TITLE BrochureDescription:A dual sided folded brochure

Date: 12/6/2015

Course:Comm 130 Section 7Ben Pingel

Programs:Adobe InDesign, Illistrator, and Photoshop

Objective: Create a folding brochure that effectively shows off a company. Learn how to use text wrapping and paragraph styles.

Process: I first set up an offset brochure in Adobe InDesign. I then measured out the size of brochure I wanted and set up rulers at the correct measurements. After I set up the brochure I created the logo in Adobe Illustrator. I used the ellipse tool to create the different circles in the donut and the line tool to create the sprinkles. I wrapped the text around the donut so that it incorporated the circular feel. For all of the images I took them into Photoshop and removed the background of each of the images. I then used the ‘refine mask’ to make the edges softer and not look like a straight cutout. I placed the images into InDesign and used the ‘text wrap’ to wrap my text around the ‘alpha channel’ of the image, so it gave more character to the page instead of just a plain text box.

TITLE MontageDescription:A spiritual montage created by blending mulit-ple images and typography

Date: 10/24/2015

Course:Comm 130 Section 7Ben Pingel

Programs:Adobe Photoshop

Objective:Learn how to manage layers in Photoshop, how to blend images together smoothly, and how to use typography effectively

Process:I cropped the background image of the ship to 8.5x11, for the printing size. Then I lassoed the scriptures out of the original image and placed them onto the background and added a mask. With the black paint at 100% opacity I painted out the little bit of hard edge I had left in my pictureWith a larger brush at an opacity of 20% I blended the image slowly into the background. Lastly I added font with an overlay and drop shadow so that it blends with the background.

TITLE Business Card

Description:Create a matching business card and letter head using a personally created logo

Date:11/7/2015

Course:Comm 130 Section 7Ben Pingel

Programs:Adobe Illustrator and InDesign

Objective:Creare a new logo that represents a company and then create a business card that represents the company.

Process:I created a logo in Adobe Illustrator using simple shapes like rectangles and circles. After I created the logo I used the pathfinder tool to combine the shapes. Once I created and finalized the logo I created a two page InDesign document and put the .AI logo into the document. I then made the business card first so I created a 3.5×2 rectangle. I copied and fit the logo into the card. I created a second rectangle and filled it in teal to help bring the colors of the boom box into the full design. I aligned the text to be within as much of the boom box as possible and then made sure that there was an equal amount of space around so it looked balanced.

TITLE LetterheadDescription:Create a matching business card and letter head using a personally created logo

Date:11/7/2015

Course:Comm 130 Section 7Ben Pingel

Programs:Adobe Illustrator and InDesign

Objective:Creare a new logo that represents a company and then create a business card that represents the company.

Process:Once I had created the logo I created a two page InDesign document and put the .AI logo into the document. I then created a full bleed leterhead on one of the pages in the document. On my letterhead I put my logo in the top righthand corner and then put all the contact information in the top lefthand corner. I added the dash line to the top and bottom to help create unity and repetition within the letter head.

TITLE LogosDescription:Create three variations of a logo for a company

Date:10/31/2015

Course:Comm 130 Section 7Ben Pingel

Programs:Adobe Illustrator

Objective:Use the tools in Illustrator to create a variety of a design for a company

Process:I created multiple sketches and drafts to come up with a solid design for my friends photography business. I took a vote and went with the popular vote amongst ten people. I refined the design a little by taking away the “snow caps”, because they weren’t really needed. It took awhile and a lot of work to get the image guide box to look even on all sides.

TITLE Web PageDescription:This is a web page explaining my logo I created for the stationery project.

Date:11/21/2015

Course:Comm 130 Section 7Ben Pingel

Programs:Text Wrangler Photoshop

Objective:-Create a webpage using HTML and CSS that describes how I created my logo

Process:After creating all the HTML I inserted the pre-made CSS document from the practice into my page and created the changes to make my site look presentable. I took the colors from my logo and used them as the background and text colors to help bring the whole page together.I changed the fonts so that they were simple and so they were fonts that almost every computer has and set up backup fonts in case someone doesn’t have one of the origi-nal fonts. It was difficult to get the logo so that it wasn’t right on the borders but once I finally figured it out it looked more put together.

TITLE FlierDescription:Black and White flier to promote an activity on campusDate:10/2/2015

Course:Comm 130 Section 7Ben Pingel

Programs:Adobe InDesign

Objective:Apply the FOCUS design principles that we learned in class to create a basic design.

Process:I first sketched out four concepts with the same information just in different layouts. Then I picked one of the four sketches and used it as a guide to create this layout in Adobe InDesign. I used the bold title and bold rectangle to help bring the boldness of the image from the bottom all the way through to the top. I left white space around the school logo so that way it stands out and on its own so people know it is a school sponsored activity.

TITLE Event AdDescription:Create a full-color bleed using only Microsoft Word

Date:10/10/2015

Course:Comm 130 Section 7Ben Pingel

Programs:Microsoft Word

Objective:-Find and scan an image-Create a full-bleed in Word -Insert and Edit the image in Word

Process:I scanned the buffalo image, and then in Word used the corrections to brighten the scanned image just a little. I added two boxes for the information and lines to create a repetition in the flier. I decided on a monochromatic color scheme of blue because it is a cool color and adding warm colors to an ad about exploring Yellowstone in winter would not make sense. I chose two fonts that complement each other look more. I have never used Word before to make any sort of design and I was actually impressed with how much you can actually do.

TITLE ImagingDescription:Demonstrate good photography and editing skills using Photoshop. Incorporate color into a poster layout with original photo taken.

Date:10/17/2015

Course:Comm 130 Section 7Ben Pingel

Programs:Adobe Photoshop

Objective:-Learn basic photography and editing skills-Learn how to match color schemes to the images used

Process:I decided on a message first and then went out to take a picture that would help show the message. When I went to take a picture I found a white rose which symbolizes remembrance. I used a Cannon camera from the library to take the picture. After I took the picture I brought it into Photoshop and edited the levels, sharpness, saturation, and color balance. After that I designed an 8.5x11 layout that included my photo, text, repeating design elements, my color scheme, and color names into my design. To get the colors to to match the image more accurately I used the eye dropper to pull colors into my swatch. I used boxes to add repetition and a place for the color scheme to be placed.
