My diploma pro-posal is located near Sibiu’s historical center and aims to satisfy both the architectural and cultural demands of a location that of a location that connects the old city center with the newer neighborhoods. Also another aim of the project is creating a coherent approach to the existing space.the existing space. The elements that generated the solution are: the old city wall made of brick and built by the Habsburgs in the eighteenth

century, the pedestrian and automobile flows that intersect the site and the existing green area similar to a ribbon boarding the north eastern side of the site.eastern side of the site. The topic of my diploma - Visual Arts Center - was influenced by several cultural events like: Sibiu being named Cultural European Capital in 2007, the Capital in 2007, the International Theatre Festival Radu Stanca and the International Astra Film Festival (both of them taking place in Sibiu).
The aim of my solution is turning an incoherent space into a space that can bring benefits to the area and can be of use to the community. The central element of the central element of the composition is the theater. The theater is the element that influences the adjoining spaces and is emphasized by the “line” of vegetation that “line” of vegetation that is taken and continued from the site and stops in the volume of the theater thus generating circulations, connexions and interest points.
The city of Hermannstadt was mentioned for the first time in an official document in the year 1366. It has an important economical activity in the middle ages. In the XVI th and XVII th centuries there are several military conflicts in the area and when the Austrian army defeats the Turks Transilvania becomes part of the Habsburg Empire and Hermanstadt becomes Transylvania’s capital. The city’s Hermanstadt becomes Transylvania’s capital. The city’s name officially changes from Hermanstadt to Sibiu in the year 1909.

My project has a simple approach – intermodal transport terminal. The subject was influenced by the rapid development of the different means of public transport and by the problems related to comfort and functionality. I chose an organic shape aiming to reinterpret the most common natural element situated near and onmost common natural element situated near and on my site: the tree. The roof of the terminal is inspired by the protective nature of trees following the trunk and branches and expressing then through different curves that represent the process of growth in nature : from the inside to the outside.

Starting from the initial form of the structural membrane that is the main subject of this project I concluded that the best solution is a wooden lamellar structure consisting of wooden beams intersecting after a hexagonal pattern.

“Today in such chaos might be found, however, precisely in our cities greatest wealth; within this fragmented complexity that defines them can be seen, in effect, the potential for a future quality.” (J.NEUTELINGS, 1990)
The solution endeavours to create an urban insertion based on a characteristic feature of Bucharest: layer overlapping. Present-day cities are not enclosed and well-defined areas, but combinations of multiple fragments, a collection of individual pieces without any visible cohesion and the only factor of continuity, in its case, is not determined by the shape of the buildings but by the networks that articulate them and their backdrop. Bucharest is not a homogenous city, but rather a melting-pot of historical eras and architectural styles. Instead of regarding this as a setback, we have considered it to be the context that needs to be comprehend and worked with.

The leading principle of the project was creating modular composition ranging on three levels of complexity: different fragments will mingle/alternate based on rules dictated, generally, by the context. The backbone of the square is made up of an orthogonal lattice, orientated so as to emphasize the historical axis of the area (presently known as Toma Caragiu Street). The lattice is composed of modular elements (0.5m/2m) and it was used for the entire area. The variation of the elementstextures makes up the basis for an apparently organic pattern, which however is derived from a complex rule which allows for a gradual dicomplex rule which allows for a gradual differentiation of the square’s fragments without emphasizing any one of them.

The memoirist character of the area is emphasized by a visual run made up of three digital screens located along the main pedestrian line. These screens overlay old photographs of the area in former representative historical periods. The screens will be occasionally used as info-points, presenting a short historical review of the area, temporary exhibitions etc.the area, temporary exhibitions etc. The ruins of the Saint Sava Church have beekept visible, preserved behind glass panels.

Trees and shrubs are pollution - resistent and urban stress-resistent. For enhanced dynamism we have proposed several textures wich fit in the sites character, seeking spectacular through colors, keeping folliage durring the entire year (in certain areas), thus creating a dynamic and functional space.

The materials used in the projects are textured and coloured concrete, wooden slab pavement, ecological grass-slabs and also, “ecogrid” type turf -short fine grass. The tall vegetation remains within the height limits of the original square, and is thus well integrated to its context. The line of trees on the sidewalk adjacent to the University was filled in and mirrored on the opposite side of Queen Elisabeth Boulevard, and mirrored on the opposite side of Queen Elisabeth Boulevard, consisting of Fraxinus Excelsior trees.

The project represents an entry for the contestorganized for an extension of the national library in Cluj – Napoca , Romania. The challenge of the project was harmonizing the new insertion with the already existing historical building of the library and an extension built in the seventies. We chose a functional approach and proposed a simple volume that can be easily related visually to both of the existing buildings. The shape and volume is similar to the one of the extension from 1970 and the registries of the façade respect the rhythm of the historical building.
Thus, the site location, color and shape determined a simple and compact volume that can easily be related to the context. The elements that generated the solution are easily discernible and are easily discernible and emphasize the passing of time. The materials used do not imitate the old ones but have a similar image unity to the whole composition.

The house is situated in the central part of Austria in Goleralm (Entmißl) and is part of a typical rural mountain household. It is approximately 150 years old. Its initial use was
that of a stable for animals but in the present time because it no longer has this use the client wishes to turn it into a little chill out space for the holydays that can also be used to accommodate occasional guests. accommodate occasional guests.
For this project I collaborated with Sven Design and our aim was to preserve and to highlight the old and valuable elements but also to reconvert the interior space in a functional way.

PARK(ING) DAY
Participants: Bubu, Alina Dumitru, Silviu Olteanu, Dragos Toader, Anamaria Valcoreanu
The aim of Parking Day is to support the activation of the public space in Bucharest through pop up like interventions that have minimal costs and maximum effect. Our proposal wants to emphasize the need for special furniture that can support a more relaxed attitude in the public space and relaxed attitude in the public space and explores the use of simple and ecological materials. Parking day took place in Bucharest in the 14 th of September and was supported by Radio France International.
LUXURY BLUE The installation was located in Vienna at the intersection of Brunnengasse and Neulerchenfelderstrasse where originally was situated the fountain of Joseph which suffered in the fire of 1785. In 1786 Kaiser I king allowed public acces to this source of drinking water that officially this source of drinking water that officially belonged only to the noblemen and royalty. The water reached Ottakring through a pipe, a fact that was considered a luxury at that time.
The sculpture situated in Yppenplatz is an installation made from 3,516 plastic bottles that contained mineral water. We wanted so emphasize the importance of water both in the present and in the future.Having a length of 6 meters and 2 meters height, the installation is intended to raise height, the installation is intended to raise awareness of the limits of the planet's most valuable resources, water. in participation with

MODELS
Project - Mihaela SpranceanaModel - Silviu Olteanu
First phase diploma year 2006
This is one the first models I have made. It is fabricated from 5 millimeter layers of plexiglas that are milled, polished and glued together. All the elements are handmade.
The buildings are made of balsa wood laser cut after the form of the buildings from the site's plan. The art center is also made from laser cut balsa and covered with white paint. The base of the model is made of one llayer of extruded polystyrene (5 centimeters) and several other layers of 2 millimeter polystyrene. All the polystyrene layers were cut and polished after the site's outline and after that covered with white putty that was also polished and in the end covered with whiwith white water based paint.
