  • CLIENT PROFILE FATHER: Gobind Choudhary Disciplined, business oriented, likes to keep his space very organized. MOTHER: Sunita Choudhary Responsible, cleanliness freak, wants her space neat and clean. ELDER BROTHER: Aman Choudhary Sincere, dedicated towards studies, needs ample book storage ME: Palak Choudhary Messy, organised in my own way YOUNGER BROTHER: Radhesh Choudhary Very messy, not organized at all. Needs an organized space of his own My current residence is divided into public and private spaces verQcally. The rst oor has private spaces wheras the ground has a horizontal gradaQon from public to private. The lobby, which acts as the family lounge, is the most used area. The double height above the lobby has a sky light which provides ample natural light for the whole house. The lobby is close to the kitchen and also has a television. It is used as a dining space as well

AIM: To make a detailed CAD plan of our current residence and to analyze it on the basis of spaQal parameters PROCESS: Studying the usage of each area, dividing it into zones. Also analyzing the furniture of each area on the basis of principles of design. LEARNING OUTCOME: A residence is always divided into public and private spaces. The public spaces are placed near the entry as it is convenient for the guests to use. Usually the kitchen acts as a division between the public and private spaces. A space can be enhanced by using the right principles of design. Clearance plays an important role in the placement of furniture

  • MOVEMENT

Because of the horizontal there is a clear horizontal movement

There is a similar movement on both the floors

  • FORM AND SPACE

The over all form is very similar on the ground and first floor

The spaces are placed around the negative space formed in the middle

A clear circulation is formed in the middle and the emphasis is laid on that

There is a sense of rhythm and harmony on the ground floor

The first floor is asymmetrical and imbalanced

Dining room clear circulation on one side

There is a great circulation problem cause in

    between the console and table

The cabinets on the console cannot be opened if the

    table is being used

The size of table corresponds the size of the

room creating balance, but the placement of the console makes it crowded

lobby A balance is being created with the wall of

the puja room, however the console should be in front of the table to create a balance in the lobby

There is a circulation issue between the sofa and the table

Grand parents room Its centrally laid

    Has clear circulation

The washing area in the kitchen has space for only one person

There is a sense of movement and harmony in the kitchen

The puja room cannot accommodate more than

Guest room The horizontal axis divides it into 2

Circulation is affected when the study

  • PROJECT BRIEF

DESIGN BRIEF SPACES TO BE INCLUDED ENTRANCE FORMAL LOUNGE DINING KITCHEN FAMILY LOUNGE

Formal lounge Used for formal guests. Its placed near the entrance so the access is straight. There is a seaQng for 15 and has an opening to the garden. Its on the front faade, so there is ample natural light. Problem: No problem Dining Used when guests come at home its adjacent to the formal lounge and very near to the kitchen. Problem: there is very less movement space and there is no natural light SoluQon: changing the placement of the room and also increasing it.

POOJA ROOM GRANDPARENTS ROOM MASTER BEDROOM ELDER BROTHERS ROOM YOUNGER BROTHERS ROOM STUDY Kitchen

There is a good work triangle and ample space Problem: there is very less natural light SoluQon: adding windows

Family Lounge There a double height space which makes the space look bigger. Its near to the kitchen and is placed in the the centre. Problem: there is a lot of heat because of the the sky light SoluQon: removing the skylight

Pooja room The pooja room is placed near the kitchen Problem: there is a lot of heat because of the the sky light SoluQon: removing the skylight

Master Bedroom The pooja room is placed near the kitchen Problem: there is a lot of heat because of the the sky light SoluQon: removing the skylight

The project was to design a space (residence) in accordance with our family needs. While redesigning, we were supposed to incorporate the learning from the two analysis before. Finally a sketch up model was to be made in the end

  • BUBBLE DIAGRAM

Before being given the area of the plot, we were asked to make bubble diagrams. A bubble diagram is the best way to iniQally explore possibiliQes. It does not conne you to four walls and can ow in any direcQon. The bubble diagram helped us to divide the spaces according to levels. It also denes the placement and relaQonship of the spaces. LEVEL WISE DIVISION OF SPACES. GROUND FLOOR: Formal lounge, dining and powder room; kitchen and puja room; family lounge, grandparents room and entrance to the den. FIRST FLOOR: Master bedroom, elder brothers room, younger brothers room and study

  • PROS A huge buer space at the

    entrance The kitchen divides the

informal and formal lounge A good dining, living and

powder room relaQonship Division of zones: public and

private The stairs are near the

    private zone

CONS The pooja room is not

placed according to vastu The kitchen and puja

should be closer No dened entry,

    entrance directly to the house

    PROS Huge buer space which

divides the sibling room and the master bedroom.

The stairs are coming from the courtyard

    CONS The buer area covers

    more space than the rooms

Less rooms as compared to the ground oor

    FINAL BUBBLE DIAGRAM

  • SCHEMATIC ZONING

Aoer the bubble diagram exercise we received the structural plan of the area we had to re design. The structural grid consisted of predened beams and columns. It also had predened shaos. Our design was supposed to correspond to this grid. We started with hand drawn rough layouts and then proceeded to CAD drawings. The placement and relaQonship of the spaces were decided by the bubble diagram but the axis, movement and principles of design were the main objecQve of this exercise.

    STAGGERED ENTRANCE CENTRAL AXIS

  • DESIGN DEVELOPMENT

One of the layout was nalized and we started pupng furniture in it and applying the principles of design.

The columns in the middle break the alignment

The puja room is not according to the vastu

The puja room is small and is surrounded by the stairs

The space is aligned to the columns. There is not a good relaQon between

kitchen and puja. The puja room is small and is

surrounded by the stairs The beams are not aligned to the

    wall parQQons

Alignment with columns and beams The puja kitchen relaQonship is solved

  • 3D PAPER MODEL

    GROUND FLOOR

FIRST FLOOR NORTH (FRONT) FAADE WEST FAADE

    EAST FAADE SOUTH FAADE

The objecQve of a 3D model was to check the placement of the windows and to see the alignments on both the levels It gave a more realisQc idea of the whole space. The parQQons and treatment of walls became clearer.

  • REM APPLICATION

The reasearch that we did on our family for REM played an important part in the nal plan. We had to make use of the characterisQcs of our family in determining the placement of spaces. Vastu plays an important role in my family. The pooja

room is on the east faade in accordance with vaastu. The pooja room is not suppose to have construcQon

on top of it so a double height is created. Being on the East faade it receives good morning light. A sky light is created on the double height. There is also an entry to the exterior which makes the morning puja easier

The kitchen is also supposed to be on the East faade. It is placed adjacent to the puja room as food is oered to God before being eaten by the rest of the family.
