GROWING up in Omaha has provided me with a front-row seat to the city’s growing corporate and social scenes, which have had a heavy influence on my career-path. I’m highly motivated by curiosity and my passion for creativity. I’m a goal-oriented self-starter who took the initiative to work

multiple jobs throughout my college career, making it possible for me to self-finance my education at Creighton and graduate in four years, debt-free, without the aid of student loans. I’m actively seeking opportunities that are not geographically limited to the greater Omaha area.

I was contacted by a representative at Harvard College’s Kennedy School of Government to design a highlight book for their Philippines Retreat. This was a 20-page booklet that consisted of photos, a breakdown of their itinerary, participant reflections and highlights from post-retreat reunions. Its purpose was to attract prospective students to the program. I had complete freedom when it came to the design aspects of the book and created it using Adobe InDesign. All communication was done via email and the project was completed in two weeks.

The Pavilion is a corporate hospitality tent available for rent during the College World Series. During my time at planitOmaha, I was in charge of redesigning the direct mail piece that is sent out annually. The prior theme featured green and polka dots and I chose reds and greys with a faint baseball pattern in the back. In addition to the direct mail piece, I also got to tweak the logo to represent the Pavilion’s 15th anniversary. I executed the design aspects of this project in Photoshop.

I have a lot of experience using DSLR cameras for photography and videography. I spent three years as a photographer on my high school’s yearbook staff and continued classes throughout college. My work includes head-shots, sporting events and candid photography. My most noteworthy photography gig is the 2014 Berkshire Hathaway Shareholder’s Meeting, in which I was the only photographer, in addition to Berkshire’s, allowed within the barriers of the table tennis court when Warren Buffett and Bill Gates took on champion Ariel Hsing.

Another project I was able to be a part of during my time at planitOmaha was Omaha’s Commercial Real Estate Summit. The CRE Summit is an annual workshop for local real estate professionals. In celebration of its 25th anniversary, the executives updated their logo, which meant all media pieces for the event needed to be revamped. Based off the logo alone, I was able to come up with a theme that included a skyline image that, featured in the power points, name tags, sign-age and the program -- all of which I played a major part in designing using Photoshop and InDesign.

My experience in designing a suite of marketing pieces is best exemplified in the work I did for The 2014 Omaha Charity Sports Banquet during my time at planitOmaha. The keynote speaker was Peyton Manning, so naturally I based my color scheme and font choice on the Denver Broncos. For this, I used Photoshop and InDesign. I was in charge of designing the general admission tickets, the VIP passes, the poster and the web ad.

A project I was a part of as a subcontractor for planitOmaha was the logo redesign for The Nebraska Statewide Arboretum’s Spring Affair, which is a plant sale fundraiser. The NSA is a botanical garden located in Lincoln, Nebraska. The logo changes according to theme every year, but this year they wanted a design that could carry over and be used for years to come. I started completely from scratch for this project, using Photoshop and Illustrator, and presented them with three different options. This design was their favorite and is featured on the website and direct mail pieces.

More of my creative side is expressed in personal freelance projects I do. One of my favorites is a set of save-the-dates I did for a local couple. I consulted with the couple to find out their colors and theme for their wedding, as well as to get a good idea of their personalities. Over about a week of sending ideas back and forth, they chose the bottom photo for their save-the-dates. This was a particularly fun project for me to do, as I enjoyed creatively portraying someone’s personality in something they would send out to their closest friends and family. I was also asked to design their invitation suite, which is featured later in my portfolio.

Typography has always been a passion of mine. I think there is something very cool about a word that speaks for itself. The top and bottom photos are examples of a project I did for class. The objective was to define a word using only the word and no color. The middle photo is a word-as-image project I did completely by hand and then scanned on the computer. I am in the process of turning it into a print that I can frame and give as a gift for a friend of mine who studied abroad. I’m also in the process of creating my own thank you cards and stationary for personal use.

I am still learning the ropes of web design. I have created websites using Wordpress, Adobe Muse, Squarespace and Wix and enjoy different features of each one. I have experience with HTML, CSS, jQuery and responsive design. The photos to the left are of a website I created for a fake business for a class project. For this website, I had to include a certain amount of interactive features, including drop-down menus, a drag and drop shopping cart and parallax scrolling effects.

As part of most of my internships and part-time jobs, I’ve worked a lot with social media. The platforms I’ve used the most are Facebook and Instagram but I also have experience with Twitter, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Picstitch and Flipgram. My goal for any social media account I work with is to produce fresh, engaging content that strongly portrays the voice of the business.

I have personal presence on the following platforms: Twitter: @MaddieBendorf Instagram: @MaddieBendorf Facebook: facebook.com/madison.noel LinkedIn: linkedin.com/pub/madison-bendorfPinterest: pinterest.com/madisonbendorf

During my internship with Creighton University Marketing and Communications department, I wrote two to four news releases a week for events around campus. In addition to news releases, I have experience with speech writing, grant writing, video scripting, creative writing, website copy and direct mail pieces. Most of my work is written according to AP Style.

I have a personal Wordpress blog that I have used to document my educational and professional adventures over the last four years. I think I have a strong voice when I write and it is best expressed in my blog. I am hoping to revamp and continue my blog, more for entertainment purposes and to give a glimpse into post-grad life.

Brand development is one of my favorite aspects of graphic design. I’ve been lucky enough to take part in many brand development projects. As an intern at Ready or Knot, I worked on a variety of graphic design pieces that coordinated directly with existing brand standards. Pictured is a letterpress coaster I designed for brides who purchased their dress from Ready or Knot. As Marketing/Client coordinator at Kontempo., I created a social media brand guideline sheet to ensure that the salon’s online identity is accurately represented at all times.
