being natural elements (hydrography, topography, infrastructure). It is necessary to mark the boundaries of the two entities in order to strengthen the link between the two and promote reliance on the given territory. Our work builds on existing entities, the «already there» in order to strengthen, amplify it. We have implemented an inventory that identifies these situations. Then, from this, we have developed a toolkit that allows you to hi-ghlight specific situations and tools to strengthen them. This inventory is made up of islands and in-betweens and strips where we will meet particular situations. The toolbox is applied on a case by case basis and needs to be decorated in as situations differ. The tool appears to be a new way of thinking urban project with new temporality. The project adaptability is put forward with the tool to cope with a society where lifestyles becomes more complex and the uncertainty in the project is becoming greater. So we did not propose a master plan, but rather the idea of a Leitbild that appears more flexible.

From the swiss myth to the metropolitan myth

How to anchor and live an agricultural land in a singular metropolitan system? The Milanese metropolis, third biggest metropolitan area in Western Europe, is the centre of the composition of the Padane megalopolis. It extends from Turin to Venice and Genoa to the Swiss border. It is also the southern end of the European backbone, now isolated by the Alps. Position and affirm the Città Ticino as a strong articulation between these two economic areas, and as a gate for the Rhine valley and the Padane megalopolis.

TERRITORY OF THE IN-BETWEEN: BETWEEN PADANE MEGALOPOLIS AND VALLEY OF THE RHINELANDCITTÀ TICINO: BETWEEN AUGMENTED GEOGRAPHY AND METROPOLITAN VIR-TUALITY

These two complementary approaches will allow the Città Ticino to exist, to assert itself against the Milan metropolis via two speeds and two different scales in the metropolis. One in the Lom-bard cultural area, the other on a larger scale, as a new link between the two major economic areas of Europe. The «geographical» axis exacerbates the characteristics of each territory, gives continuity to the Ticino River, from the Swiss valleys up to Milan, via Lake Maggiore. The rehabilitation of this axis passes through the upgrading of waterways, railways today devoted to freight, a new rela-tion to the lake. This axis, place of the metropolitan inhabited is in the tendancy of sustainablity and rooted in its metropolitan territory (milan 2015, feeding the planet, energy for life), making agriculture more than a mere place of production and research, but rather a place of metropo-litan culture (tourism, recreation ...). The «infrastructure» axis: connecting Milan to Zurich (in about 2 hours), is the vector of metro-polizing the canton of Ticino, as discussed here we reinforce strengths, prioritize territories based on their specialties and characteristics: finance, universities, logistics, agriculture, industries. Alp Transit stops in the Magadino plain which is at the intersection of the two metropolitan axis. The plain, still relatively unspoilt, becomes a metropolitan territory issues, constrained by new dynamics (suburbanization, land pressure, denial of territory in its economic and indus-trial development: the case of Cadenazzo and Riazzino where industries have begun to nibble the plain ... etc..) that can put in danger, and have already triggered a significant change in this part of Ticino.

It is now necessary to include the plain in a necessary and inevitable metropolization. Virtuous, rooted in the territory, taking advantage of its otherness.

METROPOLITAN ATMOSPHERE

We think the metropolization process as a phenomenon that must be rooted in a territory, draw in resources to reveal the potential of the latter. Potentials that are necessary for the manufacture of this metropolitan atmosphere. So it requires a new representation of its ter-ritory, a new relationship of the body to it. The region’s potential is therefore a necessary condition for the inhabited. We defined our sites of metropolitan living situations as frictions in the territory where pro-grammatic integrity / hyper connectivity and diversity / proximity exist, ie the metropolitan myth and the Swiss myth. We have seen that the process of metropolization was able to apply only when properly networking territories, flows, materials, knowledge ... It is therefore the relational aspect that seems to take precedence the others in the process. At the scale of Magadino, we thought this relational system as a networking programmatic integrity. Hybrid territories characteristic of the metropolitan inhabited where there is co-production between the small scale and the large scale of the territory. The most intense programmatic integrity is around Alp transit where global and local streams meet. It is ultimately flow intensity that will generate this hyper metropolitan system that will in turn generate subsystems and create interdependance with the plain and thus be part of the metropolization process of the plain. This system is in perpetual motion. A sys-tem of relationship, complexity, made out of flows of all kinds. A porous system at different speeds and scales. These systems and subsystems speak of this metropolitan audacity which usually supply this territory for a metropolization. HOW TO INSTALL THE ATMOSPHERE IN METROPOLITAN SYSTEMS AND SUB-SYSTEMS? CROSS LOOKS: METROPOLITAN CHRONICLESHYPER METROPOLITAN SYSTEM / HYPERFORM Hyper compact object, metropolitan machine that feeds hyper dense flows. Location of hyper connectivity and hyper programmatic integrity. It is a platform capable of absorbing logistics, flows, transformation, feeding ... Programmatic integrity since it embodies the ambition of the plain to become an area of experimentation and hyper specialization. We can speak of a true metropolitan icon. METROPOLITAN SUBSYSTEM / HYBRID CITY Object that settles in a more diffuse and heterogeneous urban or rural fabric, it allows the metropolitan coproduction. Hybrid city is composed of urban amenities of programma-tic integrities, connectivity in order to live by the diversity and proximity. Space where the intensity and intimacy coexist. It is in this friction that comes to settle the metropolitan inhabited, essential to the metropolitan atmosphere.

We surveyed the city in a process of drift. Getting lost in the city without a plan, borrowed the Shanghai Metro, drown in this endless flow of people. Speed, flow, information, sound and light. All these parameters have been used to feed the novice eye in this megalopo-lis. Everything is hyper-controlled, regulated. Signals and some informations. The image is everywhere; the station forecourt through the subway, going up to the headrest of the cab. An architecture school is a peculiar place. The environment where a student will grow into an architect and acquire knowledge through experience is fundamental. Experiencing that place must feel unique and yet effortless. For our school, we emphasized spaces that foster reativity. We wanted it to highlight interactions and relationships. To make the architect conscious he has to be open to his environment, both local and global. How we can use an architecture school as a pedagogical tool, rather than just attend it, is at the heart of our vision.The tower is meant as a signal that indicates the gate of the city on its sea front, facing port Rashid. A city as emblematic of architecture deserves a strong symbol, such as this architecture school. The urban project circumvents infrastructures and facilitates the interplay between the city and the sea through the use of a system of programmatic strips. The strips unfold their own topography for different functions, and ensure a coherent development of public spaces on the sea front, thus answering one of Dubai’s great chal-lenges. The school will create an impetus and position itself as a pivot for the ongoing urban expansion of the sea front, reinforcing the city’s metropolitan image.

The tower takes after the city’s urban design: much like public space in the city consists of a series of places linked by streets and passages, the tower creates a series of spaces that allow for new relations, sequences, paths and atmospheres. We started with a solid mass from which we subtracted matter by carving out empty spaces that appear on the façade. Some empty spaces open up on the outside and naturally ensure ventilation for the whole building. Students and working architects can use the spaces to meet, relax and exchange views.

The tower can be broken into blocks where each hosts the class of a given year. Each of them is given a symbolic program articulated around a backbone that runs through the whole tower, and which includes libraries for books, materials and other media as well as relaxing spaces. Elevators and freight elevators are intentionally glazed and cover the whole tower: as they go up and down, their users can briefly see all of the activities going on inside. Like the city, our tower is structured around a lattice to maximize potential connections, and programs can be placed arbitrarily in one block or another. For example, the painting studio, which can be used by all students, is located between the blocks for first-year and second-year students. It is easy to imagine how students of all years will go through all the different parts of the building, creating richer and more productive interac-tions between students, and making the tower a hotspot.

we analyzed the area near the station on the side of the costitution’s bridge and we imme-diately noticed how it was a very narrow, long and little used by people, which is why we decided to create a unique public space that will extend throughout the area. Our interest was to create a link between the existing greenzone, the water and the station, reconnecting it through a bridge that passed over the area and linked it to botanical garden.So we’ve decided to retrain the existing building and use it only with the supporting structure to create a open space at the ground floor included the public space between that building and the Santa Lucia station which allows to perceive the seasight when you arrived by train.Inside that building “born” different ramps supported by a structure of steal’s TUBI with different heights, extended along the side of the gran canal. We decided to create different walkways that depart from the building and are divided into different paths that include the presence of many small pavillions (that remind to container) or aggregation’s areas with a small bar, a swimming pool and other types of activities that make the property livable than just passing through. At the end of the structure we have the vertical connection with the bridge that cross over the station with the continuation of one of the ramps and that is lighter in confront of the rest of the structure to create a sort of continous dematerialization.

Old stately property of the Archbishops of Rouen, Deville-les-Rouen is part of the northwest suburbs of Rouen. The river crossed by the Cailly. It is an industrial site known from the eighteenth century to its metallurgical industries, factories vitriol, its dyeing and textile industries. The area was also heavily destroyed by Allied bombing in June 1944 This site appeared to us at first particularly fragmented. A constellation of cut neighborhoods and cut each other by roads or railways. In this incoherent environment, we were interested to frac-tures and thresholds between different urban pockets as well as unusual objects and derelict land. We sought to reintroduce mobility imagining that these objects have their own lives and run between neighborhoods such as passes-walls. By extension, we also sought to move the site on the table of the workshop from several families of raw objects: ready-made, casts, sculptures both on the site and in the workshop and moved permanently between the two locations. The model of the gallery picture pole casting plaster is the synthesis of our many experiments. Similarly we had made negative plaster with the site, the voids which form the full mass surrounds the visitor. Faults and circulations are produced by the walls. We had planned to unmold the model 1/10 and completed but its sculptural quality, mass placed on a movable carriage convinced us to leave it as is.

What future for the city Strasbourgeoise in 2050? The decline of some port activities reflects on the / River City relationship that is fragmented by the current structure of the port. Indeed, Strasbourg has a special relationship with the Rhine is a major economic engine in European trade. We have been considering the future of the oil port. The Site is in the heart of Robertsau, enjoys a special landscape with the forest that comes to define its limits and the European institutions that are strong neighborhood identity. Conservation silos and port activity strengthens the specific identity of the port to oil. The axes are the founders of the project European axis and green and blue enter in dialogue to create an urban epicenter. So I wanted my project to the science center an assertive archi-tecture which results in the monolith.
