The word Acadia may bring up the vision of a sport utility vehicle made by General Mo- tors in some people’s minds. It did mine for many years, as my prior profession was a service manager with a Gen- eral Motors dealership. And yes, the word is Acadia and not ARCadia, as many mispro- nounced it. But for the outdoors types, Acadia also brings up visions of the Atlantic Northeast. I purposely called it the Atlan- tic Northeast, as another area of our country goes by Pacific Northwest. And frankly, Aca- dia National Park resembles the area of the PNW that I have seen so much that it had that kind of feel to it. I traveled up along the New England coast for a job, but had several days in which I was able to visit several lighthouses as well as the first national park east of the Mis- sissippi River. Although the weather was not the best dur- ing much of my stay, Acadia did not disappoint and the weather just gave it that added feel that one would expect on such an adventure. If you are unfamiliar with Acadia, it is located primarily on Mt. Desert Island along the ‘Down East’ portion of Maine. Yes, North Carolina has our own ‘Down East,’ but for the rest of the nation, it points to Maine. Acadia is one of the smaller national parks in the country as well, meaning it is easy to get a good lay-of- the-land. Another vehicle word, Ca- dillac, does not describe the cars driving around. No, it labels Cadillac Mountain, a nearly 1600-foot mount that is the tallest along the Atlantic Coast. From here, weather per- mitting, you can be the first to observe the sunrise in the United States. I didn’t get that luxury, although I tried. It dawned on me, both figu- ratively and literally speaking, that I was much further north than my home when first light was just after 4am. Without setting an alarm, my body recognized the light waking me up each morning before sunrise, even when the hori- zon was cloud covered. The sunset, well that was different as well. For one, the sun didn’t make a downward path. No, it would set from left to right as it neared the western horizon. And I could still see the golden glow until after 10pm. I spent three days in the park. The first day was mainly to explore and become familiar with the park. Acadia does not offer backwoods camping, and the primitive and not-so-prim- itive spots were all taken. I had to improvise. I also wanted to get some photos of the park’s resident lighthouse, the Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse, as the first day was the only day it was expected to be sunny. After the first day, what I found was an outdoors para- dise in a microcosm. Abun- dant shorelines, rocky coves, mountain after mountain, long lakes, and backwoods hiking that was neither too difficult nor too crowded was the attraction. I took numbers of photo- graphs, hiked several trails, and noted things I wanted to come back to the next day as well. The white birches stand- ing out against the various firs, the luscious greens from the ferns and other under- growth, and the deep red soil along the pathways made for the perfect settings. Yet, you are never too far from civilization. Acadia made for a great getaway without getting too far away. Well, not too far away from others. From home, it is very far away with the nearly 1000 miles of as- phalt separating the two spots on the map. But the 1000 miles was worth it. Heck, I hadn’t even experi- enced the best day yet. –Bill Howard is a lifelong North Carolina resident and hunter. Default having been made of the note thereby secured by the said Deed of Trust and the undersigned, Trustee Services of Carolina, LLC, having been substituted as Trustee in said Deed of Trust, and the holder

of the note evidencing said default having directed that the Deed of Trust be foreclosed, the undersigned Substitute Trustee will offer for sale at the courthouse door of the county courthouse where the property is located, or the usual and customary location at the county courthouse for conducting the sale on July 11, 2017 at 11:30AM, and will sell to the high-est bidder for cash the following de-scribed property situated in Pender County, North Carolina, to wit:

BEING ALL OF LOT(S) 99, SEC-TION 2, WILLOWS BAY SUBDIVI-SION, RECORDED IN MAP BOOK(S) 32, PAGE(S) 134, PENDER COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA.

Save and except any releases, deeds of release or prior convey-ances of record.

Said property is commonly known as 307 Willows Bay Drive, Rocky Point, NC 28457.

A cash deposit (no personal checks) of five percent (5%) of the purchase price, or Seven Hundred Fifty Dollars ($750.00), whichever is greater, will be required at the time of the sale. Following the expiration of the statutory upset bid period, all the remaining amounts are immediately due and owing. THIRD PARTY PUR-CHASERS MUST PAY THE EXCISE TAX AND THE RECORDING COSTS FOR THEIR DEED.

Said property to be offered pur-suant to this Notice of Sale is being offered for sale, transfer and con-veyance “AS IS WHERE IS.” There are no representations of warranty relating to the title or any physical, environmental, health or safety condi-tions existing in, on, at, or relating to the property being offered for sale. This sale is made subject to all prior liens, unpaid taxes, any unpaid land transfer taxes, special assessments, easements, rights of way, deeds of re-lease, and any other encumbrances or exceptions of record. To the best of the knowledge and belief of the undersigned, the current owner(s) of the property is/are All Lawful Heirs of Lawrence Ford.

An Order for possession of the property may be issued pursuant to G.S. 45-21.29 in favor of the purchaser and against the party or parties in possession by the clerk of superior court of the county in which the property is sold. Any person who occupies the property pursuant to a rental agreement entered into or renewed on or after October 1, 2007, may, after receiving the notice of sale, terminate the rental agreement by providing written notice of termina-tion to the landlord, to be effective on a date stated in the notice that is at least 10 days, but no more than 90 days, after the sale date contained in the notice of sale, provided that the mortgagor has not cured the default at the time the tenant provides the notice of termination [NCGS § 45-21.16A(b)(2)]. Upon termination of a rental agreement, the tenant is liable for rent due under the rental agree-ment prorated to the effective date of the termination.

If the trustee is unable to convey title to this property for any reason, the sole remedy of the purchaser is the return of the deposit. Reasons of such inability to convey include, but are not limited to, the filing of a bankruptcy petition prior to the confir-mation of the sale and reinstatement of the loan without the knowledge of the trustee. If the validity of the sale is challenged by any party, the trustee, in their sole discretion, if they believe the challenge to have merit, may request the court to declare the sale to be void and return the deposit. The purchaser will have no further remedy.

SUBSTITUTE TRUSTEE’S NOTICE OF

FORECLOSURE SALE OF REAL PROPERTY

THIS ACTION BROUGHT PURSU-ANT TO THE POWER AND AUTHOR-ITY contained within that certain Deed of Trust executed and delivered Ne-miah Allen dated November 2, 2007 and recorded on November 13, 2007 in Book 3353 at Page 205 in the Office of the Register of Deeds of Pender County, North Carolina.

As a result of a default in the obligations contained within the Promissory Note and Deed of Trust and the failure to carry out and per-form the stipulations and agreements contained therein, the holder of the indebtedness secured by said Deed of Trust made demand to have the default cured, which was not met. Therefore, the undersigned Substitute Trustee will place for sale that parcel of land, including improvements thereon, situated, lying and being in the City of Burgaw, County of Pender, State of North Carolina, and being more particularly described in the heretofore referenced Deed of Trust. Said sale will be a public auction, to the highest bidder for cash, at the usual place of sale at the Pender County Courthouse, Burgaw, North Carolina on July 11, 2017 at 11:30 AM. Address of property: 2228 NC Highway 53 West. Tax Parcel ID: 3219-30-2489-0000. Present Record Owners: The Heirs of Nemiah Allen. The terms of the sale are that the real property hereinbefore described will be sold for cash to the highest bidder. A deposit of five percent (5%) of the amount of the bid or Seven Hundred Fifty Dollars ($750.00), whichever is greater, is required and must be tendered in the form of certified funds at the time of the sale. The successful bidder will be required to pay revenue stamps on the Trustee’s Deed, any Land Transfer Tax, and costs for recording the Trustee’s Deed. The real property hereinabove described is being offered for sale “AS IS, WHERE IS” and will be sold subject to all superior liens, unpaid taxes, special assessments, and other encumbrances. Other conditions will be announced at the sale. The sale will be held open for ten (10) days for upset bids, as by law required. The sale will not confirm until there have been ten (10) consecutive days with no upset bids having been filed. If for any reason the Trustee is unable to convey title to this property, or if the sale is set aside, the sole remedy of the purchaser is the return of the bid deposit. Furthermore, if the validity of the sale is challenged by any party, the Trustee, in its sole discretion, if it believes the challenge to have merit, may declare the sale to be void and return the bid deposit. In either event, the purchaser will have no further recourse against the Mortgagor, the Mortgagee, the Mortgagee’s attorney, or the Trustee. Additional Notice Required for Residential Real Property with Less Than Fifteen (15) Rental Units: An order for possession of the property may be issued pursu-ant to G.S. 45-21.29 in favor of the purchaser and against the party or parties in possession by the clerk of superior court of the county in which the property is sold. Any person who occupies the property pursuant to a rental agreement entered into or renewed on or after October 1, 2007, may, after receiving the notice of sale, terminate the rental agreement by providing written notice of termina-tion to the landlord, to be effective on a date stated in the notice that is at least 10 days, but no more than 90 days, after the sale date contained in the notice of sale, provided that the mortgagor has not cured the default at the time the tenant provides the notice of termination. Upon termina-tion of a rental agreement, the tenant is liable for rent due under the rental agreement prorated to the effective date of the termination.

time was sudden death – first basket wins. Regulation ended with the two teams tied at 37-37, and both scored two points in the first extra period. Lofton (17 points, 11 rebounds) con-trolled the tip at the start of the second extra period, tap-ping the ball to Montano (10 points, 5 boards) who imme-diately found Floyd (6 points) open on the left side of the basket for the game-winning (41-39) layup.

Unfortunately the Pirates ran into West Columbus and Brownlee in the second elimi-nation and fell 76-72 to the Vi-kings, who got 36 points from Brownlee and who finished with 64 of West Columbus’ 136 two-game total against the Pi-rates (28 in first game). Indi-vidually, several Pirates had a very good 3 days, Lofton had 98 points (14.0) and 59 rebounds (7.4 RPG), Jamison Long had 57 points, Bloodworth had 47 points and 7 boards, junior Christoph Wolf finished with 46 points and 11 rebounds, and Jarris Long ended up with 40 points and 18 rebounds.

Floyd (35 points, 8 rebounds), senior Greg Unger (21 points, 10 rebounds), sophomore E. J. Carr (19 points, 8 rebounds in 5 games), Montano (24 points and 10 rebounds in 2 games). Junior Jonah Stevens (7 points, 6 rebounds) and Brandon War-wick (6 points, 2 boards) also chipped in.

“My thoughts we struggled a bit on offense and that’s understandable, but we defi-nitely played better this week then we did in Myrtle Beach,” Topsail Coach Jamie Rochelle said. “Our shooters were get-ting open shots and big guys (Brandon and Christoph) did a nice job of working inside and rebounding.

“I was pleased with the last three days. Obviously there are still a lot of things we still need to work on, especially on the defensive side of the ball, which is where we al-ways seem to struggle. I don’t know, outside of Brandon right now, who will gives us points consistently like we got from Johnny (Tartaglione)

definitely think we have more potential scorers this year.

“I thought D. J. played well coming off the knee injury (from football) and them we lost Caleb (second day) with

a turned ankle but it gave us a chance to play a lot of other kids more minutes. E. J. will help us inside. I don’t think he’ll necessarily be a dominating once this year, but give him time and experience I think he has a future. I feel confident we’ll be okay moving forward.”

The boys will some time away from competition for practice. There are three “dead weeks,” where nothing can be done. Next up is a camp and games at Coastal Christian

(24-27).

Kolby Lanier also had a good day at the plate. “These young guys are really getting after it, “said Ingold. “The whole team is working extremely hard.”

The older boys fell 3-1 de-spite a good outing on the

out error in the fourth frame

a 3-1 lead that stood for the remainder of the game. “It was just one of those plays, “said Ingold. “It was a routine ground ball that we just didn’t

make a play on. I can’t com-plain. These guys are giving me all they have. We’re hitting the ball better and our pitch-ing is better. That was what we needed to work on.”

The Titans are scheduled to play four days this week including a home game with Pender on Friday night.

revenue surpluses through tax relief and responsible spend-ing. Please note that we have experienced budget surpluses each cycle while the naysayers falsely predicted that reducing the net tax burden for all indi-viduals in our state would pro-duce deficits. Predictions that tax relief would cause budget deficits in North Carolina have proven consistently false since 2011. Instead, the economy has grown, individuals have creat-ed jobs, and produced revenue surpluses in the hundreds of millions of dollars.

The budget also provides an additional $11 million in text-books and digital resources along with increasing funding for children with disabilities.

further tax relief for all income levels (99 percent of taxpay-ers will either pay less or no state personal income taxes as this proposal is fully real-ized). While the Republican-led

-sembly has already cut billions in taxes for individuals, we con-tinue this trend by tripling the standard deduction (zero-tax bracket) from what it was in 2011 ($6,000 to $20,000). Raising the standard deduction helps those of us who make the least by allowing a larger percent-age of our income to remain untaxed while lowering our “effective” tax rates. In fact, under this budget proposal and additional 95,000 North

Carolinians will be added to the state’s zero-tax bracket.

While serving the 16th Dis-trict in the State House there

have been Republican budgets that I have opposed and bud-gets that I have supported. This session I am very pleased to have had the opportunity to support the 2017-2018 budget conference report as it con-tinues reducing the net tax burden on the citizen while responsibly funding state government.

Beating a “dead horse” on state transportation

related mattersPlease find this newsletter

as a supplement to previous newsletters and press releases that I have provided to the pub-lic outlining our voice to the executive branch concerning our district’s transportation needs. No matter how many times I write about were we are and how far we have come involving our area’s transpor-tation needs, ranging from state related dredging funding to the progress of the Hwy. 17 Hampstead Bypass, I continu-ously encounter individuals in the public that have missed the “good news”.

Not only did the state leg-islature hear our voice and act regarding the need for a consistent funding source to dredge our inlets by establish-ing the Shallow Draft Inlet Fund, our area has also been able to secure full funding for the northern section of the Hwy. 17 Hampstead Bypass in order to move the decade old concept into reality, and to do so ahead of schedule.

In regard to the Hamp-stead Bypass, please note that strong representation from your Pender County Com-mission and this State House office served as a voice to our state transportation officials when it came to scoring the Bypass project against other state-wide transportation projects in order to make sure we all within the 16th District received a “fair shake” in-volving the impacts of traffic congestion on safety, tourism, military/freight, and etc.

that our Bypass project re-ceived proper input into the statewide scoring formula, it has been a passion of mine to stop the robbery of our gas tax dollars from the Highway Fund (transportation infra-structure) and being diverted into the state’s general fund.

Please know that I have, and will continue, to exhaust my outreach efforts so that I can to get the truth of the good news of what our hard work in Raleigh has been able to achieve.
