Architecture for living with dying and death: the design of a hospice and funerary complex in Halifax, NS

The proposed hospice and funerary complex seeks the opportunity for authentic experiences with the dying and recently deceased. It is hoped that such a complex would deepen the meaning of this universal human experience.

GRADUATE DESIGN STUDIO: Housing Infrastructure led by Catherine Venart, fall 2012

PROPOSALA land-stabilizing housing platform with waste and water collection systems.

Collecting ground and surface water could reduces erosion and landslides. And low-tech filters would make collected water potable.

The waste collection facility, run by residents, converts waste into high-grade fertilizer for local farmers.

Large populations now live in informal barrios, which lack running water, sewage treatment and are highly prone to landslides.
