This research was a final coursework for the Advanced GIS class at Columbia University. It was then invited to present at a city-wide ESRI-sponsored professional roundtable. As further analyses get completed, the next step could be a marketing mobile application.
OBJECTIVES
(1) compute a quantitative index for each station in the networks(2) compare network features of two world-class subway systems(3) differentiate rather than generalize proximity to subway stops
METHODOLOGY (using ArcGIS and Urban Network Analyst tool)
(1) repair and construct network geometry for GIS analysis (2) model impedance parameters for the two subway networks (3) compute quantitative indices for 500+ station in the networks
CONTRIBUTION:
(1) provide valuable insights for retail investors and transit businesses, who are always interested in patronage flows(2) explore implications of these indices to underground networks

Having worked in rural Cambodia for several years, I find it ironic for foreign volunteers to teach world maps to rural children who have little chance of even leaving the village over their lifetimes.
I believe it is more practical and sensible for rural dwellers to navigate a map than to blindly remember country and city names.
OBJECTIVES
(1) Confer a practical use of geospatial skills to rural Cambodians(2) Conduct demographic profiling for our organization’s schools
METHODOLOGY
(1) Teach village school children to find their location on a map(2) Collect information on household assets and family members(3) Analyze student demography and socio-economic needs
While the collected data are not foolproof, they utilized geospatial knowledge in a client-oriented manner. It resolves the lack of a village census record and facilitates future school planning.
FINDINGS & ANALYSIS
Through a geography class, each student filled in a worksheet on household assets and identified their house from the village map.
