Our training programmes allow you to immerse yourself in your chosen subject area, to truly challenge yourself and to gain the extra knowledge that puts you at the forefront of your field

Introducing the General Practitioner Certificate

Since the launch of the first General Practitioner Certificates (GPCert) in 2003, over 3000 veterinary surgeons across Europe, and worldwide, have achieved a GPCert. The GPCert is designed to meet the needs of busy veterinary practitioners wanting to a gain a postgraduate qualification, but without having to take excessive time out of their busy working lives. The uniqueness of the GPCert modular training programmes are structured taught sessions from experienced academics.Whilst the GPCert is not a specialist qualification, on successful completion of the GPCert you will not only have gained valuable additional skills, but also the confidence and competence to use these skills and knowledge to enhance the value of your practice. Many have used the General Practitioner Certificate as a stepping stone to higher qualifications or have gone on tocomplete more than one GPCert.

Each GPCert comprises:· Taught sessions with accompanying notes· Practical sessions where relevant to the subject· Pre and post module online self assessment· Preparation for end-of-programme assessments· Independent study, including online components· Support throughout your learning journey Our modular programmes have a duration of one to two years and are structured in theoretical and practical modules, with online support where appropriate. All of our speakers are recognised specialists of the European and/or American colleges. This will allow you to learn from some of the best in the world in each of the taught subjects. Our two leading programmes in Small Animal Medicine and Small Animal Surgery will allow you to obtain knowledge and skills in two core areas of small animal practice. The small animal medicine programme will cover all of the major body-systems, whilst the small animal surgery programme divides into a soft-tissue component in year one, and an orthopaedic/spinal component in year two. The programmes will be delivered in Nicosia, Cyprus.

General Practitioner Certificate

• Attend all course modules• Independent Study

Exam

• Sit a multiple choice exam (in Cyprus)

• Write 10 x case studies (500-1000 words)

• Write 1 case report (2500 words maximum) according to ESVPS exam guidelines.

The GPCert is a standardised certification throughout Europe and therefore any veterinarian who obtains this certificate, regardless of the country in which it is examined, will be certain to have achieved a standard level of knowledge in that key area.

Achieving the General Practitioner Certificate (GPCert)

The General Practitioner Certificate is the most popular middle tier qualification in Europe and it can be used as a stepping stone to higher education within the profession. Some successful candidates have used the General Practitioner Certificate qualification to go on to complete

a higher degree and also complete a European Diploma in their specialist area. Most of the General Practitioner Certificates, including Small Animal Medicine and Small Animal Surgery, have been validated by Harper Adams University at a Postgraduate Certificate level.

INTRODUCTION:

Internal Medicine is undoubtedly the largest area of Veterinary Medicine. It is therefore very difficult to be aware of the innovations and maintain an updated level of knowledge. This programme ensures an effective update of knowledge in the main areas of Internal Medicine. The essentially interactive approach and presentation of clinical cases facilitates the understanding of different pathologies and the acquisition of new competencies.
