the urban supermarket is an emerging building typology that is gaining increasing attention as urban centers are revitalizing. the ‘big box’ typology typically associated with supermarkets must be compressed and adapted for a setting with much stricter spatial limitations, without compromising the variety of choices demanded by the typical patron.

as it exists, piazza tevere is uninviting, inaccessible, and uncomfortable. these issues have been addressed in one bold move: bridging the vertical and horizontal gap between the fabric of rome and piazza tevere, creating an inviting, multi-use space that is easily accessible.
rome, italy
the proposed interventions break the monotony that has become a prevelant phenomenon along the tiber river. this recreational, ecological, and cultural space provides year-round access to a part of rome that has long been denied its full potential.
