Det Umuliges Mulighed
By Cecilie Waagner Falkenstrøm
My experience piece Det Umuliges Mulighed (The Possibility of the Impossible) explores what it means to be human captured in the intersection between possibility and impos-sibility. Through light, sound, smoke and tall video-projections I transformed the main stage at The Royal Danish Theatre into an experience where different layers of colors, shadows and forms emerge into a unity of becomingness (Picure 01+05).
As part of my creative proces I made a lot of tests experimenting with the cadmium yellow and the ultramarine blue’s different sensory and symbolic expressions with the intention to create a gap where the unexpected could emerge (Picture 02-06).

I worked a lot with the flow through the experience piece: On their way through the experience the visitors move between being back stage versus front stage and being observer versus being observed. In one moment you are a shadow, in another you are ob-server and in the moment to follow you are the one being observed (Picture 07+10+12+13+14).
By moving back and forth between different layers of possibility and impossibility the experience captures an instant in the intersection between transcendence and immanence. Balancing on the boundary of tempo-rality and timelessness you find yourself on the edge of reality (Picture 08).

Our experience piece, Urban Forest, rethinks the modern urban environment as a frame. Through light-, sound- and 30 meters tall video projections we transformed Copenhagen metro station’s cold atmosphere into an organic and calm space (picture 02-07).
Urban Forest became the biggest urban art project in 2010 in Copenhagen. It had an estimated value of 1,4 million pound. and was visited by 1,1 million citizens.
Cultural mayor Pia Allerselv opened Urban Forest and The Danish Royal Ballet performed an exclusive ballet in the experience piece (picture 16).

With takeoff in thoughts about postmodern humans disconnection with nature our first intention was to create an underground urban forest (picture 9+10) – accordingly the name Urban Forest. However, as we developed the project it became clear to us, that as postmodern humans it was our inner landscape that needed attention and transformation (picture 11-14).
An essential part of the Urban Forest project was an exploration of the net-work thought. Thus, Patrick and I enrolled 30 partners and 350 people, engineers, hardware companies etc., who con amore helped us create the experience.

Fællessalen in the heart of the Danish Parliament is normally a location where hectic political debates take place (picture 3+4). Patrick and I wanted to challenge the systems tendency to create power struggles by reframing the power-center into an atmosphere that encourages new thinking and cohesion (picture 1+2+5).
Gigantic colorful video projections enlighten the castle’s ceiling, sound waves embrace the room and a 9x5x3 meter pneumatic sculpture opens an inner spectacular universe fitting 30 people (picture 7). When entering the sculpture (picture 6+7) you are absorbed by an intense experience of a timeless moment in eternity.

Infinitum
Inspired by Goethe’s Theory of Colours and the symbolic and aesthetic qualities he linked with each color I developed a color flow (light and video) that moved from the deep colors of blue and green through yellow and orange and culminated in the highest color magenta. Hereby creating an experience-flow taking people through different emotional states. Ending in a culmination symbolized both by the magenta color and the atmosphere of eternity inside the sculpture.
The sensory flow moves back and forth between being and becoming, activity and passivity, yellow and blue, focus and defocus, hard and soft, major and mole, inhaling and exhaling. An “ad infinitum” movement and a movement into infinity.

The Tree
By artist Cecilie Waagner Falkenstrøm and architect Patrick Coard in collaboration with Dorte Mandrup Architects.
Our multidimensional exhibition piece at Louisiana turns the world upside down. Through mirrors, sculpture, light and sound the sensory experience takes you on an adventure into the yellow forest. An exploration of your inner unknown landscape.
The Three was exhibited at the exhibition Living at Louisiana, 01.06.2011- 23.10.2011. The exhibition Living was visited by more than 200.000 visitors.
Patrick and I, The Reframing Initiative, co-developed The Tree project together with Dorte Mandrup Architects.

Reflection
By Cecilie Waagner Falkenstrøm
In a series of videos and photos I explore the theme “Who am I?”. Playing with mirrors and movement I investigate the pre-given scenery in which life is set between time/temporality and timelessness. Trying to tear down the philosophical counter positioning between being and becoming the exploration plays with movement, dimensionality and essence.

Konstellation
By artist Cecilie Waagner Falkenstrøm and architect Patrick Coard,The Reframing Initiative
On invitation from Center for Cultural and Experience Economy and the Ministry of Culture Patrick and I developed the experience piece Konstellation. We played with obstructions and paradoxes as a method to let the unknown emerge.
Our experience piece Konstellation was exhibited at Reach Out at the National Gallery of Denmark (SMK). Our experience piece was visited by Cultural Minister Uffe Elbæk.

Intersection
By artist Cecilie Waagner Falkenstrøm and architect Patrick Coard,The Reframing Initiative
Inspired by the experience of walking through the historical caves of Kronborg Castle, the spectators find themselves in the intersection between the old and the new – the past and the present. A timeless being is awakening and the historical ties are emerg-ing into a modern world.
Intersection was exhibited in the world heritage site Kronborg Castle in the autumn 2011. The castle is known from Shakespeare’s Hamlet and counts 200,000 visitors each year.

Dream
By artist Cecilie Waagner Falkenstrøm and architect Patrick Coard,The Reframing Initiative
An organic pneumatic island covered in warm video projections and enchanted by a pleasant sound wave creates a timeless moment in the hectic urban environment. The experience piece invites you to let go of your stressful everyday life and let yourself be absorbed by the calm atmosphere and dream along - Stillness envelops the city.
