Cancer Research Initiative Dalhousie University
Dalhousie University Faculty of Medicine is seeking

Postdoctoral Position Mount Sinai Medical School
A two year postdoctoral position is currently
available to study T cell responses directed
toward lgG2a allotypes. This project involves the
production of long-term T cell lines and the use
of recombinant DNA techniques for the construction
of target cell populations. Structure/function
studies will localize determinants recognized by
Class I- and Class II-restricted T cells and
investigate the possible relationship between T,,
and CTL tolerance.

Postdoctoral Position The Salk Institute
Research Associate/Postdoctoral position available
to work in the area of regulation of gene expression.
We have recently cloned and sequenced the promoter
region of the human fibronectin gene. Expression of
this gene is induced by glucocorticoids, cyclic AMP
and transforming growth factor-b in human
fibrosarcoma ceils, and is repressed by malignant
transformation. Variant cells synthesizing fibronectin
at altered rates have also been obtained. The
research project is to analyze the elements
necessary for expression and regulation of that gene,
in particular the DNA binding sites and the
transcription factors involved. Some experience in
molecular biology and/or protein biochemistry is
desirable but not required. The position is available

Postdoctoral position to analyze expression and
function of the Tissue Factor (TF) molecule on the
surface of eukaryotic cells using site directed
mutagenesis and selective deletion of the cloned
cDNA. TF is an inducible cellular receptor that
binds the serine protease zymogen factor VII with
high affinity and apparently allosterically
generates an active and highly specific serine
protease complex. The structural features
required for proper post-translational processing
and functional activity are important in
understanding the receptor mediated initiation of
the coagulation cascade and the inflammatory and

novel system of regulation of gene expression and
DNA replication by silicon in the diatom, by analysis
of gene banks previously constructed in this

been used successfully to identify diatom genes of
similar function in the banks and at least one yeast

4. Protein Chemist Experience in protein purification. characterization and sequencing with substantial use of HPLC. To perform modification experiments directed towards type II restriction system mutagenesis. Interest in nucleic acid-protein interactions a plus.
Restriction endonuclease purification, requires B.S. or M.S. experience in protein purification. Strong background in molecular biology with emphasis on cloning techniques. Experience with HPL,C would be helpful.

Faculty Positions Biomolecular Structure and Function The Pennsylvania State University
Applications are invited for two tenure track positions at any level as part of an expanded research
concentration in the area of biomolecular structure and function. Candidates are being sought in each of
the following areas: (1)protein crystal structure determination and (2)macromolecular computer
graphics/energy calculations. The University has made a major commitment in this area through
