Background:In the coming years, there will be immense burden on India’s food production system. It is a herculean task to provide food security to an ever growing population without impacting the environment. Green revolution in the past was a successful attempt to curb hunger and provide food security to all.
But what followed the green revolution is an overuse and abuse of chemical fertilizers without any check, thereby creating a very negative impact on soil health and agri-ecosystem. Imbalanced nitrogen fertilizer application leads to accelerated acidification of soil, multi-nutrient deficiency due to preferential application of single nutrient chemical fertilizers and a decline in soil organic matter. It also results in water pollution.
In order to combat all challenges, efficient in put management in agriculture is the need of the hour. Besides, there is an urgent need of reforms in fertilizer sector to curb the imbalanced use of chemical fertilizers and encourage industries to bring in innovations and new technologies to meet future challenges.
Thus, SMART AGRIPOST in association with VAMNICOM and other government and private organizations has taken an initiative to organise ‘Smart Fertilizer Conclave’ and create a platform to connect all stakeholders across the country to discuss the challenges and find solutions.
Main objective: The main objective of the conference and exhibition is to deliberate on balanced and sustainable use of fertilizers and the need for policy reforms to meet future challenges.
Expected Outputs: The deliberations at the national conference will create awareness about balanced use of fertilizers, bridge the gap between policy makers and industries and encourage innovations and new technologies in fertilizer sector.
