Potto Christmas Tree

It is the festive season once again, and Potto has fully embraced the spirit of Christmas, there has been a fantastic Christmas Tree in-stalled at the church.

A big Thank You goes out to Ann Preston for the donating the Christmas Tree to the village. I am sure that you will agree the tree sets the festive mood of the village at this time of year. The tree looks good during the day time, but in the dark with the lights twinkling is when it really comes to life. We would like to thank Amy for organ-ising the tree once again.

The role of a Parish Councillor is to represent the views of all residents within your parish. Working to bring about improvements through local projects, lobbying other service pro-viders and working in partnership with other parishes and agencies.

The Parish Council meets on the evening of the 3rd Wednesday of each month. This position is open to anyone over the age of 18 .If you are interested in learning more, contact the Clerk via email at ; [email protected]

Bridleway To Swainby

Due in part to the extremely wet weather conditions that we are experiencing as well as the normal ravages of time the supporting wall un-der the footbridge over Potto beck at the junction of the lower end of the bridleway (Cooper lane) and Swainby Ellers (Goldhill loop road) has collapsed. This means that the bridleway to Swainby is currently closed with the ex-ception of the ford next to the bridge should conditions al-low. The bridge has been inspected by NYCC engi-neers and it is planned to reinstate the bridge supports with concrete buttresses as soon as the weather permits.

The footbridge has been closed for public safety by North Yorkshire County Council . Alternative routes are via the road or the footpath along the old railway line as shown on the map on the facing page. Work is expected to start on the repairs on the 15th Feb-ruary and last for up to three weeks. For more information please contact NYCC on; 01609 780780

Community Wheelchair

2015 was the Centenary year for the Women's Insti-tute in the UK. It was in 1915 that the first Women's Insti-tute meeting was held in Llanfairpwll on Angelsey to revitalise local communities and encourage women to become more involved in producing food during the First World War.

Today the Women's Institute is the worlds largest women's organisation and currently has over 212,000 members and operate from over 6,300 institutes worldwide.

To celebrate 100 years since that first meeting a number of events and projects were held throughout 2015 and our local Swainby & Potto Women's Institute set about raising funds to sponsor pro-jects in the local community.

The ladies of the WI present-ed Potto with a lightweight wheelchair for use within the community, and it will be stored in the Village Hall. The wheel chair was presented to the Parish Council by Sue Lawton and Gillian Bowman of Swainby and Potto WI. Our thanks to the WI for this excellent community asset.

What This Means For You

A major shake up of the recycling services across Hambleton will take place in the New Year. A third wheelie bin will be deliv-ered to every household allowing residents to recy-cle more waste materials than previously possible. The new black wheelie bins with blue lids will be deliv-ered to homes in February ready for the new service that will commence on the 29th February . They will be collected from your normal roadside collection point every fortnight together with the contents of either the black or green wheelie bin.

You will retain your existing blue recycling box for use in recycling glass items.

This means that each house hold in the Parish will have three wheelie bins plus the blue box .

This new recycling service will allow HDC to reach its target of recycling and com-posting more than 53% of its waste by the year 2020.

The full waste strategy is available on-line at Ham-bleton.gov.uk
