Aims of the courseAims of the course

• To provide psychology graduates who are intending to become Chartered Occupational Psychologists with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills required by the Division of Occupational Psychology of the British Psychological Society (BPS)

• To provide training in research methodology that will enable students to pursue high quality research, whether in postgraduate studies or in a business context

• To equip you with competencies in various practical key skills required in your future careers and are sought after by employing organisations.

• To provide a strong platform for subsequent doctoral work

Course StructureCourse Structure

• The course is studied over 12 months full time; six months taught followed by six months spent on the dissertation

• Each course unit except Research Methodology is worth 20 credits, and the taught component is worth 110 credits in total. The dissertation is worth 70 credits.

• The Hatfield Prize in Organisational Psychology (£100);

• ESRC accreditation (1+3) and opportunities to continue on the MBS Doctoral Programme on completion of the course.

management-related subjects but others have first degrees in a wide range of quite different subject areas;

The InternshipThe InternshipGives you the opportunity to gain practical experience whilst

enabling you to implement the skills you have learnt whilst studying. The internships are unsalaried on an expenses only basis.

• TimescalesTimescalesYour internship will commence around mid May/June. The projects

vary in length usually spanning 6 – 12 weeks.

• ProjectsProjectsProjects are mainly sourced within the Northwest. All projects are

checked for suitability and approved by the MBus Academic Director. All projects are sourced and released by the Internship Co-ordinator.

• Recruitment & SelectionRecruitment & SelectionThe employers select which students they would like to interview

from the students CV’s and cover letters. These selections are made using the companies own criteria.

• traditional, academic dissertation

• a dissertation written about issues dealt with during the internship (similar to a business report)

• if the internship was a group one, then a group report and an individual, reflective report
