Unity. Basic principle.

Model#1

4

Unity creates an integrated image in

which all the elements are working together to support the

design as a whole. A unified design is

greater than the sum of its parts; the

design is seen as a whole first, before

the individual elements are noticed . Unity can be compared to

harmony, integrity or wholeness.

Design theory describes unity as the

way in which the different elements of

a composition interact with one

another. A unified layout is one that works as a whole rather than

being identified as separate pieces.

We decided to use repetition and proximity in order to achieve unity

in our design.

After long discussions, and collaboration

with my group we have

decided that our

design is going to response

to the ledge and

water tower was chosen as a focal point.

Focal point What makes design be interesting and unique?

Basically, a focal point will attract interest and

attention in any design object. It is something that will draw

people’s eyes and impress them with the beauty of design. It can also

create a certain mood or theme that will define the design.

• Final decision. Concepts

The final decision was very hard. We argued and discussed a lot, and

finally we decided to choose my final model as a concept of our

installation’s design. Following Experiential Nodal Environment Types:

were chosen:

Mysterious & Magical ,

Tantalizingly

Threatening,

A Place to Enjoy a

Framed View that makes the mundane precious and

sacred.

Construction

Let’s get it started!

We have summarized availability, expenses, and associated human resources

related to any sets of materials and tools that may be used for the

installation, and we decided that we would use wood as a basic material.

We Identified areas of responsibilities and allocated to appropriate member of

the team, that is why we didn’t have any misunderstandings among group

members. 10

The main issue ,that bothered us was soil. It took a lot of energy to install the

frame constructions. The supporting construction was the first step to achieve stability of our installation.

Juror’s respond The feedback from judges was amazing. Jurors found our installation

complex and unique. They noticed our use of linear objects in order to

create curvilinear structure. However they noticed that framed view could

be more seamlessly integrated. The blue detailed caps do not fit our

design. The part that goes over the wall needs to be better integrated to

design.

Weaknesses

Design parts should be better

integrate to the whole design;

Organization of details

Strengths

Correspondence to the site;

Framed view;

Focal point;

Reflect narratives of the

human condition;

Provoke others to appreciate everyday aspectsof place

Conclusion

My advise

16

Thank you for your attention,

Xenia.

Dear incoming ARCH 101 students, I would like to advise you to be creative. Creativity is a key to successful projects.

Moreover, by bringing all key role players into the group, social,

economic and design aspects can be evaluated holistically.

Likewise, creative techniques commonly used in value analysis such

as morphological analysis, brainstorming and random word

technique could be valuable in

transforming the identified

priority functions into a

new reality. I enjoyed my first

Architecture Studio and I would

like to say thank you to Professor

Lum, who was helping us in our

learning Process.
