ABOUT ME

I am a free and very curious spirit. That has led me to live in several places (Seville, Valencia, London, Barcelona, Quebec and Mexico) and explore different creative disciplines. Yes, I am one of those who want to do everything. I've painted in oil, I have been a video artist, photographer, stage director, designer and lately I have directed more strongly towards teaching and drawing.

This amount (freedom + curiosity) also explains that each of my drawings has a different style, character or topic. Kandinsky said: "There is no duty in art because art is free".I think so too and so I have decided to break free from the pressure to "find my own style" and not to limit or hold onto something, but to explore, have fun, to test my abilities, my versatility and my courage.

Diversity does not mean that there are not common features in my work. I like to build fictions that seem to be realities and I usually draw portraits, animals or monsters. I use digital techniques that allow me to test and make changes more easyly and I use ink or watercolor because I like spontaneity, immediacy and flowing without necessarily respond to an expected result. I tend to simplici-ty and in my drawings I can be sometimes elegant and poetic, sometimes impulsive or ironic. In any case, each drawing reflects one of the pieces in my puzzle.

STATEMENT

ABOUT ME

Seville, Spain (1980)Lives and works in Mexico City

My interest in drawing and painting led me to study Fine Arts at the University of Seville. However, the discovery of video art takes me to finish my studies at the Polytechic University of Valencia (UPV) where I specialized in multimedia. At the end I received a grant from INJUVE to work in the Department of Digital Art at the artistic production center Space Studios in London. I arrived in Barcelona in 2005 to study a Master of Digital Arts at UPF and lived there until 2011. That year I received a grant from FONCA for a residence in Mexico City where I made my project Virtualisis. That's when I decided to live in this city where I work as a free-lance illustrator, photographer and videographer. I also work as a teacher on workshops and courses like “Contenido para medios digitales” (Contents for digital media) at CENTRO and Multimedia production at EDINBA (Design School of the National School of Arts)

From 2013 to 2015 I lead with Manuel Díaz the brand Niños salvajes where we apply original drawings on different materials such as textiles and ceramics.

I have received several scholarships for further study and produc-tion of projects as Obra Social La Caixa , CoNCA (National Council of Culture and Arts of Catalonia) and Generalitat de Catalunya. The FONS07 scholarship allowed me to conduct an artist residen-cy at Art Center AXENEO7 (Québec ) In 2008 I received the award Creación Jovenfrom INJUVE (National Institute of Youth) for the project on social networks “La aventura de la araña” (The Adven-ture of the spider) In 2009 this project was exhibited at the Cultur-al Center of Spain in Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Santo Domingo and Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid. In 2010 it was

showed individually in Sala Camon, Alicante.I have been part of international programs of video art ( LA CASA ENCENDIDA, ZEMOS98, LOOP BARCELONA,VAD FESTIVAL...) and exhibitions (THE GALLERY SOHO, ETOPíA, Sala CAMON, CÍRCULO DE BELLAS ARTES DE MADRID, I+CAS, ARCO, CAIXA FÓRUM, Centro de Arte AXENEO7 , ALTER ARTE, etc.)

WORKS

On this serie I ironically exaggerate current dependence and bad habits we make of communication technologies. Each drawing in the serie covers one phobias or aversions .

For further exaggerate the drama of the message I decided to take my referents from comics and old horror movie poster. I had a lot of fun learning techniques I had never used before.

Vector drawing and digital colorSize: 31 x 46 cm.

HORROR TECHNOLOGY

WORKS

This series originates out of my fascination and curiosity of people whose gender is not obviously clear at first sight.

As a portrait exercise I was interested in exploring the fine line between feminine and masculine when drawing their factions. With this purpose, I portrayed four recognized and known people by this feature: Tilda Swinton, Claude Cahun, David Bowie and Bimba Bosé.

Golden spray, cotton paper, pencil, ink.Size: 32x24 cm.

ANDROGYNY

WORKS

PROCESS

Continuing my interest in monsters, this time I went to the sirens, though, I decided to introduce a change in the traditional conception as I represented them with two legs.

The main intention of this work was to experiment technically using laser cutting and giving color based on transparent fabrics ( chiffon ). As a result , I got a contrast between the materials drawn lines (MDF) and the smoothness of the fabrics while achieving a tactile sensation through the fabrics.

Laser cut, acrylic and fabric.Sizes: 52x42cm.

TWO LEGS MERMAID

TRABAJOSWORKS

PROCESS

Our faith to new technological advances, the passion and devotion aroused among its users, led me to make this work where I reflex computers and mobile devices as the new elements that we worship, imagining that even God and his angels somewhere also use these devices to connect with others or take selfies.

Acrylic on wood.Size: 60x45 cm.

DEUS EX MACHINA

WORKS

PROCESS

The merge of my longstanding interest in digital media combined with my new curiosity about the aliens turned out this work where my drawings are shown as rescued proof from the intergalactic world as proof that beings from other galaxies also take selfies.

I also included a message translated into binary code that are phrases that these beings share in their networks, not so different from those that we sent. (OMG, look at me! / Hating me does not make you prettier / Be careful, you might fall in love with me / Out of the shower)

Acrylic, laser engrave, sandpaper.Size: 29 x 34 cm.

ALIEN SELFIE

WORKS

PROCESS

This drawing was done for my brand "Niños salvajes". Our interests were animals, the extraordinary, the aliens and could not miss ... a wild child.

I started this drawing inspired in the case of Tippi, but ends up being a tribute to the children of the jungle.

Pencil, charcoal, watercolour, digital retouching, cotton paper.Size: 41 x 28 cm.

WILD CHILD

WORKS

PROCESS

This group of female monsters claim their rights and wishes to be recognized as their partners, classic monsters like Frankenstein, Wolfman and the Mummy who enjoyed fame and prestige for years in films, novels, comics and other forms of fiction, while they have remained in the shadows. Her dresses and Victorian calligraphy place them at the time when the first feminists began to raise their voices to assert the rights of women.

Watercolour, pencil, ink, printed paper and golden paper.Sizes: 21, 5 x 28 cm.

FEMALE MONSTERS

WORKS

Sometimes animals surprise us with their extraordinary features. However, humans undergo surgeries or cosmetic services in order to be more beautiful and in some cases for having attributes of beauty that these animals already have.

Watercolour,ink and vynil.Sizes: 21 x 28,5 cm. / 28,5 x 21 cm. / 41x29,5 cm.

WILD ÆSTHETIC

WORKS

Monsters who for years have been part of our imagination led me to create this series inspired by the dark and innocent air of old horror films.

Black ink on cotton paper.Sizes: 15 x 21 cm.

CLASSIC MONSTERS

WORKS

Exercise using acrylics on paper for drawing exotic animals.

Acrylic on cotton paper.Sizes: 16 x 24 cm.

ANIMALS

WORKS

As a member of the brand Niños salvajes (Wild Children) from 2013 to 2015, I conducted a serie of products with prints of my drawings including porcelain teapots and cups , shirts, dresses and notebooks .

The premise of the brand was to bring our ideas to everyday objects made in grayscale or black and white. Niños salvajes found their inspiration in the extraordinary, supernatural, fantasy and animal, sometimes seen with humor and freshness , others crudely or mystery. We believe that feral children are closer to the instincts , freedom and nature, and we like to think that anyone can open a door to that state.

This brand has participated in various events, exhibitions and projects in Mexico and Spain .
