Join a graduate program with a deep tradition of a teacher-scholar model where research is used as a teaching/learning tool. We aspire to bring integrity, insight and objectivity to everything we do.

Research- and curriculum-based programs are available for traditional students as well as working professionals. Many of our graduates hold professional positions in industry, and others earned admission to highly regarded doctoral programs and medical schools throughout the U.S.

In addition to excelling as teachers, members of our faculty are recognized leaders in their fields. During the most recent academic year, they published more than 60 peer-reviewed articles, several in top science journals, including Nature and the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science. Additionally, in the most recent academic year, our faculty received more than $4 million in grant money to fund their research and that of their students.

Doctoral Programs Doctoral students have access to state-of-the-art instrumentation and equipment and are advised and mentored by top scientists. Our doctoral students benefit from an integrated experience that includes teaching, coursework and rotating through two research laboratories during the first year. Research rotations provide a variety of experiences and knowledge of different research concentrations. After this integrative approach during this first year, students select, with assistance of faculty mentors, the laboratories where they will remain for the duration of the program.

The team approach and collaboration among research groups in different labs promotes free exchange of ideas as well as invaluable experiences and learning opportunities. We have high placement rates for post-doctoral fellowships, academic positions, and positions in government and industry.

The Graduate School of Liberal Arts offers 20 graduate degree programs. Our master’s and certificate programs impart career skills and enhance professional opportunities, and our doctoral programs were created especially for students who plan on careers in research and academia.

Since our founding in 1878, our academic offerings have expanded greatly, and we continue to innovate and improve, so that our graduate students obtain an education that will set them apart in their fields. What has not changed, however, is our commitment to academic excellence, nor have we altered the expectations we set for our faculty, a group of renowned scholars who pride themselves on also being exemplary teachers, always accessible and open to students’ questions and concerns.

Because of the academic and professional affiliations of our faculty, we have a well-earned reputation for connecting our graduates with vital networking contacts leading to internships and career opportunities in their chosen fields of study. At Duquesne, we expect teachers to be approachable, willing to invest time in students, academically and personally, and able to connect with each of them in a deeper way.

Regardless of your field, you will be learning in a community of scholars who are widely respected for their research and publications. In addition to being authors, many on our faculty are editors of highly regarded journals and books, as well as officers in professional organizations and recipients of national and regional awards for teaching, scholarship, service and ethics.

Our graduate students often report that their best experiences at Duquesne are due to our faculty, not only for their expertise but also the high level of engagement they exhibit in the classroom and for the help they offer students outside of it.

School of LawThe future of legal education is here at Duquesne University School of Law. Backed by more than 100 years of training lawyers for success, we’ve expanded our curriculum to prepare students to be practice-ready at graduation. Duquesne Law offers new skills training and subject-area concentrations, plus expanded bar prep and clinical placements, to name just a few opportunities. And Duquesne Law is a leader in making law school affordable. National Jurist in 2014 named Duquesne Law one of only six private institutions nationwide ranked as a “Best Value” law school. Among academic and financial variables, the magazine considered tuition, student debt accumulation, employment success, bar passage rate and cost of living. Here are a few more Duquesne Law distinctions to consider:

• Our Legal Writing Program is ranked No. 12 in the nation by U.S. News & World Report’s Best Law Schools 2015.

• We’ve doubled hands-on experiences through our clinical, fellowship, pro bono and externship programs. The new Tribone Center for Clinical Legal Education is home to it all, including our Veterans Clinic—the first criminal law clinic in the country.

• As legal markets evolve, our Career Services Office offers new programs, such as Lawyers on Location, targeted solo and small firm practice seminars, and dozens of others in partnership with alumni.

• Class sizes are small here, and faculty and administrators are accessible in and out of the classroom.

• Optional concentrations allow students to leverage their law degrees and pursue a focused curriculum that corresponds to their areas of interest in the law.

• Our award-winning trial and appellate moot court teams provide valuable experience and the chance to participate in regional and national competitions across the country.

• Three U.S. Supreme Court justices, the U.S. Attorney General and numerous other distinguished legal scholars have come to campus for student events.

Through a multidisciplinary approach to interactive teaching and research, students of the graduate school are exceptionally well prepared for rewarding careers in which they will have a measurable impact on the lives of others.

Our laboratories are newly renovated and equipped with state-of–the-art analytical instrumentation, and our graduate pharmacy students enjoy a comprehensive mentorship program with their research advisers. Students learn and work with faculty members who are recognized nationally and internationally for the quality of research that they conduct at Duquesne. For example, Dr. Aleem Gangjee, a professor of medicinal chemistry, holds four concurrent RO1 NIH grants to support his research in drug discovery.

Each of our graduate programs is designed with a curriculum that is competency based, and we have a formal assessment program to determine learning outcomes and closely monitor the progression of our students.

Our graduates have gained positions in the pharmaceutical industry, in government with regulatory authorities and in academic positions, or have continued on to post-doctoral training.

Other Financial Options to ConsiderDuquesne Monthly Payment PlanThe University offers five- and 12-month payment plans through Nelnet, a third-party vendor. The plans are administered through the Duquesne Student Accounts Office, but monthly payments are sent to Nelnet. To enroll, visit duq.edu/student-accounts.

• The annual enrollment fee is $125 for a 12-month plan and $75 for a one-semester plan.

Invest in yourself.

Next to the purchase of a home, a college education is often the largest financial commitment we make. Just as a home’s value increases over time, the value of a Duquesne graduate education also increases over time. It is important to remember that, although the cost of a graduate education involves a significant financial commitment, you can better understand and appreciate its value when your view it as a long-term investment.

Tuition Tuition varies by program of study. Refer to duq.edu/grad-tuition for up-to-date, program-specific tuition information.
