supply and installation of new
street furniture signage and
street lighting; installation of
new puffin crossings.
The project commenced on 7th
November 2017 and is due to
be completed in Spring 2019.
The Public Realm scheme will
provide environmental improve-
ment to: Ramore Ave, Lower
Landsdowne Rd, Causeway
View, Bath Rd, Main St, Bath St,
Bath Terr, Church Pass, Atlantic
Ave, Causeway St, Eglington St,
Mark St and Dunluce Ave.
The works for the Public Realm
project includes: removal of
surfacing and kerbs and replace-
The first works on the ground
for the project was the ground
investigation at the proposed
light column positions and be-
side the existing retaining walls.
These works then inform the
design of the foundations in
each location.
November to January three
civils squads carried out car-
riageway drainage works and
some kerb line adjustments.
On the 22nd January the first
section of footway works com-
menced on Main Street, heading
from the junction with Mark
Street to the junction with Kerr
St. This involved setting up of
traffic management and site
clearance, followed by excava-
tion and drainage before install-
ing the new granite kerbs, foun-
dation base, large granite paving
and new street furniture. The
paving squad has commenced
and as completion of the paving
progresses towards the Kerr
Street junction, the civil squad
moved to the next section.
They commenced works on
Main Street opposite the junc-
tion with Bath Street heading
towards the Mark Street .
The second civil squad com-
menced on Lansdowne Road on
the 29th January This was fol-
lowed by excavation and drain-
age before installing the new
granite kerbs and foundation
base. The finished footway is an
exposed aggregate concrete
footpath which will be poured in
bays. The next phase of works
will be installing the street light-
ing lanterns and new street
furniture.
The third civil squad com-
menced on Causeway Street
on the 5th February after some
design adjustments. The works
commenced at the junction
with Main Street headed down
Causeway street. The finished
surface in this area will be gran-
ite kerbs and paving. New fea-
tures which will be installed
between Main Street and
Craig Vara include cycle
stands, new controlled pedes-
trian crossing, heritage plaque,
and new litterbins. The heritage
plaques are bronze plaques
which will be inlaid into the
paving.

the maritime history of the
town.
The small u-shaped basin at
the inner end of Portrush
Harbour is a scheduled pro-
tected status dock due to its
regional importance as an
important landing place during
the Anglo-Norman period.
The dock was modified into a
harbour in 1827.
The poppies which grew on
the battlefields after world
war one are the reason pop-
pies are used to remember

in battle.
With this
in mind

The busy harbour is the base
for a severn class lifeboat and
inshore lifeboat for the RNLI,
who have operated lifeboats
out of the harbor since 1860.
The harbor is also the finish
of the popular annual RNLI
raft race which sets off from
the West Strand.
The Harbour also houses a
Marina and is the launch point
for boat tours, kayaking and
diving along the coastline.
