Meeting Thursdays 12.30 for 12.50pm at North Leagues Club, Abbot St Cammeray. ISSUE NO 3909 Thursday 13th April 2017
From our President….Jeremy Brennan
Posture and its links to health
Over the years, I’ve researched the Alexan-der Technique, the Gokhale Method, the Feldenkrais Method, yoga, palates, Tai Chi and swimming among other practises to help overcome the injuries that I have im-posed upon myself through years of compet-itive AFL, long distance running and a num-
ber of other sports.
This week at Rotary we are very lucky to have someone that can cut
through all the hype and let us know what work and what doesn’t when
it comes to posture and its relations to our health. Dr Adrienne Leahy
will join us on Thursday to share her knowledge and experience. I hope
you can join us.
See you on
Thursday.
President
Jeremy

Alaster Long spoke to us last week on his charity Tour de Cure. Many would know
Alaster as the son of long time member and Past President Gary Long, but few would know that both of Alaster’s parents died of cancer, his mother when he was 12 and
Gary sadly last year.
The Tour de Cure, a cycling challenge, this year starting at Mount Hotham in Victo-ria and finishing in Hobart, wends its way through the back roads, stopping at local villages and towns, spreading the word on the need for more research into the cancer
scourge. Each year the tour takes a different route and this year there were 88 start-ers (87 finishers) and $1.865m were raised. Each rider contributes $12,000 and each
volunteer in the support team pays $6,000 for the privilege, earning funds in their own way. Up to date 4500 riders have taken part in the event and about $30m has been raised. Amongst the participants have been Eric Bana, the actor and Jens
Voigt, a well known Tour de France competitor. The local tour takes huge organisa-tion, with support trucks sup-
plying food, clothing, medical support and mechanical assis-
tance along the way.
Alaster asked whether the
Club would be able to support next years Tour, to which Act-
ing President Dennis Booth
replied encouragingly.
Another excellent example of
the way that the local popula-tion can be made aware of, and to assist in helping oth-
ers. Well done Alaster.

Humour by Geoff Prichard
A blonde was shopping at Target & came across a shiny silver thermos.
She was quite fascinated by it, so she picked it up & took it to the clerk to ask what it was.
The clerk said, 'That's a thermos.....it keeps hot things hot, and cold things cold.'
'Wow, said the blonde, 'that's amazing.....I'm going to
buy it!' So she bought the thermos & took it to work the next
day.
Her boss saw it on her desk. 'What's that,' he asked?
'Why, that's a thermos.... It keeps hot things hot &
cold things
cold,' she replied..
Her boss inquired, 'What do you have in it?'
The blonde replied......
'Two paddle pops & some coffee.' ***************
