As a General Rule:
A poster should be attractive,well-organized and self-
explanatory.

The poster shouts about theFarmers Information &
Technology Services (FITS)
Center of KASC. This posteruses the concept of
grouping. Exaggerating thesize of the first letter C of
the five conceptssummarized in the poster
also adds effect, and breaksthe monotony of the photos.
Side information: the FarmersInformation & Technology Services
(FITS) Center of KASC was established in 2002, through theresourcefulness of then President Venus Lammawin. (FITScenters are under the supervision of PCARRD under DOST).
The following year, KASC-FITS won as the Best FITS in theCordillera Administrative Region (CAR).

TITLES AND RESEARCHERS NAMES
The tile normally contains a maximum of 18 words, typed in bold capital letter, using font size 72. But
the size may be made even bigger than that, foradditional ability to attract.
Arial, Arial Black and Times New Roman are themore popular fonts.
As to the authors, HARRDEC specifies that their
names be omitted from the face of the poster. Inother research conferences, placing the name of aresearcher is not an issue.

Give a brief description and significance of the
technology/study.

As much as possible, minimizewords and maximize visuals in
describing the technology or thestudy. Or at least balance the
textual content with the photos orillustrations.
This poster for the study on patch
farming won FIRST PLACE at theResearch Conference organized bythe International Society forSoutheast Asian AgriculturalSciences (ISSAAS) in Los Baos in2007.

End with a brief conclusion, or alisting of recommendationswhichever comes last in the paper
accompanying your poster. Fontsize 26 is usually the standard, but
again, this can be made larger,
depending on the space available.

Another effective
technique is to use theconcept of contrast. Setlight colors against dark
backdrop, or the wayaround.

Tables and graphs arepreferred, so as to
minimize words.

The design should flowsequentially from one
part to the next. Top-to-
bottom and left-to-rightmovement of the eyes
must be observed.

At the end of the day, it is theartistic freedom of the layout
artist which comes into fullplay. For researchers that
cannot do the layout of theirown posters, it is advised thatthey sit with the artist so that
their ideas will be theinstructional guide that will
dominate the poster.
In my experience, researcherswill most often request that
their favorite color dominatethe poster.

One thing more:
remember that aposter presenter has
as much the sameweight as an oral
presenter.

With this information, I hope I had been able to inspireboth researchers and layout artists, so that your research
undertakings may find their place in a forum where they
will not only be evaluated but awarded as well.
