University of Tennessee Student Union - 350,000 sfThe Student Union is a response to the proposal by UT to destroy the Robert Church designed parking garage. Tasked with organizing 350,000 square feet of program and an intent to save this historic structure, we were paired into groups of three until we had an organizational strategy laid out, then broke into individuals. The Student Union proposal separates program into distinct bars and allows the hallways between to become like indoor streets for students to meander and socialize. A twist in the middle creates a point of entry and a separation between the administrative and student program.

Nashville Rowing Association Boathouse - 25,000 sfThe Nashville Rowing Association Boathouse is located on the east bank of the Cumberland River below the Korean Veterans Memorial Bridge. The project is divided into bars of program situated above the boat storage bays which are angled to aid the movement of the boats to both the trailers and the dock below. Clad in cedar paneling, the building has a breathable quality to ventilate the boat storage space. This project is part of the system integration curriculum at our college with a strong focus on sustainable design and detailing.

A New Modular Home for the Eastern Tennessee Vernacular - 1200-1800 sfThe New Modular Home for East Tennessee was a two stage project involving an in-depth group research portion to learn about the building techniques utilized in vernacular buildings, and the second portion was the design of a modular system which utilized these techniques for its construction. This scheme creates a system which allows the owner to order his own house shell based on a 4’ module which will accommodate his daily needs. For the specialized needs, specialized boxes of program such as the kitchen or bath are placed as a prefabricated module within the shell.

“Paint Space” Installation at UT Art+Architecture BuildingThe installation was a group design/build charrette done as a part of TAAST week to celebrate our community within the college. The project was designed as part of a Design/Build Charrette hosted by visiting lecturer Jef7rey Hildner. A group of seven students including myself discussed the theme of “Performance“ and came up with an interactive display that would display painted works and serve as a backdrop for daily life as well as impromptu performances. The structure was built with found aluminum channels, fabric and canvasses painted by the participants.

Painting and Graphic DesignThroughout my college career I have been involved in various side projects to make my education and involvement a little more varied. These works comprise the most recent of side projects done over the last two years.

For the Engage Logo I was selected by a close friend of mine to work with a group of 7 others to design the logo for his upcoming campaign for Student Government. The process was a long series of idea generation and tweaking each other’s ideas to arrive at the end result shown above. I was involved in design and late-phase photoshopping of the final product.

The iPd Logo seeks to combine the diverse heritage of volvo cars over the past 50 years with the modern look iPd is looking for to promote their company. I approached the project as a one day design charrette as I wanted to take as little time away from other projects as possible. I did not place in the competition.
