The Division of Orthopaedic Surgery has an opening for a postdoctoral research fellow in the field of molecular/cell biology. lt is desired that the candidate be skilled in basic recombinant DNA techniques, have experience in mammalian cell culture; mRNA isolation and characterization (i.e. northern blotting and in situ hybridization); and protein purification. Senior Research Associate

Senior Research Associate (Biochemist) to study chemical processes involved in degenerative lung disease. Produce, isolate, characterize and use antibody-producing hybridomas to immunoreactive components of lung macrophages and alpha-1-antitrypsin. Research performed utilizing knowledge of production of monoclonal antibodies including alpha-l-antitrypsin, generation of antibodies using proteins (native and degraded) and synthetic peptides; lung biochemistry especially with proteases and inhibitors; biohazardous materials and tissue culture; and analytical chemistry. Cardiovascular Research Training at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Program of Excellence in Molecular Biology

Postdoctoral Research Training Fellowships in the Molecular Biology of the Blood Vessel Wall are available for candidates with an M.D. or Ph.D. degree at an NIH-HLB sponsored Program of Excellence in Molecular Biology of the Cardiovascular System. The twin goals of this Program are:

1) to develop an environment in which the most effective strategies of molecular biology will be employed to expand our knowledge of the function and malfunction of the cardiovascular system 2) to train young investigators who will apply basic science approaches to the continued resolution of major unanswered questions in this area.

ARS has openings for two research biologists/genet- icists. One position will investigate the effect of high temperatures on the synthesis of wheat endosperm storage proteins. The other position will study storage protein mRNA transport from the nucleus to the cytoplasm in the developing wheat endosperm cell.
