Benton Harbor’s Bread Basket Mixed Use Development
This is an urban renewal project. Our site is located in Benton Harbor, a city which was once well known as the bread basket of the United States but now known for it’s high poverty and Crime. This former fresh produce capital is located next to a wealthy city called St Jospeh Michigan. Due to racial tensions from the past these two cities have been distinctly seperating itself from each other. This project seeks to rejuvinate the com-munity by providing an opportunity for people to sell produce from the market and it also seeks to heal past racial wounds by creating a space that will be alive all year round, a space that
will be welcoming to people of alll classes and backgounds.
