REGAL

EXTERIORThe bank of windows that gives this model its name extend across the3060, approximately midway between the helm and bow pulpit. Anaerodynamic, swept-back black accent, forward-facing windows andsleek windows port and starboard all contribute to the 3060's stylishprofile. They also provide plenty of daylight for the main salon and gal-ley, which is something express cruisers often need. Plus, your eyesdon’t need to adjust to cavern darkness when you go below.

At the bow, the anchor roller, chain guard plate and scuff plate arestainless steel. The space to handle the anchor is recessed and the inte-grated rode locker has deck access. There's also a sunpad that fits neat-ly ahead of the forward windows, while a high, sturdy, safety railextends to the radar arch. Access to the foredeck is via a windscreenand built-in steps.

COCKPITThe windscreen at the helm extends all the way to the base of theswept back radar arch. When the bimini is opened and tucked neatlyin place against the arch, the 3060 looks ready to go – fast. Driver'swill appreciate the single bucket seat featuring a semi bolster while toport, is a generous C-shaped seat that wraps around the cockpit table, providing comfort for guests and company for the driver. The driver'sseat also swivels to face the table and a filler cushion converts theentire seat to sleeping accommodations for extra guests. On the portside of the dash is a large chart table.

3060 Window Express

From dead stop, with a half-a-tank of fuel andtwo people on board, the 3060 popped out ofthe hole in less than five seconds and hit a topspeed of 49 mph at 4,800 rpm. Below (l-r) Thehelm is fully-equipped and designed to meetevery driver's needs. The mid-cabin is largeand provides optimum comfort for guests orchildren. The windows contribute to the3060's profile, and also provide ample light inthe salon.

t the turn of its 37th year of producing a long line of sportboats, sport cruisers and yachts ranging from 19 to 44 feet, Orlando, Florida-based, Regal Boats offers the 2007 3060 Window

Express, a sporty, comfortable and fast express that's more than readyto offer relaxing moments on the water. While "window express" maybe a unique name to label a model, the term couldn't be further fromthe truth. The size and number of windows not only provide amplelight to the cabin, but they create a slick, and sporty profile that makesher stand out on the water. Lets take a closer look.

lined hanging locker and more storagespace.

PERFORMANCEOur test boat was powered by twin

Volvo Penta 5.0 L GXi engines. Settlinginto the helm seat, the backlit, fog-freeFaria gauges provided all the informationI needed, and I liked the placement of therocker switches. Rather than beingacross the lower part of the dash, theywere placed on the starboard side forgreater visibility and access.

The 3060 has excellent visibility allaround. When the Volvos fired up, shejust purred. This is a well-behaved boataround the dock and easy to handle. Itholds a straight line backwards or for-wards and when we got out of theNarrows, she just let loose on a dime.

From dead stop, with a half-a-tank offuel, empty holding and water tanks, and

two people on board, the 3060 poppedup out of the water in less than five sec-onds. At wide open throttle, she hit 49mph at 4,800 rpm. When the engines areworked in, this will definitely be a 50-mph boat. Company specs say she’llcruise at 3,000 rpm at 21 to 24 mph. Buton the relatively calm water we discov-ered she held on plane all the way downto 15 mph. Its firm in sharp turns andtakes her own wake comfortably.

The Regal FasTrac hull is fast andfuel efficient. Company specs also revealit will sip fuel cruising at a rate ofapproximately 15 gph. The patented hulldesign has a full beam step amidships, creating a cushion of air for the hull toride on, reducing the wetted surface areaand cutting drag. q

Further aft is a sink with storagebelow. The model we saw at Crate’sLake Country Boats at the AtherleyNarrows in Ontario had a bar fridgeunder the sink. The bench seat at thetransom easily lifts up and out of theway when it’s not in use. To starboardis a transom door, providing easy accessto the integrated swim platform. To portis another thoughtful feature. There arebuilt-in steps making it easy to get overthe transom and into the aft sectionwhen you’re tied up on the port side.

CABINStepping below, the natural provided byall the windows is the first thing younotice. It makes the salon seem muchlarger than you might expect in a 30-foot express. When you look moreclosely, you realize the size is more thanjust a trick with light and mirrors.

There's more room down here. Whileit's common to see a V-berth forward,Regal has placed a large dinette, whichextends from the bow, all the way backto the head on the starboard side and tothe galley to port. At the flip of a switchthe table drops down to bench level anda filler cushion converts it to a queen-size bed.

The galley has many amenitiesincluding cherry wood laminate cabinets,a Corian countertop, microwave, refrig-erator, deep stainless steel sink, twoburner stove and lots of storage. Thehead has a full-length mirror, along witha stand up shower stall with curtain andsump pump. The toilet is vacu-flushwith a 28-gallon holding tank.

The mid-cabin is large and comfort-able enough to be a master stateroom. Ithas an innerspring mattress, a privatestand-up dressing area, lighted cedar

The salon is spacious and the abundant of natural light is another testament to the benefit of allthe windows. More comfort is found in the cockpit.
