INDEPENDENT PRACTICE....

.just lomo it!

Page 2: portfolio Independent Practice

In this unit you will be encouraged to continue to develop and extend your independent practice.

You will be encouraged to develop an awareness of your practice by the identification, definition and application of a range of historical and contemporary contexts and settings.

You are required to make informed critical evaluations of your work to date, identifying aspects that continue to interest you.

These must be appraised and framed within your growing awareness of the possible range of contexts for what you do, developing an individual and self-directed body of work.

You will be asked to find opportunities for investigation and will be encouraged to further express and explore ideas that work beyond the confines of a brief. This unit will require a written aspect, which will be refined throughout the unit and submitted with a personal evaluation at the end of the project. The conclusions you reach will help you to identify your interests and strengths in relation to contemporary culture and will form the basis of your independent practice as it develops.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

• Show that you have questioned methods, practices and themes that inform your practice.• Reflect on and make informed evaluations (both written and oral) of your work and others.• Identify the importance of the range of contexts in which your work can be posi-tioned.

INDEPENDENT PRACTICE

Content.

For my independent practice I will be carry on with my look into lomography, after taking pictures and creating an album of common object and moments I will now move on into an area that I am very interested in information graphics. With both areas I would like to create a small campaign to support the awareness of lomography as a whole and get more people to use them more.

Methods & practice

While continuing taking pictures over the summer for my collection I will keep doing that over the new term. Besides taking pictures I will start to illustrate the cameras and being to process ideas of designing posters to support my cause. Still playing around with the camera’s positions and the intake of light and just experiment with a few a things.

Context

To show this work I will upload onto my blog or flickr account both info graphics and photo’s. This will lead up to a final viewing of my portfolio with all the finish pieces and selected few of photos to show too. It would be nice to make a book on the whole experi-ence, like some sort of journal.

Terrain

I will look at lomography websites and look at artist who specialize it that area and try to get some tips and feedback from others.

A few scans of my doodles that I made in my note book showing the way I was thinking when I was attempt to come up with a logo design. Also other small Designs that I thought up which could relate to the brief.

The process of designing the lomo camera’s in illustra-tor, using the shape tool and manipulating them into the style of four cameras. These will be in the place of the camera when put into the design, I thought using something different and more of a illustrator look to it then a normal picture could

The first poster I design with the fisheye 2 placing it in the center, then surround-ing it with the logo I created and copied a few times to give it enough edge over the camera. In the right hand corner to you can see the original logo in clack and the words “ why not lomo it” under the fisheye.

The logo that was created by placing two L’s and copying it four times. Below is the back used on the first poster.

Some of the many photos I took while over summer and over this term, which I used different styles off shooting. I took upon many things to get different results and looks of the camera.

This is the concept of the website that will be supporting my cause of pushing the awareness of lomography. 14 pages in total with a home, camera, lomography, contacts and links pages to help our users with whatever they need.

Members can also sign up and upload their pictures to show mates and also show the lomo world. This also offers tips and advice.

To go with my website design I have also designed a 13 page booklet to help those who get lost when first starting out with one of the cameras. This guide is an easy step to step on how to get your self-sorted out and on your way to take pictures.

For the independent project it was a chance to improve on my own skills and work and show how i developed and grew in this brief. For my own work i choose to do a range of information graphics on lom-ography. After looking at different web sites on the camera’s and style of works that can influence me to design different layouts of info graphics. The project helped me develop a more stronger skill with illustrator and Photoshop, with sorting out new ways to create in a faster better way.

Taking new styles of photo’s in positions that i don’t normally do and attempting to develop the film to get new and exciting effects.shown in my folder i believe now i have got a range of new ideas that can help in future projects.

working on information Graphics makes me want to continue to do more design relating to it, challenging myself with new styles and layouts of all sorts and pushing me to the edge.
