Four Service Concentration Areas

Strengthening Community-Based Organizational Capacity• Service activities that improve the ability of a non-profit or government

organization to serve its community and achieve its mission

Mobilizing Volunteers• Providing other services that involve mobilizing volunteers for community events,

community organizations, and/or National Days of Service

Education/Improving academic access and success• Service activities that improve the academic access and success for disadvantaged

and/or at-risk youth

Engaging Veterans• Other service opportunities that engage Veterans in serving their community or

benefits Veterans in general

3. What unmet community need does your service address?Now that you’ve told us who your service is benefitting

4. What are your specific duties and responsibilities at your service site?Now that we know who you are serving, and the unmet need it will address, tell us what your service activities are.

Example 1: I’m working with Habitat for Humanity

I’m building homes for low-income individuals; creating flyers to recruit volunteers; conducting materials drives; recruiting volunteers; developing partnerships with other community agencies; creating PowerPoint training sessions about Habitat for Humanity; etc.

5. Describe two ways in which your service will positively impact your local community.Example 1. I’m serving as a counselor• The mental health of over 30 low-

income community members, who otherwise would not receive mental health counseling, will improve

• The capacity of the mental health clinic to serve low-income community members will be strengthened

Example 2. I’m serving at a Title 1 School• 25 at-risk students will have more

confidence in their English skills and will be improved writers

• Students be better prepared to apply and attend college in the future

Member Development PlanProvide member development / training goals you plan to pursue during your term of service.
