I.  Bachelor Apartment II.  Maloney Home III.  Lightning Redefined IV.  The Gem Hotel V.  Circle Auto Leasing Commercial

Page 3: Portfolio

The beach style bachelor apartment in NYC portrays inspiration from the beach and the waves created by the ocean. This created a soft and

relaxing, yet adventurous atmosphere for the client. Color Palette includes neutral colors to maintain a brightness, along with window-

filled walls in unique shapes to welcome the maximum amount of natural sunlight. All furniture in the apartment is custom and designed personally, bringing more character into the space and a “beachy” feel.

In the kitchen and dining area, Mother of Pearl covers the walls, encouraging a subtle, yet beautiful contrast. Bringing in counter tops, Cavalete Granite was chosen to bring in natural colors, while at the same time adding a darker pop. Cream Lacquered cabinetry covers the walls and window areas, allowing to keep the room bright. Spreading across the floors of the rooms is a white wood, while not perfectly colored to allow for a more natural look.

This project suits a family of four, looking for an appealing and creative lighting system in their home. The design was inspired by a photo seen of

wall panels that, when opened by hand, contained light behind. The photo encouraged the theme of creative lighting and having the

complete ability to change the lighting in each atmosphere to each individual’s liking. The patterns on the ceiling of each room are

suspended wooden panels. With the flip of a switch, the recessed lighting is exposed from the panels chosen to omit light.

Living Room

The living room in the Maloney family home is the feature room of the house. With a balcony overlooking from the second floor, controllable wall panels spread up from the floor and across the ceiling, wrapping through the upstairs hallway and back out into the foyer. This feature wall portrays the entire homes theme through light control, where each square can be opened and closed to expose as much light necessary for the occupants

Daughter’s Bedroom

The daughter’s room was specially designed to be a fun, beautiful space for a young girl to be able to grow up in. The room features shades of orange and shades of pink, while offering some contrast with white lacquered wood furniture. The main feature of the room, however, is seen when looking overhead. A series of dropped light panels hug the entire ceiling, while revolving around a center flower-shaped panel that holds an elegant chandelier.

Office

Mr. Maloney’s office design and ceiling pattern follow a path to the staircase leading to Mrs. Maloney’s top floor studio. A wood floor path moves along the left side of the room, while the office desk and chairs are settled on a beige carpet, creating a more comfortable workspace. Both chairs are covered with soft leather, and a large bookcase is built into the wall under the staircase, framed in wood.

The concept behind the “Lighting Redefined” fixture is to express the beauty in nature’s lightning. It is often hard to admire something that can be dangerous. In having this in a light fixture, one can stand back,

and admire the beauty that lightning can be.

The Gem Hotel, serving three other areas of New York, purchased Diane Von Furstenberg’s headquarters in the meatpacking district. The building was converted into a unique hotel with all room shapes

revolving around the grand staircase that the client wished to keep in place. Building off of the oddly angled stairs, the different shapes of each

guest room inspired the concept of the kaleidoscope. Aside from providing hotel services, The Gem Hotel also includes a public restaurant

and bar.

Using a combination of blue fabrics and leathers for furniture, and subtle yet stunning wall coverings in the Gem Hotel lobby, it offers an inviting space for guests to check in or lounge

The feature wall divides the guest lobby from the public bar and restaurant, but allows access through double doors built to blend in with the design of the wall. This door only allows entry into the guest lobby with a key card.

The bar area of Restaurant Gem is, along with the other furniture pieces, misshaped, creating a unique and appealing look for public guests. Bar walls are covered in simple beadazzle, while the countertop surrounding the bar is a beautiful blue onyx.

Restaurant Gem provides glass top tables that coordinate with the lobby’s feature wall and the unique shapes of all rooms in the hotel. Walls are covered in a Beadazzled texture with gold leafing settling underneath.

Doors to guest rooms are automatically opened with the insertion of key cards. Beds are custom made and ceiling mounted, and adjustable wall panels can be used to enclose the bathroom to each guests’ liking.

While each guest floor provides a different color theme, all include leather chairs in addition to soft fabrics for bedding. All bathrooms are covered in White Carrara, while a simple beige carpet brings warmth and comfort to each space.

In December of 2014, I worked as the set designer for a Circle Auto Leasing Commercial. The commercial was shot by Lucky 8 Media in a New York

City apartment that was occupied. For the set design, I had to use furniture and accessories already existing in the occupant’s apartment.

For each different shot, I moved pieces around to occupy space in the frame, leaving no emptiness in camera view. I created props with the

resources given in the apartment (i.e. mugs of coffee, etc.).
