site location and analysisThe project developed as the final thesis consisted on two different parts. On the one hand a new urban plan for La Verneda , an industrial neighborhood in Barcelona, was designed. This new area, which is 66.236 m2 size, had to be provided with different type of dwellings, high quality public spaces which contribute to improve the neighbors life conditions due to the lack of public parks, and new public facilities, a new library, a new market place and a old people house were also planned. On the other hand, I chosed to develop the project for a new market place. In our Mediterranian culture these places have become new centers, gathering places and the new engines generating activity within our cities. This new public building was meant to be completely associated to the public space and its hosting many different sort of stores and activities which will be very helpfull to improve the citizens lifestyles.

    THE HOLYFIELD getting the scale

The center is a place of divinity, it is where everything grows and becomes part of the earth. We establish 9 degrees to get the scale of our location

DEGREES AND AXIS relation with the divine

We dont take the different Holy Field degrees literally as a grid but us a way to get the scale of our project area. These different degrees help us to establish a relation between our plot scale and the different elements that are important within the city.

FIXING OUR TARGET the Summer Palace

We take the Summer Palace as the center of our new radial grid, degree 3 (holy field)These radius will help us to establish a visual relation with it, the most important landmark in our area.It shouldnt be understood as a rigid grid, but as a previ-ous step in order to control the traces and the direction-ality of our proposal

From Barcelonas proposal we take its functional structure and the preservation of those parts that are considered the most important and representative of this area. The water cannal and the well-preservated town are the main elements to keep with.

    THE 4 elements

    LAND&WATER searching for the harmony

Mixing land and water is the main purpose of our proposal. By doing this we try to create a permanent relation between our new public space and the Summer Palace.

    SCHEME IDEA a visual game

The tramway becomes a very important element in our design. Along this new axis are being sewn the different stripes or areas that com-pose our project. We think that getting on the tram should not be understood just like a way of transport but as a way to recognise the landscape, a kind of visual game

In our final proposal we pick different elements from both masterplans. We consider that creating new wetlands as preservation areas, the concern about taking the old wall as an edge, the ring-paths that connect the different spaces and the preservation of the existing hill are those elements that we must conservate from Tsinghuas design.

We think that the distance between the two tram stops that have been planned is not taking into account the human scale. In our opinion, this is a place that should belong to people. Thats why we think that and intermediate tram stop should be built, in order to reduce the walking distances within the park. This new stop is located in one of the main crosses of our designed axis. The other two stops we suggest are related to the bus stop and the northern edge of our area

At the moment we were designing the new topography we were absolutely sure that this should be the main element of our proposal. According to that, our design should be understood by taking a look to the traces of our new ranges of hills. We established first the position of the highest tops and after that we created slopes with different proportions and angles depending on what the function of each of the mountain sides was. We used 1:2 for non accesible slopes, 1:3 for those sides that are conduting the water to the wetlands and 1:4 for smooth slopes.

context and location winter conditions natural heating systemThe plot is located in Mallorca, more especifically close to Sller in a little town called Banyalbufar, facing the sea and at the northern side of Serra de Tramuntana, the highest mountain in the island. The Marjades become an important element within the area. These artifitial stairs built in order to settle the existing harvests will be completely integrated in our proposal.

In the begining the house was not meant to be used during the winter so, in order to improve its thermical conditions we decided to enclose some of the patios by building up a new glass perimeter. This new spaces might be receiving the sun heat during the day and transmitting the warm air to the inside rooms and the living areas during the night through the different existing doors and windows.

In order to adapting the house to the rough winter conditions we suggest the following interventions:

1-Reduce the extreme ventilation by including a new glass encloser underneath the pergola.2-Creating new spaces enclosed by glass which will help to increase the solar gain during the day and spread the head to the inner rooms during the night.3-Including solar pannels on the pergola

In another hand, the pergola is covered by plants in order to protect and control the solar gain during the summer. Some windows will be included on the glass layer as well to provide enough ventilation during the hot summer months.

    TRAIN PLAN

The goal of the project was designing a new urban plan for the city of Barcelona by introduc-ing the same grid and road structure used in Manhattans city plan.Taking into account the same existing elements that Ildefons Cerd considered and kept with to design the Eixamples plan in 1959, we paid special attention on mantaining and fitting our new proposal with the existing old town and the surrounding villages. Considering the existing topography was also helpful to define the new borders of our new city plan.

Our design establishes two main axis within the city structure. Both Meridiana and Parallel avenues are currently the main entrances to the city by crossing through the two river valleys, so we consider that our project should consider these two main directions. On the one hand, this strategy allows our plan to be extended in the future to the surrounding areas and on the other hand its very well orientated in order to provide every single block by solar lighting.Once we developed the new grid, the aim of the project was also developing a new infra-structre strategy to improve the transport system.

The aim of the project is designing a new public space along the beach of Piscinas, a little town close to Cagliari. The existing hotel becomes one of the main elements of our project and the proposal pretends to provide this existing building with new light structures that will helps to increase the tourist activity by generating some new services, a cable car station which connects to Montevechio, a surfing school and some shades that people will be able to use as resting areas.
