Postdoctoral Positions Molecular and Cellular Biology Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, located in the San Francisco Bay Area, is seeking applicants for two postdoctoral appointments in the Biomedical Sciences Division.
These positions are offered by an established research group applying the glycophorin A-based assay to the study human in vivo somatic mutation and represent a major new initiative to extend the research program into the areas of cellular and animal models and molecular characterization of mutational mechanisms.
*The first position involves the utilization of DNA vectors designed to target integration of human allele-specific glycophorin A DNA sequences into the genomic homologue in human or mouse erythroleukemia cell lines.
*The second position involves the development and application of methods to characterize genetic alterations at the glycophorin A locus and in glycophorin A mRNA in mutant erythroid cells arising in vitro and in vivo.
The selected candidates should have a degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, or genetics. Experience in one or more of the following areas is desirable: phage/cosmid cloning, eucaryotic expression vectors, DNA transfection, transgenic mice, in situ hybridization, DNA restriction analysis, enzymatic DNA amplification. A research program is being developed to explore
relationships between drug action on cellular DNA and
cytotoxicity. The studies will emphasize development
of concepts designed to target DNA reactive antitumor

receptors by receptor analysis. Required minimum
Ph. D. in endocrinology and six months postdoctoral
training with proven research record in reverse
hemolytic plaques assay, immunochemistry, radio
immunoassay, pituitary cell culture, and immunohisto
chemistry. Annual salary is $28,800 for 40 hour lab

Postdoctoral Fellowship Department of Cell Biology Albert Einstein College of Medicine
Research on the molecular mechanism of a virus
membrane fusion reaction, and on the endocytic
pathway which the virus uses to infect host cells.
Approaches include cDNA cloning and expression, in
vitro mutagenesis, biochemistry, and the generation of
virus mutants and monoclonal antibodies. Experience
in molecular biology, virology, or protein chemistry is

Senior Retroviologist Department of Microbiology/Immunology
University of Miami School of Medicine
The University of Miami School of Medicine announces the creation of a senior faculty position for a virologist
with special research interests and strengths in the molecular biology of retroviruses. Applications are invited from
individuals with established research expertise who wish to implement and build an interdisciplinary research and
training program. The primary faculty appointment for this position, at the full professorial level, is in the
Department of Microbiology and Immunology. The appointee will assume the post of Director of the Retrovirology
Collaborative Research Group for the medical campus. The mission of the Group is to create an outstanding and
productive research program that is both independent and interactive with the many basic research programs within
the Department, with well funded projects in the AIDS program at Miami, and with research workers in the
Comprehensive Cancer Center. The appointee will also serve as program director for the wral Oncology Program
of the Comprehensive Cancer Center. In addition to the Director, the Group is envisioned to comprise two senior
and two junior scientists to be recruited. The Director will have a major role in making these appointments.

Endowed Professorship in Molecular Biology Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology The University of Oklahoma HSC A senior faculty position in the Department of
Biochemistry and Molecular Biology has been created at
the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.
The position is a funded endowed chair, the Ed W.
Miller Chair in Molecular Biology, named after the
former President of the Presbyterian Health
Foundation. No specific field of molecular biology is
required, but candidates should have an outstanding
research program. The department has recently
undergone a major expansion and the holder of the
Chair will play a pivotal role in the continued
development of the Department. This Chair and
several others which have been created in the College
of Medicine will also play leading roles in an
interdisciplinary Center of Excellence in Molecular

Associate Research Scientist
Associate research scientist-conduct research on the
structure of immunoglobulin and the regulation of
immunoglobulin biosynthesis, specifically that of IgE.
Major emphasis is on developing techniques for the
selective inhibition of IgE production without
interfering with the synthesis of other antibodies.
Requirements include Ph. D. in Biology or
Biochemistry with at least three years postdoctoral
research experience in immunology, including
knowledge of a variety of techniques used for
research in immunochemistry and cellular immunology
including IgE. Salary $27,000. 40 hours/week.
