When I create, I tend to look around for inspiration. Everyday things inspire me; music, books, nature, people, buildings. The simple things

in life. My work tends to follow the same track. Simple, yet different. I tend to see lines wherever I look, it’s simply where my eye is

drawn, and tends to reect throughout my style. Life is full of different vibes, and we are constantly chnging as people. How we dress,

what we like, our appearance, therefore why shouldnt design style change as well?

BEASTlogo design & branding

P R O J E C T This is a branding project for a f ict ional skateboard and sur f company cal led Beast. The logo was designed af ter a doodle, using l ines and dif ferent designs to create a interest in charac-ter ful l of energy. The logo was then used to create merchan-dise for the company that ref lects the same sty le. The color scheme is l imi ted to more cool colors, s taying away from the more common warm colors associated with skateboarding and sur f ing companies.

INTERVIEW WITH JAMIE ANDERSON

5 BEST SLOPES OF 2011-2012

INTIMATE HISTORY OF SNOWBOARDING

ARTIST OF THE MONTH: JOHN BALESSARI

171218

O VER ALL , SNOWBOARDING HAS BEEN A VERY FAST GROWING SPORT . B UT IT DID HAVE A ROCKY BEGINNING . T HE HISTORY OF SNOWBOARDING , HOWEVER , TELLS THE STORY OF HOW THE SPORT WAS EVOLVED FROM A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT

HUMAN NEED . Many people didn’t like snowboarding because snowboarders were mostly

teenage males, and they were crazy on their boards. It started a prejudice among

people that snowboarders are drug addicts and snowboarding is not a decent

sport. Discrimination against them brought friction and, for a time, and the future

of snowboarding was in jeopardy. The ski industry was vigilant about two things

at the time: tight pants and skier safety; snowboarding would not meet either of

these criteria. This rebel reputation is still common today in spite of the fact that

snowboarding appeals to men, women, and children of all nationalities and social groups.

SHAWNEE MOUNTAINHollow Rd.

Shawnee-on-Delaware, PA 18356

www.shawneemt.com

Shawnee Mountain makes it easier to get away from

job. Both lodges have boosted their Wi-Fi service,

which allows skiers to connect faster, work faster

between runs, and get back on the slopes faster.

Also look for “ballroom” conditions on the mountain

due to upgraded snowmaking, new snow CATS and

new groomers. And the rental shop has gotten a

big boost as well with the addition of 350 new sets

of high performance skis and 350 state-of-the-art

snowboards. The shop can now outfit 4,000 skiers

and riders a day.

CAMELBACK MOUNTAINOne Camelback Rd.

Tannersville, PA 18372

www.skicamelback.com

High-fliers will hit a soft landing this season with

the installation of a giant “Air Bag” on the main

terrain park at Camelback. This lets riders expand

no matter how they come down. It’s a chance to try

jumps that create Olympic fantasies. The terrain park

will also unveil cutting-edge rails, boxes and bonks

to challenge snow surfers and freeskiers. Finally,

fifty new hi-tech snowguns have been added to the

Camelback snowmaking arsenal for more powder-

like snow, even in marginal conditions.

JACK FROST & BIG BOULDEROne Jack Frost Mountain Road

Blakeslee, PA 18610

www.jfbb.com

Sister resorts Jack Frost and Big Boulder in the

western Poconos will be moving to a salsa beat this

season: The popular Alpine Lounge at Boulder has

morphed into the new T-Bar, with stunning views of

the slopes and some of the areas hottest bands and

brews on tap every Saturday from 4 to 8 p.m. and

on holidays. Check out the new features for riders in

both the Frost and Boulder terrain parks this season,

too; it’s all spelled out at www.jfbb.com, where you’ll

also find new interactive trail maps that you can

customize with your own photos and videos. Be part

of the action and the display!

SNO MOUNTAIN1000 Montage Mountain Rd.

Scranton, PA 18507

www.snomtn.com

One of the most popular racing programs in the

country returns to Sno Mountain every Saturday

and Sunday this winter. Anyone can sign up to blast

through the gates in NASTAR racing, where you’ll

run a standard course (with a handicap system)

that allows a skier to compare his or her results with

competitors across the nation. The entry cost is $5

for two runs or $10 for 4-1/2 hours of racing. The

course is open weekends from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

ELK MOUNTAIN344 Elk Mountain Rd.

Union Dale, PA 18470

www.elkskier.com

One of the most enduring traditions at Elk Mountain,

set high in the Endless Mountains of northeast

Pennsylvania, has been the rustic, fireplace-warmed

picnic lodge slopeside. For decades, families have

been making their “first run on skis” carrying picnic

baskets and coolers to the lodge for storage until

lunch time.

This season, the lodge has gotten a facelift with

some remodeling, brand new flooring and a fresh

coat of paint. On the slopes and trails, snowmaking

has been enhanced with the addition of new “airless”

snow guns and a swarm of snow gun pedestals on

the popular Lenape, Wissahickon and Snow Bowl

trails. Elk also continues its contributions to the

environment—they’ve planted an additional 1,200

Norway and White Spruce trees that have enhanced

the scenic vistas on those long cruising trails.

JAMIE ANDERSON ( BORN SEPTEMBER 13, 1990) IS AN AMERICAN SNOWBOARDER FROM SOUTH LAKE TAHOE .

Jamie Anderson has built a reputation as the most solid Slopestyle rider in the

business with her raw talent and exceptional style and versatility of tricks. She has

been one of the most successful female snowboarders on the Swatch TTR World

Snowboard Tour so far. Jamie Anderson kills—no doubt about it. She’s good in the air,

on rails, she’s calm in the contest pressure cooker and she appreciates a good pow

Open this season. At the Open, she got knocked the F out in the rail jam and still won

it! Jamie is a badass and it’s a mystery of marketing how this girl is riding around right

now with no board sponsor. She’s one of the best female riders in the game—surely,

she’ll have a new ride under her feet before long. Until then, she’ll be taking laps.

What was the highlight of your season so far?Probably our OneLife trip to Spain and Andorra. We

had the best crew, met some of the coolest people and

really just had a lot of fun!

What’s the worst slam you’ve taken this season?

just sent it and went huge! I wasn’t able to compete at

that event, which definitely sucked, but I’m super stoked

I didn’t get seriously hurt! I also got crashed into at the

US open rail jam and got knocked out—that sucked too!

What was the best run you stomped?A run: Back 5, Switch Back 5, Front 7, Back 1, cab 7…

best day ever shredding Breckenridge with my friend

Sarka Pancochova.

How do you keep the fear from creeping in?I try to think positively…

Does your snowboarding complicate or compliment your love life? Both!

What’s the worst interview question you’ve ever been asked (beside the “love life” one above)?

Any unfulfilled shred fantasies? There’s this mental pillow line in Tahoe that I really want

illegal because its above a highway, haha. I also would

love to dial in a legit pipe run!

What do you think about new helmet laws being debated for riders under 18?I went through a phase of not liking helmets at all. But

after I got knocked out cold, not wearing one, it makes

me want to wear one all the time! And I think everyone

should! This sport is dangerous!

0403

What inspires you outside snowboarding?Music. I’ve been hanging out with

some musicians the last few weeks

and it’s really inspiring!

And what about in snowboarding?Riding backcountry. I’m such a park

rat nowadays that when I get the

chance to go ride powder I get so

unique features.

What is disappointing to you in snowboarding right now?Me not having a board sponsor!

And what is epic?Riding a 4-foot pow day at my

home mountain—Sierra At Tahoe—

on April 5th! I love home!

Last words?Go for it. One Life, Live it up!
