A total of $45,000 in scholarship money will be split among ten Pasco seniors, thanks to the Hispanic Aca- demic Achievers Program (HAAP). The annual HAAP scholarship awards ceremony was held April 26 at the Toyota Center in Kennewick. Nine seniors from Chiawana High School earned scholarships, including Kaya Search ($1,500), Maria Cruz Ortiz ($2,000), Vanessa Machuca ($2,500), Sadie Jolie Search ($3,000), Ailen Soriano ($4,000), Sydnee Suarez ($5,000), Rosalva Estrada Mendoza ($5,000), JuliAnna Ventura ($7,000), and Andrea Galvan Ruiz ($10,000). Pasco High senior Yesenia Nunez also earned a scholarship of $5,000. Congratulations to all of these seniors on their outstanding achievements. Mrs. Smith was nominated for Mister Car
Wash’s “Teachers Who Shine” award by sev-
eral of her students. Smith says she plans to
use the money to purchase some items that
will help her students do well on their upcom-
ing SBA tests.

STCU Surprises PSD Teachers with Classroom Grants
To celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week, representatives with STCU
credit union visited six Pasco schools to surprise PSD staff members
with $100 classroom grants. The grant recipients included (clockwise
from top right) Denice Laws at New Horizons High School,
Silbestre Hernandez at Longfellow Elementary, Bryeanna Jager,
Kristen Wren, and Jami Bunger at Livingston Elementary, Susan
Jensen at Curie STEM Elementary, Amalia Walle, Cori Rush, and
Samantha Shulins-Briggs at McLoughlin Middle School, and Holly
Doyle at Franklin STEM Elementary. A big “thank you” to STCU for
supporting Pasco teachers!

Chess Elementary Hosts Science and Arts Showcase
Arts and science were in the spotlight at Chess Elementary’s annual
Science and the Arts Showcase on April 24. Dozens of students dis-
played their artwork and science projects on bulletin boards and tables
set up around the school. There were also lots of hands-on activities,
science presentations and visual displays.
A special “thank you” to Franklin PUD, WSU Master Gardeners, and
the Delta High School ambassadors for volunteering their time to share
with our students and families.
Golfers Hit the Course to Support Virgie Robinson Scholarship Fund
A big “thank you” to the Pasco community for coming out to support the 7th annual Virgie Robinson
Scholarship Spring Classic golf tournament on April 20. Dozens of golfers hit the course at Sun Willows and
collectively they raised nearly $15,000 for the Virgie Robinson Scholarship Fund.

• Carla Lobos and Dr. Luis Cruz led a discussion on the District’s implementation of Professional Learning Communities in our schools.
Special Recognition
• Shane Edinger recognized the seven Pasco teachers who have completed the requirements to become National Board Certified teachers during the 2018-19 school year.

• The board approved Resolution No. 977: 2018-19 Budget Extension Hearing and Adoption: Transportation Vehicle Fund.
