Position – National Director of Development Location: San Francisco, CA 826 National is seeking a National Director of Development to help implement all fundraising and public relations initiatives. These initiatives include corporate, foundation, and government partnerships, individual giving, and major donor solicitation. The role entails all aspects of fundraising including planning, budgeting, reporting, and monitoring. The National Director of Development is responsible for raising the National office budget of over $900,000, as well as assisting in raising money on a national scale to support the larger network’s $5 million budget. We have a goal of tripling the organization’s revenue within five years. This is a fulltime position that reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer and is a member of the 826 National team. At times, this position requires travel and outofhours work, on evenings and weekends. Responsibilities:
Work closely with the CEO to implement strategies that meet aggressive annual and longterm fundraising goals
Develop and implement a fundraising plan for 826 National including prospect research, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship development
Build and maintain strong, positive relationships with existing and prospective corporate, foundation, and individual funding sources
Prepare highquality grant proposals, project budgets, and yearend reports Work with members of the National team on initiatives as needed Communicate and work with Executive Directors and development colleagues from
all chapters and ScholarMatch to coordinate nationwide proposals and fundraising initiatives, track progress, and ensure fulfillment of commitments
Effectively manage and track donor cultivation activities in database and donor/grants calendars. Ensure that appropriate recognition and reporting occurs for all donations, grants and contracts
Create and work with external designers on annual reports Oversee the development of communication materials for CEO/leaders going on
visits (e.g., talking points, solicitation materials, fundraising plans) Provide the CEO and board members with timely reports and updates on
fundraising progress for quarterly board meetings, as well as on ad hoc basis Qualifications:
A flexible, creative, entrepreneurial spirit who has a demonstrated passion for the mission, vision, and values of 826 National
Exceptional written and oral communication skills, with the ability and maturity to engage and inspire a wide range of audiences
At least 510 years of fundraising experience, with a record of actively securing gifts from national corporations, foundations, and individual donors
Ability to work independently and as part of a team Experience working with nonprofit and/or educational organizations and holding
fiscal responsibilities; proven track record of maintaining fiscal integrity and budget compliance
Comprehensive experience using Salesforce.com (and/or a sophisticated fundraising database) to track donor information and produce reports
Energetic, hardworking, and an enthusiastic team player Proven organizational and project management skills Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required; Master’s degree preferred Bilingual language and writing skills are a plus
