  • Description: This is a fictional ad made for my Visual Communication class. It was all made in Microsoft Word and a scanned picture as the background.

Process: Since the Document has an image as a full background, I wanted to use the fewer elements nec-essary so they would not get in front of the image. The transparent black box was only to give more con-trast to the letters against the background, so reading could be comfortable. Message: I think there should be the most concise as possible, since it will be probably exposed in an area with people coming and going in a hurry. I thought about including a QR code, because people can check it at their cell phones immediatly.

Audience: I made a simple layout so it would fit a somehow broad audience. It will be in places con-nected to Indian rights and Human studies like Uni-versities and other organizations.

Color scheme and color names: I used a monochro-matic scheme in gold, because I wanted to keep the earthy colors of the picture.

Title Font Name & Category: Britannic Bold, modern.

Copy Font Name & Category: Tamil Sangam, sans serif.

Scanned images used, sources, original sizes, location of scanner used: I used a picture of my own, I took it myself while in a M by tribe in Brazil. The scan-ner used was a professional one in the Spori Lab in BYU-Idaho University. the original size of the picture was 4x5.

  • Description: Flier designed to a conference for gradu-ating students.

Process: I used Indesign to create the entire folder.

Message: The black rectangle gives contrast. I used the Leadership in a bigger font because I thought it would make the difference, instead of using grad-uate which could be anything to any student. I did not want them to think that it was just one more flier. The picture has students facing the same direction as the body copy is, leading the eyes to what is writ-ten. The squares in a gradient color give movement and also lead the eyes to the copy. The squares also made a nice diagonal balance with the logo at the bottom.

Audience: Students in their final semester at universi-ty.

Top Thing Learned: I learned how alignment is im-portant. In my words, it let the eyes rest by looking to what is important instead of searching for things in the image.

Description: show my abilities in photography and Photoshop.

Process (Programs, Tools, Skills, FOCUS principles): I intended to use a monochromatic color scheme, but after seeing the picture in a computer screen, I realized the lime tone in the left leaves and thought it would be a good analogous color scheme, both found in Visual FOCUS book. I used Photoshop to enhance saturation, colors and also to change the color of the bridge to a teal tone, to match exactly the scheme. I took the picture with a Canon T3 EOS Rebel camera.

Message: I used a full bleed photo and it has already many details from trees and leaves, so I decided to use less graphics elements. Also, the focal point is the bridge which brings a feel of solitude in a calm place and I did not want anything else competing with it. I chose to repeat the rectangles from the color scheme demonstration.

Audience: Female audience interested in things related to nature, mostly Yoga and gardening fans, regardless of age.

Top Thing Learned: How to use Photoshop. Mostly, how to adjust color and tones and dealing with lay-ers, but also selecting detailed objects and changing their color.

    Color scheme: Analogous.

  • Description: This is a brochure I made for my class to demonstrate my skills with text wrapping, paragraph styling and printing among the others I had devel-oped during the semester.

Process (Programs, Tools, Skills): I used Illustrator to create the logo with a 3D effect, Photoshop to cre-ate a mask in the beach picture and Indesign to put everything together.

Message: This is a brochure for a travel agency which offers customized routes for tourists in the city of Rio de Janeiro

Audience: People interested in traveling and who do not like to spend much time planning routes and dealing with transportation.

Top Thing Learned: Text wrapping and paragraph style were quite new for me, but I think using doc-uments from three different softwares was the most important thing to me, because I have made several changes that would have been much harder if I did not know how to use that.

  • Description: a web page created to show my logo.

Process (Programs, Tools, Skills): I created this web page using NotePad++. It was the very first time I wrote something in HTML/CSS. I really enjoyed it. After creating the HTML, I inserted a pre-made CSS document in it and started make changings. One thing that took me really long was creating the trans-parency effect in my copy background. But I was really happy with he results.

Message: I created a logo for a photographer

Audience: People who want Families photograph ses-sions

Top Thing Learned: The language in HTML and CSS

Title Font Families & Category: Eras, Franklin, sans-serif

Copy Font Families & Category: Times New Ro-man, Georgia, serif

  • Description: Logo for a photography professional

Process (Programs, Tools, Skills): This was interesting. I created three different logos and posted them on social media for people to vote. The one I liked the most was the least voted. It was more serious, and people did not like it. They chose these flowers that are more ludic. I made those variations to give a bet-ter idea of how it was going to be in different back-grounds. I used the pen tool to create the stem and shape tools for the flowers. I used a script font in the name of the client to create a more personal feeling, than a sans serif font to create contrast. I used Illustra-tor which can be tricky but allows endless creations. I liked worked with it a lot.

Message: a photographer that can make different projects, but prefers outdoor sessions

Audience: people looking for a photographer

Top Thing Learned: using Adobe Illustrator and the pen tool.

Color Scheme and Color Names: Split Complementa-ry green, yellow and purple

  • Description: Matching letterheads and business cards.

Process (Programs, Tools, Skills): I used Illustrator and InDesign to create this. Since it was a project for class, I created something of my mind. I once had a private English teacher I who used to have chairs decorated with that pattern in the room students waited for classes. Anyone who had been in her room would connect her business card and letterhead to the decoration.

Message: She was an elderly woman very proud of how she organized her workplace. I think she would like to have it remarked in her stationery.

Audience: Student who would want a very traditional English teacher.

Top Thing Learned: How to use files in Illustrator and InDesign at the same time.

Color scheme and color names: Complementary, orange and blue.
