MAGIC GEL RAYTECH has developed an insulating and sealing polymeric gel with fast cross linking at normal room temperature.

The Magic Gel kit contains two bottles of fluid, a small mixing basin and a spoon. Specially designed with Health and Safety in mind and to eliminate detrimental effects on the environment, the fluids combine in equal quantities to provide a non-toxic, re-enterable cable jointing gel - ideal for filling enclosures, boxes and terminal blocks etc. It is most suitable for anti corrosion protection, insulating and sealing applications.The product: • Is non-toxic and safe • Is suitable for installations up to 1kV and 120

In recent years Siemens has released the revolutionary Fusesaver product onto the market for improving reliability of rural overhead medium voltage lines.

The Fusesaver is a compact, cost effective and intelligent protection device and is now delivering substantial reliability improvements and cost savings for utilities in Australia and New Zealand. The next evolutionary step for the Fusesaver was to provide a means to enable remote control through a utilities SCADA network. The new Siemens Remote Control Unit (RCU) has been developed for this purpose.

The RCU is mounted on the same pole as the Fusesavers and communicates with them using a short range radio. The RCU can collect switchgear status and event log information and stores these in its internal database for relay back to the utility control centre via the SCADA system. The RCU must be fitted with the utilities long haul radio/modem to do this. The DNP3 via serial link protocol has been implemented to support this communication.

In addition, the utility can issue commands to the Fusesaver including trip/close control and changing of the protection mode active in the Fusesaver.

The RCU and Fusesaver offer the following benefits to utilities responsible for large rural networks: • Wireless connectivity between RCU and Fusesaver reduces

installation time and cost. • Low power consumption allows for solar power supply even in

high latitude locations • Remote control allows cost effective sectionalisation of remote

network segments. • Remote control of protection modes allows dynamic response

to changing network conditions, e.g. high bushfire risk days. • Receiving operational data remotely provides network

intelligence without the need to send line crews to site

The RCU addresses all the expected needs for a SCADA device including: • A Local / Remote toggle switch • Various power supply options including 115/230VAC mains

and a 12V supply for solar power or other DC sources. • A rechargeable battery for back-up power • AN IP54 rated enclosure to shelter the control electronics and

customers radio or modem. The RCU has been designed from the ground up for long term outdoor use.

• Configurable settings for the RCU, DNP3 and radio or modem interface.

Troubleshooting is simplified with an LED display. Additional functionality is available either using a PC locally to connect with the RCU using short range radio or through the addition of a user panel with controls inside the RCU itself. A number of New Zealand utilities have already launched projects with this new technology.

300 series 38-kV Automatic Circuit Recloser now complemented by independently type-tested 310 series 15- and 27-kV sister products featuring enhanced continuous current rating and RC10 control and communications module

NOJA Power announces the release of its 310 series 15- and 27-kV Automatic Circuit Reclosers (ACR). The ACRs extend the company’s range of electricity distribution grid protection products by complementing the existing 300 series 38-kV ACR. The 310 series replace older products which were rated at 630 A with units capable of up to 800 A continuous current operation. The increase in the continuous current rating to 800A allows utilities to use the ACR in a wider range of electrical network configuration options. The 310 series ACRs also feature a fault make capacity (RMS) of 12.5 kA and an impulse withstand phase-to-earth and phase-to-phase of 110 kV for the 15-kV unit and 150 kV for the 27-kV unit.

While smaller and lighter than the 300 series ACR, the 310 series products benefit from all the key features that have made the 38-kV product popular with utilities around the world. Notable among these are the use of a vacuum interrupt and solid dielectric insulator instead of the environmentally unfriendly oil or sulphur hexafluoride (SF6) gas used in older products. Another key feature of the 310 series is its stainless steel enclosure that forms the only solid dielectric unit with controlled arc venting on the market.

In addition, the 310 series benefits from NOJA Power’s RC10 control and communications cubicle and its comprehensive feature set. The RC10 is a SCADA-ready controller that provides a directional overcurrent, earth fault and sensitive earth fault relay, auto reclosing relay, instantaneous metering, event log, demand logger and remote terminal unit (RTU) for remote control in a single package. The RC10 cubicle’s power quality features provide an in-depth analysis of the changing state of the electrical network. A large backlit LCD display and keypad enable fast navigation and local control while ensuring information is presented clearly without recourse to scrolling or reference to manuals.
